If there's anyone on this board who's making Pesach, I would love to "talk" with you on this thread!
Here's what I've done so far:
--one of the kids' bedrooms is almost done, will hopefully be done by tonight --swept the upstairs bathroom, picked up all the clothes/empty shampoo bottles/etc. from the floor. hopefully will clean it tonight --placed my meat order for Yom Tov --had a total freaking-out panic attack, but better now :-)
The lady I spoke with for advice told me to turn over the kitchen on the 23rd, so I'm going to do that, iy"H. I've never ever turned over so early...usually I pull an all-nighter the night of bedikas chometz. This year I REALLY want it to be different.

well, probably should be, but, um -- gosh overwhelmed with all the stuff I have to do that isn't even Passover related. we are supposed to be freed from whatever oppresses us. let us, you and me, both keep it in mind.

I'm someone who's, despite an obsession with XMas ornaments, seriously considered converting to Judaism, and who still might at some point. (I do have Jewish ancestors but it's not an unbroken maternal lineage.) Anyway, this is one time of year when I've been relieved that I'm not under the pressure of Pesach cleaning. There's no way I could say I've gotten all the chametz out of my home. But, if I can keep up my cleaning, by next year then I think I could accomplish this. Anyway, I hope you don't mind me posting in your thread. Here's an article I read a couple of years ago on Aish.com that reminds us that Pesach cleaning ONLY means getting rid of chametz. It does not, necessarily, require getting rid of dust, although that would be wonderful. www.aish.com/f/hotm/48924067.html

Yep, Butterfly, as the saying goes: "Dust is not chometz, and your husband is not a korban Pesach!" Don't let my Pesach prep scare you...Pesach is the most amazingly beautiful holiday. There is seriously nothing so beautiful as the table and chairs covered in white, the candles glowing, the children hopping with excitement...and the words of the Haggadah, the most precious lovesong, the story of H-shem lifting us out of the lowest level of impurity to be his chosen people, to travel into the desert and receive the Torah.... All the work beforehand is SO worth it, such a privilege to do. I am just so bad at organization and cleaning that it feels overwhelming to me...but I'm trying really hard to do better this year. BTW you don't have to get all the chometz out of your house...you can always "sell" areas of your house to a non-Jew for the duration of the holiday, and thus not have to check them. Hope: amen!!

By marriage I acquired Jewish family and absolutely loved the celebrations we were lucky to join in on. Pesach was always the big one, and now that I'm divorced I miss it terribly. I loved this line from the article Butterfly linked "You don't gain spiritual reward for staying up until midnight sweeping the corners of your ceiling. Instead, focus your efforts on the areas you know contain chametz, like the toy box, china closet, car seats and kitchen drawers." For those wondering: the chometz being referred to is described here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chametz

BTW you don't have to get all the chometz out of your house...you can always "sell" areas of your house to a non-Jew for the duration of the holiday, and thus not have to check them. As a genuine non-Jew, I hereby offer to "buy" any non-Chometz-free house areas for the duration of the holiday, with the assurance that I will of course sell them back to you at your originally-named price afterwards (what do I need with half your bathroom? ), and the caveat that whatever currency is used in the transaction must be virtual (because that's the only kind of currency I have in any quantity - hopefully that doesn't quash the deal). - Evelyn, who once had to ask what Matzo Balls were made of (and then, of course, had to ask: "Okay, so what's Matzo made of?" )

no, but I love Passover even though I'm not Jewish because my name is Esther. EDITING TO SAY that is has been pointed out to me that I have mixed up Passover with Purim. Leaving my initial comment up for all to scorn,

As another genuine non-jew, I, too offer to purchase any non-Chometz free areas of your house for the duration of the holiday, and I will sell them back at the original purchase price.

Evelyn, puppybox and kadymae! I believe your rabbi takes care of selling the chametz "infected" items and areas in your home, along with the rest of his congregation's items. A few years back, I bought a ticket and attended a second night Seder at a local reform synagogue. I was alone and felt conspicuous and uncomfortable but I also enjoyed the experience and felt enriched by it. I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to experience this in a private home. One day I hope to be lucky enough to also experience Shabbos in a private home. On a funny note, I didn't realize the Haggadah I was handed as I entered the Seder was only a loaner and that I would give it back at the end of the night. So, in my nervousness, I constantly played with it and was then very embarrassed to turn in a rolled and wrinkled booklet.

Wanna-be-Jew will also rent your chometz-ful space leaving you one less room to worry about for Pesach. Virtual currency exchange will be figured in lolcat and loldog pics starting with this one, kosher kitty watching to see where you hide afikomen!
