Back (from SS). What drove me here is flooding in nicely carpeted basement (water problem most recently five years ago, year 2003). Empathize with me. Glad to be back. The professional company is at the house taking up carpet to throw away, muddy "water" being removed. Opportunity for totally new plan but what disruption in the meantime. BoBraxton

Oh BO.... I can totally empathize. Only difference is that I couldn't afford the disaster cleanup crew and I ended up doing it myself. It was a VERY emotionally challenging experience. Not to mention the frustration of dealing with the physical aspect of sodden materials and mold.
This disaster proved pivotal in my desqualoring/ decluttering. I had been at a plateau and was not improving or making any noticeable changes. The flood forced me to get out of my malaise and move forward. What was once a dungeon of a basement, with a huge 20X12 open "storage" area (euphemistic for "mountains and piles of clutter"), is now a livable space.
I can honestly say that the basement looks better than it's ever looked before, and I've reduced my clutter to a closed-off space that is approximately 6X12. The rest is a newly created reading area, complete with fresh paint, new bookshelves and cozy chairs. Sunny streaming sunlight from three windows... light yellow walls. Not perfect, but perfectly usable, perfectly homey and perfectly right for now.
Good luck making headwaters in your basement!
