There is a book that came out about 3 to 4 years ago. SHED Your Stuff, Change Your Life: A Four-Step Guide to Getting Unstuck, by Julie Morgenstern. Previously published as: When Organizing Isn't Enough: SHED Your Stuff, Change Your Life. Here's a youtube video promoting the book: I've seen posts from a few people who have expressed interest in reading/working through the book together. If you would be interested in doing this, we'd like for you to join us. You may buy the book new or used, or maybe even borrow it from your local library. You can even get it as an ebook, or an audio book. From what I understand, the ebook version has the text-to-speech feature disabled, so if you want to listen to it you must obtain the audio-book edition. I just ordered my copy. I think we'll wait a week or so before we start so you have time to order or get out and buy the book. Some notes: 1. If we discuss the book here on the General Board, the content will not be private. So avoid giving details that might reveal your identity. 2. The book is copyrighted, which means that quoting from the book must be kept to a minimum. Extensive quoting is illegal. The book is divided into 5 sections, 3 chapters each. I will start a new thread for each section (or two) of the book. Link to discussion on Step 1: Separate the Treasures Chapters 4, 5, and 6, and Step 2: Heave the Trash Chapters 7, 8, and 9: takeonestepatatime.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=18659

I am interested. I need something to get me moving. Our library doesn't have the book and our B&N has downsized to very little, so I'll probably have to order it.

Bonbons, I get stuck for days sometimes, I am hoping that going through this book as a group will help. Puppybox, I hope you are able to find a copy. CB, I'm hopeful that this will be helpful and worthwhile for all of us. Yrwelcome, I believe this thread was at least partially your idea. Thanks!

I'm going to check my library, and maybe put a call out for it on Freecycle.

I've requested the book from my library, and should have it by Saturday. I heard Julie Morgenstern on public radio years ago, talking about her book Organizing from the Inside Out, and her ideas worked for me as nothing else had. I had the good fortune to see her in person a few years later, at a local seminar!

Hello Everyone! My book came today. I had thought that July 1st might be a good time to get started and that is tomorrow. We'll play it by ear and see how it goes. I thought maybe we might start a new thread with either each section or each chapter. That might make it easier for people to keep up if they are starting later, or going slower or faster. Anyway, Over the next few days, read through: Preparation: Getting Unstuck Chapter 1, What is SHED?Reply with your thoughts questions, comments below. Reminder, you should avoid quoting the text of the book due to copyright law. Usually quoting a sentence is allowed, but please no more than that. Don't wait on me to run this. I did do something similar to this on another forum, years ago with a different book, and it does get a little difficult as people move through the book at different paces. Do what works for you. I was thinking we could aim for a chapter a week, but I haven't read any of the book yet, so I'm not sure whether that is an appropriate pace or not. I'm open to input and if anyone else want to take the reins, feel free. Updated to add: A special thanks to whomever donated their book to a Goodwill store in the Indianapolis area. I bought it through Half.com, but had no idea that it was being sold from a Goodwill warehouse. See stuff donated to Goodwill does get put to good use.

Preparation, Getting Unstuck pp. 1-5
First of all, on pg 2, I think by lead-footed, she means that someone who is moving slowly, because their feet are so heavy. Around this area, someone with a "lead-foot" drives with the "pedal to the metal", or very fast. That doesn't seem to fit in the context.
I'm going to list some of the things she mentions that I see in myself: I need to make a change, and shake things up a bit. I feel like I'm not I'm going to be able to get this house decluttered/cleaned and orderly. I need to release my attachments to things I need clarity in making decisions I'm feeling weighed-down by all of the clutter in my house.
Anyone else have any comment/thoughts?
