i've gotten two warts years ago. one on my finger and a planters wart on my foot. both were irritatingly painful, the foot one hurt with pressure with every step and the finger one was irritatingly at the exact spot i brace a pencil for sketching. meanly placed warts, i already felt upon enough by the universe having one at all. the doctor removed the one on my foot by freezing. when the one on my finger bothered me enough i got dry ice and removed it myself. i know other methods are effective but i just wanted it gone immediately both times. the foot one was actually making me limp and it was preferable to have a tender hole in my foot that would just be able to heal rather than wait. and the finger one was irritating and ugly. burned away in a few minutes and then just a.. well, unsightly divot that needed to heal.
i need to pause before i hit enter on this msg. i guess freezing them is one of the most painful removal methods. i have odd perceptions of pain. to me the irritation and pressure on the warts in both places was for lack of a better word agonising. it was maddening to me. removing them took far less than 5 minutes. it was shockingly burningly painful but very brief and then it was over. for me and my perceptions it was far better to have the brief and intense pain than the maddening discomfort pain. my doctor had wanted to schedule a second visit as a follow, i had to strongly express that it was preferable to continue freezing deeply rather than prolonging the whole thing.
since maggie asked because of her son i just wanted to uhm.. make it clear that it did hurt. :}

I have had plantars warts on my feet. I had them frozen once. NEVER AGAIN!!! Mind you, I didn't find them painful at all, and wouldn't have even known I had them if my husband hadn't told me what the weird little marks were. We'd tried the at home freezing kit as well, and while I don't remember it hurting particularly, I remember I didn't enjoy it.
I successfully used the duct tape method to get rid of the warts on my foot when they returned, but it took a long time, and it was hard to keep duct tape on those areas. I doubt duct tape would stay on my active son's hand, and I doubt he would enjoy having it on his hand at school (he has more than one wart). It has occured to me, though, that if the duct tape works because is it smothering the wart, maybe I could paint his warts with clear nail polish. That would stay on better than duct tape, and you'd think it would also smother the warts.

 sorry yes the freezing can feel weird or painful, why i'd wanted to give the disclaimer. the duct tape thing was just too time consuming for me and too much of a bother. not sure how clear nail polish would work. couldn't hurt to try. they do make little salicylic (sp) acid patches as well as a brush on form and you can put an unobtrusive bandaid over it. i used those on a wart on my friends finger and it was fairly rapid at removing it and totally painless, fwiw it looks like there are similar types of products now in liquid and stick form that you just apply and leave. seems like it would be much easier on a child than something unpleasant or that requires something staying put on them, which seems about like bandaging an eel.

Yet another timely thread I stumble on! I have issues about this, partly just out of depression and the "I don't cares", partly out of "I have to take care of everyone else, I'm last on the list". I have the entire line of Clinique skin care products, but have a hard time washing my face in my own sink because the clutter is taking over the counter. I can use the swirly brush with the cleanser in the shower-when I shower. My closet is so cluttered that I can only find a few clothes in it, so I end up wearing pretty much the same things every day. I'm overweight and have large underwears, and don't replace them even after innumerable periods and accidents because "why bother?" I've developed stress incontinence. My bras are all stretched out and surely the wrong size, but I'm embarrassed to go to a fitter to do it right because I'm overweight. I'm worried about wasting a lot of money if I do lose the weight. My nails are all chewed down, and my feet last got a pedi at Christmas. In fact, this is a plug for beauty colleges. I went to one in Eugene that does nails and feet (and hair) for a song, since the students need clients. It was something like $10 for a pedi. I love baths but hate moving the junk out of the tub to take one. On the good news front, I read the entire thread and ordered one of those shower picks for teeth .

