Thank you for all the replies; most interesting to read all the varying points of view.
I suppose the heat/stuff question is subject to interpretation, and I still firmly believe that the more stuff one has in a finite space, the more heat one gets. Then again, I'm carrying around a lot of "stuff" (weight) with me everywhere I go, so I'm always over-heated. And E has always had a problem with being too cold. I only ever noticed the heat issue when I've been in shared accommodation. When I had my own apartment, there was no problem.
And I find it comforting to see that most people here also think collecting (on its own) is not a problem, but one needs to keep an eye on the situation, to make sure it doesn't go out of control.

Hi Glimmercat! Rolling Stones fan, huh? Me too! Love your name, long live the Glimmer Twins! Re: collecting/hoarding. Other folks have already made some excellent points. Basically the way I see it, is be the boss of your stuff, don't let it be the boss of you. Keep it organized and in its place, and don't let it take over your floor, your dining table, your couch, your bed, or your life! Sounds like you already have this attitude, so you will be fine. It's when you accumulate too much stuff, let it get out of hand, and let the piles creep up on you, that the trouble begins (I've been there on a grand scale, and don't want to go through that again!) Hi slothzilla!! Yes indeed, the Stones rule!! Love your name, too! Thanks for the "vote of confidence". I have always had a lot of stuff, but there were always some things that were "more important" than others and I've always managed to keep the two camps separate. The unimportant stuff gradually gets culled and discarded; the important things take their rightful place of honour. When I get my Stones Shrine set up, I'll take a few shots and post them in By-ways. meow
