Well today I went sideways in progress. I came home with a whole bag of papers from a resource fair available for grandparents raising grandchildren. It has a lot of useful for me specifically so now I need to sort it.
Moved all the papers off my nightstand. All household papers are confined to my desk. Still haven't figured out how scanner works. Mine is older and won't let me use the feeder. It insist I use the flat bed one paper at a time...no way. I would never finish. Goal after paying for glasses is to buy a scanner.

Lostchild, there is probably a setting in the computer setup of the scanner that tells it whether to use the sheet feeder or not. I ran into this problem a few years ago at work and I had to uninstall and reinstall it.
Edit: I also have a 'Magic Wand' scanner. It is a little handheld wand type scanner that scans up to 8.5 inches wide and as long as you want. It doesn't play well with bound books, but it is wonderful for loose papers and faster than any flatbed or sheet scanner than I have ever used if you have your papers to be scanned in a stack. I usually use a piece of white board as a background, pull the paper to be scanned onto the background, scan, move to the side and repeat. There is also a little stand that is available for it, but it looks like more trouble than it is worth as far as fast.

I gave away my last Town & Country magazine yesterday. What a relief, it was such an annoying magazine... all the inanely trivial problems of the rich and famous and wanna-be's. Why oh why did I subscribe? Because it was on sale. What an idiot. I never learn.
My subscription has expired but I know it's far from over. T&C will plague me for the next several years with renewal offers, in my inbox and in my mailbox. More junk paper to declutter, dammit. I am still getting renewal offers from Martha Stewart since I stopped that subscription 4 years ago. Oh and Vogue... another death-grip that won't let go.
Meanwhile, the one and only magazine I truly like... the New Yorker... is piling up faster than I can read it. I got a 12-week subscription, and by now I have 5 back issues to catch up reading. So I'd better not renew. It's way too easy to OD way too fast.

hello fellow paperclutterers, just thought I would pop in and say hi, I haven't been on the boards much at all over the last few months but thought I would drop by and just say thanks to you all for supporting me on this thread. Since I got rid of the paper lots of things have changed for the better and I thought it might encourage you all to keep plodding along with it. Once I cleaned out my office of years of paper I turned it in to a sewing room and it really has quite changed my life. I just love sewing and had not done it for years until two Christmases ago when I was feeling sorry for myself and decided to sew a couple of dresses for a charity. It was such a good feeling and it reawakened my love of being creative which I had ignored for years. Once I got my sewing room done my sewing for charity really took off! Quilts, dresses, school bags, baby needs, soon I added crotcheted beanies, scarves, mittens, rugs, soft toys and a bit of scrapbooking here and there. All made possible because I got that office cleared out. I can honestly say I am the most contented I have been for years. I love that little room that I used to dread going into for so many years. I am so busy making things I don't have time to be unhappy. My house is not perfect, but its getting decluttered and painted slowly.I keep up with most of the paper coming in from what I learned here on this thread. So, I probably will be only an occasional visitor to the boards now, but I really did want to thanks everyone who helped me deal with my paper monster so I could spend my time being creative again

Dear Louie thanks for popping in to let us know how you are doing. Wow, it is so heartening to read that you have conquered the paper monster and are now enjoying your life, spending your time doing what you want to do. Good to know that there can be a real life beyond the endless paper shuffling. I am hoping that I will be in the same space as you one day.

Good morning all! Just a quick post, because I want to get some flowers in the box by the door in time for Easter Lunch to brighten up the entrance. Anyway, the Paper Dragon, as I call it, drives me insane if I don't stay on top of it every day. Right now, since I do taxes for a living, I have a few stacks of papers, but it is manageable. Still, I have Girl Scouts, Women's Group, church, Rental Business, Tax Business, and personal stuff to deal with. I have updated April Calendar, but I do have a problem with keeping up with appointments, gym trainer, hair, nails, dermatologist and so on. I have always been absented minded, so it's not an age thing. It may be getting worse, but only slightly. I am now taking just 5 minutes (setting my Flylady timer). Will post back after 5!

My Visa/Debit card was about to expire, and I received a new card (new acct #) some three weeks ago. I only just tonight finally got around to updating all my online automatic bill-payment accounts with the new card #. I resisted doing this for the past three weeks, I don't know why. But it was nagging at me and causing anxiety... both the not-doing it and the thought of doing it.
Why? It didn't take very long, it wasn't hard, I have enough money for all my bills, which I paid tonight. I guess the old gut-churning fears from all those years of not having enough are still easily triggered. That's a big part of the reason why I like automatic bill-payments... so I don't have to grapple with the task and the anxiety and the resistance every month. And sweetest of all... NO PAPER!

Louie, I just saw your post, I wish everyone on this site could read it, because it's the whole point, really. We're all working on our homes so they can be our haven to use for whatever it is we want to be doing with our lives. Sometimes it's hard to remember that while we're in the thick of the difficult sorting and purging and scrubbing.
Congratulations on what you've accomplished, and thanks for stopping in and reminding us of what we can have if we do the work to get there!

I visited my parents for Easter. I have kept my very large magazine collection in their attic for years - we're talking about ten years worth of magazines, maybe 5-20 per month. My father asked if he could throw them away when I was home for Christmas and I said yes. Now they were all gone and one half of the attic was empty. I felt a sting of remorse, especially with my old In Style Magazines and Vogue, but... oh well. I also feel proud of myself, after being a magazine hoarder for all my life! This was a big step for me.

Today I went through my box with greeting cards. Threw out the ugly ones and sorted the rest, plus my stationery and envelopes and put everything in one small box that I placed in the hallway drawer. I now have everything in one place, including good pens and stamps. No more running in panic to the post office to get a card out on time! And I didn't even feel guilty about throwing away "perfectly fine" cards.

I spent multiple grueling hours in the past 2 days finally finishing my taxes from '09 to '14. State and federal. Everything is in stamped envelopes. I have to make copies of '09. Otherwise done. I cannot celebrate with anyone IRL without admitting to how bad my procrastination is. Yikes. Intimacy and connection vs. pride and self-protection!
