I have been procrastinating on getting my house cleaned for days now. I decided instead of freaking out and thinking about the whole project, I am just gonna clean one whole room per day. My whole house will be done by one week from today.
Does anybody else want to join me on this challenge? You can choose any unit you want to work with. It can be rooms like me,or just one drawer, or trash bag out, or one shirt washed, whatever you are able to do without breaking your good mood and sense of accomplishment worth the amount of work required. Does that make sense? In other words lets keep this fun and easy but productive.
The most important thing though is that you maintain each piece of work you have done as you add new work. Don't lose any area to new squalor.
Also start with what you genuinely want to do. I have a bazillion reasons to start with my kitchen. But guess what? I don't wanna! So na na na na na na, I'm not! I'm starting with my bedroom and that's fine because by doing small pieces I know it will all eventually get done. It's better to start with the so called wrong thing than avoiding everything.
So, who is in and what is your one thing for today?

And be careful guys. Now that I committed to cleaning my room, everything in me is being driven to clean other parts of the house. Its the old procrastination boogie. Lol I think I am going to coin that term! Anyway I am off to clean my room.

Good going, Swan! I will try to settle on one thing tomorrow and let you know what it is and then post when it is done. Oh, and it will NOT be an entire room... Thanks, CD

I got up early today, showered, put on clean clothes, then went to the kitchen and cleaned it completely, took out the trash, even mopped the floor. Now I have 2 medical appointments this morning, must rush out.

Okay, I am here and ready to commit to "one thing". Hmmm. Okay, my one "special" thing to do today will be to go thru my current beige purse. I am using black purse right now, so no need to keep everything in my beige one... and end up with another purse years from now that needs cleaning out. That is my one thing for today. Swan and Fluffernut -- Y'all have done fantastic already!!! I'll check back in later when I am done. I know it is small and I like that you invited others to join you even if it is just one item or an entire room. Thank you, CD

Great work Swan and fluffernut, and good luck cando!
I have one sprained ankle right now and the other foot apparently is fractured, but I have a chair I can scoot around in, and can clean one shelf of of mt fridge. So that ONE shelf will be my one thing I can definitely do today.

Swan, I love the idea of this, however a whole room seems out of reach for me. As I attempted to downsize the goal, I began to type... then I began to panic, because if I didn't complete whatever the "just one" thing was, I would be discouraged and feel like a failure. So... I backed out of the whole deal. (I know I'm psycho...) Then after I walked away and came back I remembered that this morning I cleaned and vacuumed out my car. So that can be my "Just One" thing for the day. I didn't wash the outside of it yet, so maybe I can do that later today and really fiinish the job.

Update: It's not perfect, but I spot cleaned the outside of my car, and rinsed off the grime with a hose.

You aren't psycho Ally! You are just like the rest of us, you are sensitive to issues about getting stuff done and have anxiety about it. I have found a lot of help for myself in these areas by reframing my thoughts. When I think badly about myself I remind myself I am a human being, just like all other human brings and we all have issues. I remind myself that I need to love myself and appreciate who I am, issues and all. I am an unique, special, lovely human being that needs love and compassion from others and myself and so are you Ally. You cleaned out the car today, you did good even if you never get around to the outside. You did something that contributes toward your ultimate goal. Good job. Period.

It doesn't matter how small our task is. What matters is that we made a decision and took a step closer to our ultimate goals. We are moving in the right direction, even if we are only taking small steps. Every day that we move in the right direction is a day of progress. So many of us pooh pooh what we do and don't value it. We feel silly in front of others and dont want to celebrate our accomplishments. Every body who did Anything today has accomplished something because we are no longer sitting there in anxiety and procrastination and fear and avoidance doing Nothing but driving ourselves crazy and feeling bad about ourselves. Even though we just did something small, we jumped way over on the spectrum of recovering from squalorous maladaptive behavior.
