I never liked Flylady. Too pink, too frilly, too saccharine. She has good content, but the delivery is off-putting for me. This, however, I can deal with. Love it! Thank you Lioness!

They have an app! It is wonderful! It gives you timed challenges in different rooms! Caveat: I curse like a sailor and even I am a little over the language. And it costs $1.99.That being said, the app is the sh*t!!!! Thank you so much Ms. lion for bringing this to Our attention!!!!

Interesting, if slightly off-topic: while everyone on this thread so far seems agreed that this is a worthwhile site and thanks Lioness for posting the link, there seem to be two clearly divided positions in re its use of the F-word - - those who find it off-putting and perhaps wish that the site was called "Un-(Fudge/Hump/Screw/Stuff*/etc)-Your-Habitat." - those who find it refreshingly like they speak and think whenever they are not keeping it clean so as not to be inadvertently off-putting to others. I don't think that this is good or bad or anything (and I apologize if my own membership in the second group has affected my wording so as to make it seem like I do), I just think it's interesting. (*"Stuff" seems to be a British-&-Commonwealth English slang equivalent (or near-equivalent) of "screw" in American English slang, making "UnStuff Your Habitat" an ever-so-apropos pun. )

I skimmed the site pretty quickly. From what I've seen, I really like the site. I use those words in real life. so someone talking to me from a real, unvarnished place, hits at a level of truth for me. The TRUTH of something often isn't pretty. But we recognize it because it hits the core of our being. They are words, just WORDS. The power they have is what (general) you put into them. If you want to be offended, then they will offend you. certain swear words are designed to shock us out of our complacency, our sleep-walking state. That's how I view how the swear words are used in this site. They are a wake up call. Squalor isn't pretty. Hoarding isn't pretty and can be downright dangerous. If not to ourselves, then to the firefighters & EMT who will come in to save our lives that we ourselves don't value. Yes, some of us are living in a f%$&#^@& pig sty. Our lives and relationships are f%&^$& up! To put pretty cosseted words around it really may not be helping us. And I LOVE the fact that they say the word L@ZY! That word shouldn't be censored like the name, Voldemort. Like we are too fragile to hear the word. Or that it has the power of the "N-word" or other swear words. That word needs to be examined, confronted and dis-empowered. Not shielded from. Sometime, we are being l@zy and making excuses. Sometimes, there are extenuating reasons we are the way we are. And we need to be able to stand up to others who call us that. Or worse, ourselves, when we silently call ourselves that over & over. We are stronger than we think. And we need to realize we are stronger than we know.

I never liked Flylady. Too pink, too frilly, too saccharine. She has good content, but the delivery is off-putting for me. So true! I really want to get the witch after her. (See my previous post.) The witch has a tricked out, high performance broom that has been through many speed trials. The witch would win in an air race, hands down.

This looks like a GREAT site. Language doesn't bother me a bit but I can understand if it does. Like her directness. Thanks for the tip! And yeah, Flylady didn't do it for me either. She has some good tips but lots and lots of products to buy and condescending. We're messy - not dumb.

Have I mentioned that many years ago, early 90's Flylady was part of the first internet group I was in, part of Pam and Peggy of the Slobsisters? She was just who she was, a housewife and her name came from fly fishing, not from flying around.. she did not stand out, just part of the pack! She got a lot of her ideas from being on that board, and it was very much like this board, challenges support etc. Run by members, Pam and Peggy did contribute.. very early internet days. I find her annoying a bit too.. not to mention she took her participation and turned into a career! It was a great group... that and a needlework group I belonged to, I considered friends, like all of you. Hoarding, was not a word then either.. we were messies or slobs!
I think that the plain talk in this site, and the language like swearing in general is for shock value, has some place for some of us. You can have years of therapy, spend time to the whys you can not keep up the house, your life, and the clutter, the hoard, the mess the squalor under control... but the bottom line is, you either do it or not. No excuses and millions of people, work, have or not have kids, are in relationships, alone or somewhere inbetween, own or rent, and they keep it under control... I am not saying anyone is L**Y or not without issues, mental or physical. You fix it or you do not... for me, some of is is simple, I have to do it. For me, a kick in the butt is what I need some days. Information and how others do their life and manage always interesting.. Thanks for posting this!

Lioness, thank you for posting this!
I'm one of those people who can't deal with FlyLady. She has good content, but it's covered up by excessive emails, constant selling of products, and No, I am not a flybaby! I just can't deal. All the purple and prissy and just.. I can't.
I had never seen UFYH, but I like it. The app (iOs only, no android yet) isn't bad either. I use the homeroutines app daily, but I bought the UFYH app when I saw your post, and I like it for a more random approach instead of a routine. It reminds me to clean things I wouldn't have. A caution about the app- yes, it has the same language as the website.
The language doesn't bother me. I don't usually use it, although some occasions just require a curse word, but they're just words.

I took a peek and find it to be a very practical website. Is there a forum section or is it more like articles to read? Thanks!

Yes! I liked the Flylady concept when I first visited her site. I thought she addressed some issues that other advice "gurus" of the time were missing. But I found her delivery off-putting. It was like she was talking to a child. The religious overtone on her site and in her book was also not something I appreciated. As for this U.Y.H. site, luckily I am indifferent to the language used, so the message gets through with less interference for me. I do understand how that might not be true for everyone, though.

Thanks for sharing this site. I downloaded the ap and did my first 20/10 last night and was surprised how much I achieved in that time. Definitely more my style than fly lady.

I love love loooove all of the before/after photos on the UFYH Tumblr site, so inspiring. And I'm indifferent to the language as well, it doesn't come off as abrasive to me, just quirky, trying to be different.
