...episode. She was a little hesitant at first, but then she said she was just going to jump in head first and say it. She told me that she'd been watching the show and recognized Alex and me. She said was praying for me, and that she was in exactly the same situation a few years ago. She just wanted to tell me that, and that she was there for me whenever I needed to talk.
The only other people who've said anything like that to me are you guys. A lot of 3D friends saw it, but no one's said anything like that.
Wow.

That is good - someone up close who knows what you are going through and she was positive about it!

There you go. Someone to talk to face-to-face while you are alone & family gone to Disney World.

There you go. Someone to talk to face-to-face while you are alone & family gone to Disney World. Hey! You're right! She's the lady who cuts the family's hair and I'll see her next week. I'll have to see if we can spend some time together that week. I was thinking that maybe there was some volunteer stuff I might get involved in that week too. Maybe at one of the theatres, or even at the church.

That was really cool.
I think getting together when the family is gone is a great idea. How nice to have someone close by who understands. I wish I did...

Okay MiSC, I'm late to the party--what show were you on and when??? Diane "Hoarders" on A&E. This was the first season, back when they weren't going for sensationalism. Our epside was shot in April of '09, and aired in September. We were "Missy & Alex" -- my little boy and I -- and the other half of our episode was "Paul", who had a yard full of scrap metal. I know there are a gazillion threads here about it. Just search "Missy" and you're likely to find a lot of them.

Thanks, I'll look back and read, and I'll watch for the show. I just recently watched a couple episodes of one of those shows (don't remember which one) for the first time, they weren't as bad as I thought they'd be, but I thought they were misleading.
Pretty brave of you, I must say!

I am glad something positive came from filming your squalor with A&E.
I am filming with TLC now and I am quite scared how I will look to people after they edit what we have filmed.

I think TLC's show has approached the subject with a great deal more respect. There's an attempt to explain and educate, while A&E's version has sunk to the depths of sensationalism. I'm just happy we were in the first season and not the second. I won't watch "Hoarders" anymore.

That's very cool! Maybe you and she could try and start a local support group or co-op to help folks out? A cleaning co-op would be such a great idea too, because it's always so much easier to clean up somebody elses mess than your own. Even if it's just something like a support group, it would be nice to be able to sit around with other people who have the same concerns that you do. I have seen support groups for lots of things, but never for this, and it would be a great idea.

I have seen support groups for lots of things, but never for this, and it would be a great idea. I had a fleeting thought of this years ago, but I don't want to spearhead anything like that. I just get my support here, and from my tiny little 3D group here in my house.
