I don't have a cell phone. I did get one of those little prepay ones, and used it some but the minutes ran out and I didn't get more. I don't like them. They are too small! The one I have is only about 4 inches long and flips open, but it's still not big enough. It's somewhere in the house under all that junk. All my kids have them though. The good thing about that is that I can text them from the computer on their phones. However, I don't have my laptop anymore (I was renting it and gave it back) so I can only come over and use my Mom's old desktop. That's better than nothing though.
We do have a TV because my husband is a TV addict. He makes his plans around TV. It's always on and he's always watching something. Our satellite is off now that we haven't been home, so when we were staying there, he dug out all these old tapes and would watch movies. He will watch anything at all, even cartoons or documentaries about how they make paper, just to have something to watch. My daughters boyfriend has one of those huge HD tv's that he brings with him. It's set up at our house along with his computer and his laptop and his playstation and his Wii and everything is run through the tv so it all shows up on that big tv screen. (He has basically lived with us for the past year or two, they sometimes spend the night at his house, but usually they are at our house. About once a week he goes to his house alone, but that's pretty rare. He is her first bf and they started dating when she was 13 - he was a friend of my oldest son's so they had known each other for years - and they are perfect together. Very stable relationship, never fight, both of them are very sweet, and polite and just good. She's 16 - 17 in September - and he's 20 - 21 in January - and in college, she is a Junior this year in HS. We are very happy to have him in our family, and he seems to have just moved in because all his electronics are there)
Sorry for going off on a side note, but I do that a lot.

Today, Monday, I am sitting and working on my table and looking at the bookcases in the alcove in front of me. They are tidy and clean and I feel good about it. I've also looked up the reference in Job over what people bring into the world and take out. It all makes sense today and occasionally I worry that I have let go of something which is really important and vital.

My biggest problem is computer books. They are in baskets all over my living room, in my bedroom, and stacked 1-on-another 4 feet high in a 2nd room (ready to fall over in the next earthquake.)
Software engineering was/is my profession, but I've not been working for 5 years. Some of the books are newer than 5 years (including for classes I've taken recently) but many are older. But they were all so EXPENSIVE and things don't change THAAAT much. I'm might still read them to help get a new job! Yeah, right. As if I use them so much when there is the internet.
I think I should get rid of MANY of them. This forum and this thread have provided real motivation.

Messylife, Have you thought about running them up to your local library to donate them? That would only take a minute, and that way they would be there if you ever need to read one. They would be out of your house, but in a place that you could still access them.

But they were all so EXPENSIVE and things don't change THAAAT much. I'm might still read them to help get a new job! Yeah, right. As if I use them so much when there is the internet. Actually, they DO change that much, especially in the computer field. Right now, I'm working on my old Windows Millennium (back-up) computer as the power cord fried on my Win XP computer and I'm waiting for a new one in the mail. It is amazing how much stuff is obsolete in just a few years. Many sites I visit, I don't have half the programs to view everything properly. So many sites will NOT work with anything less than Win XP and the corresponding add-ons for Win XP or higher. Win XP seems to be the bare, bottom line. It doesn't sound like you are going back to that type of job any time soon. So the books will be 6+ years out of date. I've been putting off getting a Windows 7 laptop, but, after this revisit in time with this old clunker, I'm thinking of stepping up that decision. My sister has a college degree in psychology but never actually became any type of therapist, or even interned as one. She just has the degree. She likes to think she is superior to everyone, by analyzing them all the time. (I come from one majorly F'ed up biological family.) BUT, her info is 30 years old. Freud has been debunked since then, and there have been major advancements in psychology, psychotherapy, mind-body therapies, etc., that she just does not know about. For all she learned back then, she really does not truly understand human behavior. I know more modern info, techniques and processes, and how the mind works than her 30 year old info. It may have been advanced and cutting edge, during it's time, but time has moved forward and it's hopelessly outdated. Clinging to an inaccurately past is worthless.

Messylife--here's an idea on the computer books--go to Amazon or another major book selling website and put in the ISBN of the books you have--if they are truly obsolete, they will be selling for a couple of dollars (or less!). This will tell you that you can recycle them or throw them away. If used copies are still selling for a lot, you know they're still somewhat current.
