Last night was Halloween and frankly a long day... I started by getting a reminder that it was the last day to finish my classes to certify for continuing education for doing taxes.
I thought I had time but it turned out that I needed to finish by Oct. 31 so as not to have to start as a newbie and take 60 hours of classes.
When I got on the site it stopped working so my friend and partner in the tax business said come to her house and use her computer...couldn't access site there either...turns out it crashed due to volumes of people trying to meet the deadline which was midnight .
Left friend's house and saw old man pushing his car. I pulled over and took him to his house for containers for gas, took him to get gas, paid to fill them, took him back to his car, made sure he could drive...turns out he had triple bypass...pensioner...nice guy.
Was doing test when I realized daughter left homework. Took it to her...came back finished all tests and submitted.
Went and picked up daughter plus ink for printer then to friend's church who gave me food...I am so thankful.
Came home unpacked food, split it with friend who is homeless. Had her immediately pick it up. Went to Walmart and got candy and kitty litter. Picked up son's friend who wanted to trick or treat but can't go alone. He went with my kids.
Handed out candy for three hours, it rained. Last treater came at 9:30.
Made dinner.
Laid down for what I thought was twenty minutes...woke at 12:34. Exhubby and kid over so son in living room so as not to disturb him I left dishes. Will do them at noon. After morning bath and run for donuts. I took amnesty.
I was just too tired and didn't want to wake kid.

lostchild. I was too tired to deal with dishes last nite so I left them in the sink and passed out before 7 pm! I didn't even give out the Halloween candy I bought for trick or treaters! What matters Is I got the rest I obviously needed last nite and tonite I caught up on the dishes and swiped the sink. This isn't a contest! It's a place to help us do better than what we did in the past. But we still have to take care of ourselves, and sometimes that means the dishes will wait.

Dishwasher is finishing up the second load today. One more to go and I will be caught up. My goal is to stay on top of dishes all week.

lostchild - you had a huge day. You only let yourself down if you don't get caught up in the next days. I've looked at dishes really late and decided they would wait until the next day as well. Good to see you again, and almost caught up onwardandupward.

I got caught up by three and had a small birthday party for my granddaughter, made a cake, took them stargazing at the rec center and am about to finish dinner and do dishes. I feel guilty there is a pot I can't get clean...scorched Mac and cheese home made.
Did dishes twice all ready, cleaned up from cake and from snacks. Also emptied dishwasher twice.

The last time I posted was 10/28 and that apparently was the last time I did dishes. Been a crazy, busy week here (lots of time spent on the road) and dishes weren't washed BUT I did gather them in one place and keep up with GRyPiT. I didn't have a sense of overwhelm or utter defeat when I looked at them but tonight I had a strong sense that I wanted tidiness back in this one area so................
Today's dishes (and yesterday's and the day before that and the day before that) - DONE
GRyPiT - DONE

I'm with gracious. I haven't done dishes since my last post, probably 10/28. I am having very few - mostly glasses - because of my and DGS' schedule, and eating out or to go a lot. lostchild, I could feel the tension and exhaustion just reading your Halloween Day post. Oh. My. Please remember that one of the things we try to get rid of here, along with clutter and bad habits, is guilt. It's a bad thought habit. It's not productive. It can be defeating. So no guilt if we don't do something we wish we had - no matter the reason we didn't. Another thing we try to do here is place taking care of ourselves first. I believe, and many agree with me, that messy home is just another form of not taking care of ourselves. Our health always must come first. If we are too sick to work, it won't get done. We have to value our rest, healthy eating, healthy exercise, etc. That has to come first. We are more important than our houses. I'm proud of wynken and onward and upward. I am proud of everyone who is doing something, even if it's contemplating action. I am proud of me that I am still doing better than I was. I plan to wash my dishes later today. Putting away clean ones stands in the way of doing dishes, more often than not for me. It's an awareness I will put to good use. Wishing everyone a great day, dish-washer-uppers!

Doing dishes has historically been a point of contention for me. Dishes and mail are the "canaries" in my clutter mine shaft. When dishes or mail start to pile up, I recognize them as signs of impending "danger" and take action.
