Hello all, it is very inspiring to read how well everyone is doing.
Daye - thank you for the chicken soup recipe - I have nearly all of the ingredients on hand, just need to buy some chicken, so I plan to make the soup in the next few days.
I have done one load of dishes today, still a few odd things lying around so I plan to tackle them shortly.

That, ultimately, is all that counts. That you didn't give up; that you came back and tried again. That is what will make the difference in the long run. I'm very proud of you!

Sending congratulations to everyone for doing dishes.
I have let mine go, again. I think it's because I have fewer dishes it is easier to just rinse and leave in sink. (At least I am rinsing them.)
Also, my kitchen sink clogged up this morning - absolutely no water flow. I tried the plunger, boiling vinegar and baking soda, and finally made a trip to the store for toxic chemicals, which I'm allowing to remain in the pipe overnight, per recommendation. So that's my excuse for tonight.
I made spaghetti, which involves sautéing a lot of veggies for the sauce, but only messes up cutting board and chopper, pot to boil pasta, iron skillet and bowls. That's not too much; however, I have breakfast dishes stacked up, too, due to the clogged sinks.
The kitchen this evening is starting to have that trashed look, which is really getting on my nerves.
Apparently, keeping the kitchen clean for a few weeks has sensitized me to messes. That's a good thing.
I am also realizing how even just a small mess *looks* overwhelming.

Dear daye and cleanbee, so sorry to read that you have both recently suffered a bereavement. As I am still new to posting on this board, I haven't wanted to intrude, however please accept my sympathies. I know how hard it can be to keep up with daily chores when dealing with heartbreak, and I would like to say how I admire you both for working to keep up with the dishes at this difficult time.
Daye, I hope that you can get your sink working again soon. As for me, I have had so much inspiration from contributions to this thread and have the dishwasher going as I type.

Sorry for all dealing with tuff stuff . We understand things get ruff. And good intentions get sidelined. I've had to start over - so many times. Hence this thread I suppose.
Welcome back Cleanbee and Louise.
Here - I want my dishes done an hour ago.

Hi cleanbee, I have unloaded the dishwasher too, also hand washed plastics and pans. Now I need to finish the remaining dishes and wipe down benches.

dayeanu - One thing I did when I had trouble with sink drainage and needed to do over the unclogging treatment : - I used a drinking straw to poke down the plug hole repeatedly. Ewwww the goop in the straw, but the next treatment worked. I give the goop multiple prods from time to time still - especially if it seems to slow down at all. Hope the drainage has recovered already.

That's a good thing. I am also realizing how even just a small mess *looks* overwhelming. That is exactly what has been happening here. I don't seem to be able to tolerate (and ignore) undone dirty dishes for days (and weeks) like I did before joining this thread. I find that change amazing because not doing dishes in a timely manner is a habit that has been 30+ years in the making. Today's dishes - DONE GRyPiT - DONE And remember that stovetop I was working on many, many weeks ago? FINALLY finished it and installed the brand new shiny drip pans! YIPPEE!!

Doesn't it make you feel proud! wynken I don't think the straw idea will work for me. The clog seems to be further down in the pipe, beyond what I can see or easily reach. The sink is double, so the pipe makes a Y right under the cabinet. The skin drain openings have little strainers built in, so only a small wire would fit in the opening without removing plumbing. I used the toxic chemical. It's better, but I can tell there is still a clog, because if I let the water run for very long, it starts backing up again. But the sink is usable.

Hi gracious, I am getting the same new feeling about not leaving the dishes lying around. And well done on getting your stove top clean.
Daye - good to hear that your sink is useable again.
Dishwasher unloaded, and first load of dishes washed and in the drainer.
