I just read through this thread and LOVE it!
I have plenty of monsters and bullies around here that need to be stood up to!

There is another monster I do battle with. It is a very different type of beast than the other beasts mentioned on this thread. His name is the Hoarding Hooligan, and when he sees "bargains" at the store or online, he demands that I not miss this opportunity to feed his ravinous appitite. Feeding him leads to him overtaking my entire house with stuff I might need someday or someone might be able to use. I thought I had him under control, but yesterday my daughter told me that maybe we could find some jeans for her on ebay, since she gained some weight over the past year and none of her jeans fit anymore. I bid on one pair and was outbid, so I bid on a "lot of 4", and thinking I'd be outbid, bid on another "lot of 4", AND a pair of shorts. Suddently I realize I bid on 9 pair of jeans.... this is just INSANE. It doesn't matter that these same jeans sold for $40-45 bucks a pair last year, and I am only paying a fraction of that. This has to stop! NOW!

Update... I just found out I "won" all 9 pair of jeans. Sigh... I actually feel like I lost. I may have lost this battle... but will win the next! Where is that attack cat when I need him! The Hoarding Hooligan must be starved... so that he moves on and leaves me alone. Preparing for Battle!!!

More than one loyalist here has been ambushed by the eBay troll hiding under the keyboard. I once found myself to have placed bids on a dozen porcelain black swans. Fortunately, the Fates of war were with me, and I lost all bids but one - but it was a harrowingly close call. . . and still I did not learn the dangers of engaging the eBay troll alone! Be very careful in dealing with the monsters that lurk in your home. I am finding that rather than standing up to them in an all-out assault, I do better with little sneak attacks - just grabbing a bit here and there (guerilla warfare.) Good luck - and know that should force become necessary - Rambo Kitty has your back!

GASP! Rambo Kitty must have been engaged on other fronts! Well, the up side to it is they are nice jeans. Probably you can sell the extras for a profit. (If they are big enough - which I doubt - but on the off chance they are - I'd buy a couple of pairs. My jeans are all at "barn-cleaning" stage.

Can RamboKitty please be posted at the doors of Thrift Stores to examine my purchases? I don't want to give them up and for now the Hooligan is under control, but I have to fight him. There ARE things that we do need that can be purchased at thrift stores for pennies on the dollar and I truly can't afford to purchase new. But he easily gets out of hand. I sometimes think that I should just avoid the temptation, but the reality is that I do need those stores. I just can't get "extras" because they are such good deals.

Ally, may i suggest the one-in-two-out rule that Eagle uses? Tell your daughter that for every pair she keeps, she has to get rid of two pair of jeans or other items of clothing that don't fit any more.
Next time, go to the thrift or resale shop in town with her, instead. Let her pick the two or three pair she needs, and if you have to, stay in the car while she does! It helps.

Thanks Everyone! Mimi, DD's college has a clothing/item exchange room, and when she packed up at the end of the semester, she donated all of her clothing that didn't fit anymore. You are right, she wouldn't have bid on all of those clothes... Probably just a few. I should have left it up to her to take care of picking them out, bidding on them... I am attempting to instill in her some of the values/lessons I am learning here, and she seems to be "getting it" more quickly than I am.
She does need a pair of sport sandals and instead of paying $50 to $100 for new ones, I am looking at some on ebay. I promise to only bid on one pair at a time. There is one pair that is closing soon, but I like some others better that will be closing tomorrow. I plan to wait until after work tomorrow to bid on the cless expensive of the two of them.
About the jeans, I will encourage her to donate any she doesn't love, to the school's clothing exchange, or to a thrift store.