I'm morbidly obese. I was feeling extremely tired and depressed. I wasn't hungry. I'd skip breakfast, and many times, lunch as well. I wasn't losing any weight though. The growth of hair, all over my body had stopped. My husband was concerned, so, he convinced me to go to a doc. The doc did some bloodwork because he suspected some problems, but wanted to be sure. I had a Vitamin B12 deficiency which causes problems with the immune system. It can cause frequent yeast infections and drying skin due to a fungus. I has low thyroid hormone levels which also suppress immune function. Last, even though I didn't have the excess hair growth normally associated with polycystic ovarian syndrome, I did have higher than normal blood sugar levels and hormones because of it. So, my doc put me on levothyroxine, vitamin b12, and metformin, and I feel better, when I actually take my meds, I mean. I've also been using iodized salt because a common reason for low thyroid hormone levels is lack of iodine in the diet. Just throwing that out there in case others might have similar problems. Btw, the cost of my prescriptions in US is less than $20 for a month's supply.

I was having frequent yeast infections that went away since I've been taking the meds.

Regarding the dental problems, I have had three root canals done in the past two or three years. Two were actually on the same tooth. Even though I thought I took pretty good care of my teeth for most of my life, I guess I came pretty close to early stages of gingivitis at one point. Very recently, I did start on a new mouth care regimen that I think is really helping with my teeth and gum health that I would highly recommend to anyone who is interested. If you're not, then please disregard. It's pretty simple, but for someone on a limited income, it might scare you off when you go to price the products involved. What I've done is use half of what's recommended on the the product labels, and the dentist is okay with that. Here's a link describing the steps involved. The CloSys seems expensive, but it lasts a long time. The other products can be purchased less expensively by shopping around. And the xylitol can be purchased less expensively, too. When I first started, I didn't have xylitol because I couldn't find it locally. After I found a less expensive source online I added it in as recommended. I have noticed my mouth tastes much better than it used to, my teeth actually do look better, and an unexpected side effect is that I've lost 5 pounds! I actually read that xylitol has been linked with weight loss. But I'm thinking it's more related to snacking less because I'm so focused on the clean mouth feeling. Although I haven't been as hungry as usual lately. It could just be a coincidence. P.S. Here is a link describing how to do this in countries where ClosSys is not available: askdrellie.blogspot.com/p/ellies-system-other-countries.htmlI know this is a bit old, but wanted to make sure that anyone considering using xylitol in anything was aware that it was toxic to dogs (and probably other animals, although not documented). It's often found in sugar-free gum. So, make sure you keep everything like that where your animals couldn't accidentally get to it.

I neglected going to the dentist for about 3 1/2 years, even though my insurance was charging my credit card monthly for premiums. I finally went last Dec so I could use up my allotted benefits for the year, and I was pleasantly surprised that I only had 2 cavities - one which I knew I had 3 1/2 years before, at my last visit. I didn't even need much of a dental cleaning. Even with cleaning & x-rays, it wouldn't have amounted to the nearly $1700+ I paid for insurance that I didn't use.
I switched credit cards a few months ago and forgot to tell the insurance company. So my payments have lapsed. I think they are about to cancel my account. I've been debating if it's really worth keeping up with it. I wasn't planning on going this Dec. I also do have a dental school clinic nearby. And I need to pay for health insurance more as I have developed a couple other health issues that need to be addressed.

Clutterblind.. I could not tell if you were only talking about only the dental, or both the health insurance and the dental, but make sure you check on your premiums. IF you get canceled and go without insurance for 60 days, you may not be able to get new insurance and you will have to have a physical. This is for private insurance, not group plans through an employer, though most have this clause also. That may disqualify you, or have exclusions for pre existing conditions if you do get back on or have to buy new.
I know all this, because after my divorce, I paid for COBRA for 36 months, and then went and bought my own policy. I did a lot of research.. and though I can understand the cost is prohibitive for some, if you can afford it, please keep up your premiums. I have to, as I own a house and some assets and if I could not pay my medical bills or Gforbid a major illness.. I would lose the house or have a lien on it.. or take my other assets. I can not find a job with insurance, more and more employers offer none, or cost more than my private plan. Just my thoughts... keep the dental, two appts a year, usually you get more if you use it, than what you pay in.. and me, I am scared of the dentist.. one of my only fears.
