I am starting this thread, to get rid of one item a day. I hope others will join in!
One item a day is very doable. That is all you have to do.. one item. It makes it very uncomplicated. It can be something big or small. If you want to get rid of 7 items, or more you can.. but you have to do one a day. One item a day gives you time to think about it if you have to, and do it. One item is easy if you do not want to think so much! You can throw it out. If this is donated item, you must in one week get it out of your house and donate it. To take some items once a week to a drop off is doable. Keeping it simple.
Everyone may have a different meaning for "item". For me it will not be something I normally would toss out. Like trash, but for someone that has issues with throwing out anything, that might be the right step. You decide. I know for some this may not be easy, and for others, it is a simple way to keep going.
I know for me a simple item may be one book a day.. I have a lot of books. Or one piece of clothing. I suggest that for most of us, we go small at first. I did one bag a week once.. but right now, 1 item a day will work!
Please post the item. If posting the item makes you think too much, do a weekly post. Do not think too hard about it. One item. I will be back later and post! Thanks!

Dear Missue, What an excellent idea, thanks for creating this thread. So far I have felt ambivalent about the 2013 items thread, but 365 items sounds far less intimidating... The item I'll decide to throw away today will be one of my many empty (yet beautiful) perfume bottles. I'll definitely commit to 365 items, but I can't promise I'll write 1 up here every day. I look forward to read what others will post, that might work as an inspiration...

You know what? Consistency definitely seems to be a problem in my life. Not just in decluttering but in other matters, also. I am surprised when I look at my previous logs sometimes & see there are so many days that I did not toss even 1 item! How can that be?! Most here know that I have paper problems, so even 1 paper could be tossed a day... but no... days have passed when nothing was tossed. I would like to join you on this to help me become more consistent. There are many days that I do toss a lot, but why not every day? Thanks for this thead. CD

I'm on board too. I will be counting trash some days, as it will give me the push I need to pick up the item and move it to a trash bag.

I have 3 books to donate, to add to the small bag I have others in.. no looking in the bag at previous decisions!
I often think long term, but getting rid of "stuff", it may help to not think 365 items, or as others have said 2013. That can be overwhelming! Depends on the individual. I try hard to stay in the present when I am working on getting rid of things. Stay simple and small. My goal, get rid of 25 things. That is less scary to some and doable.
Like I will keep saying.. just get rid of one thing. A piece of paper is something!
Like most good habits of any behavior change, it will take time to establish. It may be too time consuming to post for some every day. Think about writing it down daily for yourself. Keep it simple. When I worked out every day at an athletic club, I wrote it down in an inexpensive day calender, and put a simple foil star on the square. For some reason that simple plain foil star, they came in red, blue and silver..on a sheet, did it for me. A good visual and I easily could add up how many days I worked out. It gave me a sense of accomplishment.. and it was. Same with getting rid of things. Some people use pennies or dimes in jar.. for every one item you get rid of, pay yourself 10 cents. A visual for me is what is important to remind myself, I am doing it. I can do it.
Thanks to all who joined in!

I am all for keeping it simple too. I added three milk containers to the trash bag that was sitting by the front door (my bag of trash gathered this weekend : ) ) and I brought the bag to the curb. I had four of these containers sitting in the hallway for over a week - and I thought about what one thing I could add to the trash bag, grabbed the three I could carry and went on. I should have walked back and gotten the fourth container...but I will keep it simple and not overthink it. That container will make it out another day, maybe even tomorrow

To all.. you are doing great! I love to see what everyone is getting rid of. So encouraging for me too!
My one thing today is this big bubble dome thing that is suppose to keep things fresh, you plug it in on your counter. I have never used it, and I paid 5.99 according to the GW sticker. I looked it up on Amazon and some say it works, other reviews worthless. I have no idea if a plug transformer thing came with it or where it would be. I bought this during my post divorce shopping at thrift shops, and who knows what the heck I was thinking! Either way I have no space to use this. I keep knocking it down or it falls over in my office. Why I have it there, because even with a huge kitchen and counter space, this thing takes up too much space! So out it goes, to the donation box..!
Keep going all.. and my new word to spur me on " ENOUGH"! That covers a lot of bases, enough stuff, enough already trying to figure out why.. you all get it.. just enough!

Misssue: I love the way you thought trough your decision to throw that food dome away. - Very good job getting rid of something semi-useful or "supposedly useful" mainly because it's not as useful as your SPACE. I shall try to think like that more often too...
