I love your challenge. I was wondering if someone would start this kind of thread.
Thank you.

Hi, puzzleqt.
Yesterday I sorted through my revolving cupboard of plastics & filled a large brown shopping bag for donation. Some others went into recycling. That was easily 40 items or more.
Today I tested & tossed out a half dozen batteries that weren't working (bagged in plastic baggy before tossing). I also tossed a bathroom scale that no longer works, after testing it by following directions & replacing the battery several times. Lo & behold, Hubby came home and removed it from the trash and is trying to get it to work again. I know better than to put certain things in the trash or donation where he can see them. I should have bagged it first & then put it in the outside bin before he got home from work. I wasted over half an hour on it trying to get it work. I wonder how long he's planning on spending on trying to get it to work again. tsk, tsk, tsk

, Eagle, your husband sounds like my daughter! Well, when Puzzleqt said 2011 items, that number immediately overwhelmed me. But six items a day - that's do-able. I'd like to take that challenge. Has anyone read 100 Things? Apparently, people try to minimize down to where they only own 100 things. WOW! I'm still trying to wrap my head around that! I probably have 100 things in my bathroom cabinet!

Hi Puzzleqt! Thanks for starting this thread. I tossed out mostly papers in last year's 2010 challenge. I have so many, so I may just do that, again. Wow! When I read only 6 items a day, that made it seem so much easier. Yes, I may, once again, count every dang piece of paper. Eagle -- Wow! You and your DH sound quite a lot like my DH and me. Thanks, again. Puzzleqt!

Wow just 6 items a day. I have been pushing 100s out the door every couple of days for the past few months. I need to get a ticker and count me in.

I will have way more than 1000 items to discard. 6 items per day will be too easy 6 trashbags per day way too hard.
I will try to come up with some kind of system for myself here... a days junk mail = 1 item hmm.. I have some thinking to do.
but maybe I should just go with easy since I'm new to this.
thoughts?

w8ing-no-more: I'd count EACH piece of junk mail! That makes 6 pieces be your minimum. You always can throw out as many more items as you wish, but if you keep the minimum at 6, you will have a much greater chance of success.
Where I get into trouble is when I have to skip a day, for one reason or another; that means that I would "need" to throw out 12 items the next time. My "inner brat" would begin to whine, ". . . but, but, twelve is too HARD!!!"
I have a much, much smaller goal. I strive to throw away/donate/turn into cleaning rags only 5 items per week. (I haven't been counting pieces of paper; that comes under the "getting rid of junk mail" heading for me. I've mostly been dealing with clothing, bric-a-brac, etc.)
So, figure out what will work best for you. Even ONE item per WEEK is better than nothing!

He couldn't get it to work. For all I know, he still plans to work on it. As far as I'm concerned 2 hours, he wasted, plus my 15 minutes is far too much. Two more empty boxes put out into the recycle bin. I'll do a running total for myself: Eagle's Sub Total (Out To Date): 49 ETA: The scale went into a bag of kitchen garbage & into outside bin on 1/3/11

Wow, people are making such wonderful progress. I finally have my first item. Parts to the packaging of a remote control car. It was these plastic pieces that held the car into the box. Totally useless, could easily sat around for years. Then wondering if it was for anything or important for this or that doohickey. In the TRASH whoot! Thanks for sharing the scale story. Sometimes a thing costs more in time and energy to repair (and still may not work) than the item is worth. And I just cant see LOVING a bathroom scale that much. My DH will give the bread machine one more stab before we release it into the wild. I'm hoping for sometime this week, because I'd like it out of our bedroom. 1 only 2010 left to go puzzleqt
