Large bag of trash out including all DH's socks and shoes from when his feet were swelled beyond belief, and an old pair of my barn shoes which I had saved to wear in the garden, etc. I also got rid of a bar stool with a back that DH used in the bathroom. The finish was ruined and one leg had major problems. I had bought him a new one, and I was not going to refinish and repair the old one. I also cleaned up in the barn by throwing away a truck bed full of empty feed sacks.

Cookbook stand out to the Free Box.
I kept thinking: "I should use this" but I never did because it was such a nuisance and a space waster. So instead I stored it folded up for the past 4 years under my receipt box... thus it became another layer of sludgy sediment of clutter, taking up space and not being used. I'm SO glad I could finally let it go.

I purged 4 items today! I donated my old dining table, 2 chairs, and an iron bird cage. Volunteers from the animal, shelter thrift shop came by to pick it all up today!! I forgot to give them two boxes of books, so I'm going to load those in the car to drop off this week.

The lid to a glass coffee jar - I am not sure where the remaining part is. I always think that I should keep these jars for storage, but the reality is I prefer to use square plastic containers as they are a more efficient use of space. This lid has been sitting on my desk for way too long, along with a lot of other random stuff that needs to be sorted, so today it goes out.

Tossed an old dish brush. It looked pretty grungy when I had a good look - it was in the laundry room so not used for dishes but even so I didn't want to keep it around anymore.

Am I the only person who thinks of my home like a living body with a digestive system? If I take this analogy too far, it gets disgusting, so I won't. But the stuff will keep coming in, and the stuff has to keep going out to keep the body healthy and lean. How "lean" your home is may be a matter of taste, but it still needs a healthy flow. I'm like the fiber, or the occasional strong laxative keeping stuff going out. Or the energy, getting rid of those pockets of "fat" … hoarded "good stuff" that we're not actually going to use. Anyway, in the past couple of days, I've disposed of ugly board/cinderblock shelving … all cinderblocks out of the house, and most of the boards (already in use for firewood at the cabin). Also five bins of trash (many ruthless decisions involved there) and three big trash items … a big paint can that's been drying out in the garage, a leaf blower that just died, and a piece of furniture wrecked by flooding in the basement. Edit: Oh, and I got some actual FAT out of the house … the tubs of fat that have been in the freezer that are so hard to remember on trash days. I don't want them thawing, attracting animals to the trash … but it's so hard to remember a last-minute thing that's tucked out of sight in the freezer.
