Have you vacuumed your refrigerator coils lately? Water began collecting in the bottom of my fridge and leaking out onto my wood floor. Thought I might try vacuuming the coils to see if that solved the problem. I was sick thinking I might have to buy a new refrigerator. Now, I have been "keeping house" since I married at 17 and I don't remember EVER doing it on any fridge. My current fridge will be 21 years old in November and my previous one (lovely brown) we bought in 1962 and when we moved here in 1989, I tried to sell it for $150 as it still worked great. I ran out of time and donated it to a Vet organization, and immediately after, people started calling me, crying to buy that fridge. I wanted a new, almond fridge, and I knew if I moved the brown one I would have it the rest of my life. So, yesterday, I climbed over behind my fridge and took off the back cover, and GOOD GRIEF, I couldn't believe my eyes. I also laid face down on the floor in front so I could see the coils under there. I couldn't even see any coils, just heaps of dirty lint. I don't know how the appliance even worked. I got enough dirt and lint out of there to coat a couple of grizzly bears and one small puppy. It is still too early to tell for sure, but it looks like the leak has stopped, and, hopefully, now the water is evaporating like it is supposed to. There was still water in the bottom of fridge this morning, but I took out the wet towel and put in a dry towel and it doesn't seem to be getting wet. I will add this as a periodic chore on my list. Dear Mandy,
Yes, I know I should.
No, I really don't.
I swipe behind there with a brush once in so often.
Everything I can see seems so much more important, and it shouldn't be that way.

Asked Hubby when he last did this, since this is one of the things he does. He says sometime since we painted behind the fridge. So that means at least one other time in the last 3 years. Not reallysure when that was, but at least I know he does it periodically. He does it because it requires pulling the fridge out from the wall.

Wait, there's a COVER on the back of your fridge that hides coils? If there are indeed any coils behind there, I too think they must be "self vacuuming" as blossom said. I wonder if cleanies know they should be doing this kind of thing, cuz I've never heard of it!

my favorite all time cleanie hint was use a dentists mirror to thoroughly clean under the rim of the toilet. . at sometimes you know they go too far one way as we go the other way.

yes-- I do about every 6 months as I am cheap and it cuts down the cost to run fridge-- but it is easy for me to do as coils are on bottom so no moving--- I do however have to get way down on floor and at my age the getting up sucks-- our appliance man showed me how when he delivered fridge as the newer ones do not have an open back - hugs Meme who is younger than she feels somedays -
