I still eat a lot of meals and drunk a lot of drinks upstairs. The meal dishes usually end up back downstairs eventually (I am getting better at this!) But glasses are a pain getting them downstairs out back upstairs when I'm needing a drink. (Mobility issues.) At first I just had my rinsed glass with cordial and only taking the glass down when it was filthy. Then I stuck a mini shampoo bottle filled with washing up liquid upstairs. It's gone from that to having a couple of inches for washing up and drink supplies in the bathroom cupboard. Usually there's no more than 2 glasses, but it's nice to know that I can still keep what's needed upstairs but it doesn't end up caked in mould.

Timely bump of this thread. At the moment I'm thinking I will toss the dirty unwashed dishes in a spare horse watering trough outside. That should hold them all.

Great thread.
Possibly related thought: if I have a panful of gunk, such as a pot of soup that's gone off, I pour it down the lavatory and flush it away. Of course I'm assuming a working WC is available. Anyway, I just mention it because sometimes it's a useful way to get rid of food that no one's going to eat but that would be bad for the dogs and not suitable for the compost.

Is that the same thing as the toilet? Because I have flushed leftovers down the toilet. I make sure not to dump.enough at one time to clog the toilet, and I don't pour grease in it. Otherwise, the toilet is a great way to dispose of stuff, because usually by then, I don't even wanting the chickens to eat it! I have also filled up a bucket with nasty leftovers and dumped them in the woods, where possums and such have the option of dining on them, or they will just rot down into the forest floor.

Yeah, Dayeanu a lavatory or WC (or john or bog or loo or.....) are all the same thing. I've done this as well, especially since moving here because they're terrible at collecting my household rubbish on schedule, which is only once every 2 weeks in the first place, so them missing it once is bad enough! If I have gunk or meat scraps that are going to start spawning maggots - it goes down the toilet here too.

What a great thread! I have a suggestion that works wonders. If you have a sink full of dishes that gives a feeling of overwhelm and you don't want to do them or even start them: Fill up a large cup with hot sudsy water, Place some cutlery in the cup, knives blade down, forks tines down, and spoon upside down. Let soak in cup for a while. These will come up gleaming! Rinse and dry. This will make you so happy that you will want to stack up likes together to the side and clean out the sink to use to soak dishes. This really works.
