A thread for posting about forgotten, lovely, but most importantly USEFUL things which turn up when you declutter. I'm sure this has been done before but I can't see a recent thread so I thought I'd start this. Today as I was rooting in my bedroom for shoes to take to the charity shop I discovered - hidden by old newspapers, sweet wrappers & layers of sluts wool but unharmed by the experience - a gorgeous red pair which are not only nice looking but support my shonky feet wonderfully. I'll wear them tomorrow and set off with a spring in my step, born partly from foot comfort, partly from decluttering triumph Finds like that are so rewarding - what have you found recently that seems like a gift out of the blue?

I found a diamond necklace a few months ago, when I cleared off the top of my dresser. It had been missing through at least three or four moves, over about 17 years.
It was sandwiched in between some papers.

I found my only photo of my late sister. It was with other things in a container, and the others were ruined by water. But it was safe.

I found my only photo of my late sister. It was with other things in a container, and the others were ruined by water. But it was safe. That is so awesome. I had an aunt staying for a while who insisted I needed a tea cosy, and thought I should have more aprons than I do. And my mother was going to visit my niece, and I couldn't afford to send my niece a little gift as I normally try to do. Woe. So I'm digging through the remaining boxes of clutter in my den, and lo! I find, in a box of handmade stuff bought at a charity sale, a tea cosy and two aprons and a nightie cover that I had forgotten I had. It was faintly miraculous.

You ones all find nice lady stuff. I found a machete behind the freezer in the chicken house.... Nothing like a diamond necklace or treasured photo. Well, maybe soon. I'll keep at it. I did also find a dog leash, so that is useful at least.

I have found money in envelopes. The latest find was over $60.00. It was probably from depositing a pay check and then withdrawing money. I put some in my "secret places" when I need gas money and the bank isn't open.

I found the receipt to my new refrigerator that hasn't been delivered yet, and that I will probably need the receipt for to get it delivered.

I found a bag of artist supplies I bought a year or so ago. How the bag migrated under my bed, I have no idea! (I had fought the impulse to replace the items since I was sure they were "around here somewhere". Whew!)
I also found some knitting instructions that my mom had written out by hand. She passed away almost 40 years ago, so seeing something new in her handwriting gave me the chills and some tears. Those instructions are now safely put away so I will always know where they are.

My parents gave me an opal and diamond ring when I graduated high school in 1970. I only wore it on fancy occsuions. I kept it in my bedroom in my jewelry box in its'original ring box. . One day I couldn't find it. I figured my babysitter had been snooping and stole it box and all. I never confronted her but never trusted her again. Then one day about two years ago I found the box in the bottom floor of my closet. No idea how it got there.

Great thread! I found a bunch of stamps and some pretty note cards one time. Another time I found some tools I had misplaced, a nice hammer.

I'm enjoying reading this thread. I think it is so neat when we find a cherished photo or something written by a loved one. I, too, have found things over the years that I thought had been stolen. Squalor makes us distrust innocent people. It's nice to find even small things that are useful.

Nothing sentimental, but I found a small stack of gift cards from Christmas and birthday a year ago.

Just two days ago in the room of doom, I found some of the tiny collectibles I thought had disappeared by mistake when a friend helped my DD move out, and there they were, in a cookie tin. YAY.
(oh-oh more to dust)

Some time back, my grandson wanted to borrow one of my guns for his 4-H Shooting Sports club. I could not find the ammunition clip that went in it. I searched high and low. Thought I would have to order a replacement. They aren't cheap. One day I decided to do a Flylady 2-minute hot spot clear-off. I decided to do the hot spot that accumulated on top of my fridge. There, in under two minutes, I found the ammo cartridge, and a store credit to a local jewelry store for $100! That was two minutes well spent! (and my fridge had a little bare spot on it.
