Today I made some minor inroads into the tangle of S's financial affairs. Made a call to clear up a "where is my money" issue.
Given how much time I spent at the computer I feel like I should have gotten more done but I had to first figure out where to start.
Tonight, made a list of people to whom I need to write cards.

I've been awol from the forum this week but have kept up with my daily mail processing. I still have a few things here left to file which I'm planning on doing tomorrow.

I'm in again too, wynken. I did an hour of paperwork yesterday, after a 5-day lapse. The problem is... when I don't do it every day, I have to get re-oriented again. I've tried writing myself post-it notes to stick on the various piles and files, but then I have to read them and figure them out. Sometimes they're so cryptic, I've got no idea what I meant. Solution: Work on paper every day.

I'm having mixed results with my credit report requests.... For those of us who live in the USA, we are entitled to receive our credit reports for free, once every 12 months. All three major credit reporting agencies can be accessed through one easy government-approved online link, here: (or by phone at 877-322-8228) I wanted to get my reports in December, to avoid the January rush, so I placed the order on Dec 1. Experian was the first agency to respond... I got my credit report in the mail in only 9 days. But the other two... TransUnion and Equifax... were very slow. I finally got a letter from each a few days ago, and they both said that my address doesn't match their records. This is very odd, as I've lived here 4.5 years already. It makes me wonder how inaccurate the other info in their records might be. Both agencies requested that I mail them documents proving my address and SSN. I've been very annoyed by this for several days for several logistical reasons... it's been pouring rain, I have a very bad cough, and I really don't want to wait in a long line at the Post Office during Christmas week. Yesterday I finally got the photocopies made, but I haven't mailed them yet. I'm afraid they might get delayed in the Christmas mail. And I'm really annoyed by the time and extra expense, when ordering them was supposed to be easy and completely free. Well, I'm just going to have to suck it up. The whole point of getting the reports is to check their accuracy and fix any errors. So even though the Experian report is accurate, these other two might contain damaging inaccurate info. I have the new Nolo book on "Credit Repair" to walk me through the process. Do you think if I delay mailing these proof documents until Friday Dec 26, will I have to wait in a long line at the Post Office? I am desperately trying to avoid crowds at this time of year... not only because of my own coughing, but I don't want to catch anything worse when my immune system is down.

Thinking out loud about my magazine subscriptions... This year I've been very good about reading my magazines when they arrive and then promptly giving them away. But I spent an awful lot of time reading magazines I don't even like very much. Since I'm not a big fan of Christmas, it was easy to cancel two subscriptions when the over-the-top December issues arrived (Good Housekeeping and Town & Country). Vogue expires in January... I think I'll let it slide for a while instead of rushing to renew. The clothes they're showing these days are kinda ugly and uninspiring.
I'm also catching up reading past issues of Shambala Sun, and I would like to resubscribe when I finish. It comes only 6 times a year, so that's manageable.
I've really been wanting to resubscribe to the weekly New Yorker more than any other magazine, but was afraid of another pileup like in the past. But checking their website, I found that they're offering 12 weeks for $12... what a deal! So I'll subscribe when I get my January SS check, and then The New Yorker will be my only subscription. I can avoid a pileup if I can just get myself in the habit of sticking the current issue in my purse to read on the bus or while waiting in long lines.

thats good reviewing your magazine subscriptions papermoon. I have only one subscription left and I'm going to cancel it when it runs out - I'm finding that I can find most things I need or am interested in for free online these days. My daughter subscribes to most of her magazines in online format now and reads them on her ipad which has also helped reduce paper clutter. Well, I have some bill paying paperwork I need to get done today and also some filing. will post when I've done it as I am noticing that I without posting daily it has become easier to avoid doing as much!

I haven't done much at all this week due to crazy busyness. Last night however, I was home in time to do a rudimentary evening routine and I sat at my desk for a little while. Opened a bit of mail. Fiddled with a couple things in Quicken. Paid a bill.

Now that it's Dec 26, I'm going to a post office away from downtown to mail those two credit document packages.
Last night while watching The Good Wife on DVD, a character mentioned Lexis Nexis, but I had no idea what they meant. However, today while reading the Nolo credit book, I found that LN is another credit reporting agency, from which I am entitled to a free annual report as well. This Nolo book is amazing... it gives all the links and phone numbers and explicit instructions for getting info.
Update: Mailed the credit document packages. Not expecting to receive the reports until January, darn it. Wouldn't it be nice if I got into the habit of requesting them annually, like savvy people do?

I filed some opened mail last night. It wasn't too difficult. Backlog still exists. Paper and filing on my daily list again, and I'm hoping to at least do token efforts to get past my resistance points.
