my doom room. actually its supposed to be the master bedroom. im embarrassed to say that its never been used as a bedroom. it's floor to ceiling stacked high with a goat trail from the door to the bathroom area (because we use the shower in there). sometimes the goat trail would be narrow sometimes it would be wide but still a goat trail. then recently i managed to clean out a 5' by 5' area so now i have like a staging area for future cleaning!! the bathroom in there is partially cluttered (sink area) but mostly the bathroom is just disgusting and needs a good cleaning. there is mold in there i hate this room and i avoid even thinking about it. close the door and forget it!

My kitchen bothers me the most cosmetically. My laundry room is the downstairs dumping ground, MY bedroom is the upstairs dumping ground for everything.

My bins and more bins and more bins. My boxes, more boxes and more boxes. They are neatly stacked but full of decisions. Still dancing around other areas in order to "prepare" to go through the bins. everyone PC

Pretty much like phoenixcat: lots of boxes and shelves of stuff in our doom room: 6 years now since DD moved out we have been misusing that room by putting stuff in there we cannot decide upon, or stuff that has been promised to others but they haven't time or whatever to get it yet. Stuff we thought I'd sell ( but something happened exactly on the day I was supposed to) and didn't. Stuff to donate, but haven't yet, etc etc...you all know how it is... I have a big path down the middle of room now, and can get to everything now. That was an improvement, and it was what brought me back here, to keep up momentum. Next up is study/guestroom. Now looks "ok" on the surface, but too many things hardly ever used taking up valuable space. same as above, boxes and boxes of craft materials etc.

Thanks to the many wonderful people here who have shared your struggles!! I have only begun to scratch the surface of my bedroom this weekend . I started near the bed and I just kept pulling things out of there. Wow , I reminded myself of a teenager again!! Someone used the term "Hot spot." I'm going to try to devote some time every day to my room. I'm pretty good in the AM so maybe I'll do about 15 minutes in there each day. Who will join me...

My struggle this weekend has been with my inability to pay attention. ADHD. Last night I forgot to use my timer. I plugged up the kitchen sink, poured a little bleach in, turned on the water, and sat down at the computer. It was not until my bird started screaming, that I saw the stream running from the kitchen, through the breakfast room, laundry room, and out the back door.
THANKFULLY, I had desqualored and cleaned that whole area just last week, AND I was able to find all the parts to my wet vac, so the clean-up was not nearly the ordeal it would have been a week ago. I'm thankful for small favors!
I will join you in the desqualoring of a room. I'm at my best in the AM, also, so I'll do at least one 8-minute segment in the morning, and hopefully two. Or at least some time during the day, I will commit to two 8-minute rounds of decluttering!
GO, DEF!

Thank goodness you had a wet vac! I have a bad habit of putting tea on to brew and forgetting about it.

My struggle RIGHT NOW is with pain. I have arthritis in my knees that is causing me to limp, which in turn is causing my pelvis to twist out of place. I have been going to physical therapy for the last month (3X a week) and it's not helping, I have to finish the therapy that was set up and then see my orthopaedist. I don't know what the next step is but he's told me that I need to lose over 100 lbs before he does knee replacements. It doesn't help that my bedroom is upstairs.
But on the desqualoring itself, I did get a couple of drawers in my dresser and highboy straightened up and mostly got "like with like" instead of having shirts in my shorts drawer, and socks in with my jeans. I only spent about 10 minutes on it and it made a big difference. Now to find a few more 10 minute segments to finish the job.
BTW what do you do with your SHOES?????? (Don't even suggest purging them LOL) I LOVE SHOES. I think I have about 20-30 pairs in a pile in the floor of my closet (and yes I do wear them all) I only have 1 closet so I'm kind of at a loss.
On the tossing... I tossed out more clothes. I thought I had purged all that I didn't like. Either my taste has changed in the last month or I was lying to self. I got rid of about 10 shirts and 3 pairs of jeans that "almost fit well".. one was about an inch too short, two pairs were too big, and one of those had a pocket with a hole.
The shirts, I just didn't like.

My daughter's room. She comes home in 1-2 weeks and I can't even open her door/. I stashed and dashed everything in there and I have not dealt with it.
My bathroom. It is so small and so easy to clean (not cluttered) but I wait til it is filthy disgusting and dirty and smelly before I clean it.
My desk at work. I try to dress professionally and act professionally at work- yet my desk looks the opposite. My supervisor is clueless and useless and I end up doing his work but he is a male and has a clean desk. Sorry= lots of issues at work.
I could go on.....................

I mean one little part of the toilet, or a couple square feet of bathtub. Good luck with it all.

Once I realized that I go into the bathroom so many times per day, why not do a LITTLE cleaning each time I'm in there? what a difference that could make. In no time, it got clean and stayed fairly clean. It was a total new way of doing things, but made such a huge difference in my outlook.

Hurray for small jobs that we can all do easily and quickly that don't give us a hard time. May all of our jobs break down into these little effortless jobs. May we all figure out how to do this.
