The goal: to get 2014 items out of our homes by the end of 2014 The method: that is up to you!
Past participants have counted every little thing or by the bag or not at all. Some of us count papers by the sheet or inch or bundle etc... we've counted trash, donations, regifts, and the release of old habits, even a person!
Jump in when and how you like, or just drop in to cheer us on. Remember, everything we get rid of is a great accomplishment, even if we miss the mark. You can't lose!

My lips were so chapped this morning when I got up that I applied a lip mask! Unfortunately the lip conditioner that came with it was all stuck in cap and awful. I just used something else and tossed it out! The first thing I thought was "Yay I can add this to my count!" The second thing was "Wow, old me would have put that back into the medicine cabinet hoping to rescue it later." The whole process of changing my ways of thinking and doing things is really interesting to watch.
Anyway--one down, two-thousand-thirteen to go!

I think six or seven items a day would meet the goal of 2014 in a year! I have done major re-organizing by moving 5 things a day. I cleaned my extremely messy bedroom dresser by removing 5 items a day, and then find each item a permanent home, ,even if "home" is garbage! Yes, amnesty rules! By the way, I get badly chapped lips in the winter. The best solution is to remove the dead skin with a mild scrubbing with a dry toothnrush, then slather on good old vaseline/ petroleum jelly.

Thanks for starting this thread, PaperGrace! And congrats on your goal reaching on the previous one! May this year be as successful if not more so! Good luck to everyone else too! I will participate again, and I won't be counting, because a) I know myself, I am not a counter and it wouldn't work and b) it would cause me anxiety to try. I am more or less in maintainance, so there are not tons of stuff to declutter, but there are always some. I will continue my wardrobe redo this year, and as the summer draws nearer I will be tossing older spring/summer clothes. I am also hoping that this is the year when I get around to tossing my old hand me down couch and easy chairs. AND I am propably going to move to a smaller place too sometime in the next months, (to which I have started to prepare by reducing stuff, and will continue to do so). I assume the move will be relatively easy as I now have 1 room almost empty, so moving to a home which is 1 room smaller isn't such drastic thing as it would be if all my current space would be heavily used.

Thank you for starting this, Papergrace. During my mad dash looking for things to get rid of yesterday, I was reminded that I did go through a lot of storage during the last year and got rid of a lot of easy stuff. However, since I still have too much, that means I have to get to the next level and let go of more this year. I count things that I had decided to permanently keep, or kept because I haven't "dealt" with them yet. So I would not count a food wrapper because I have no trouble throwing those away--or a piece of junk mail that I can tell I don't want by glancing at it. But I would count a mail order catalog that I feel I have to look through before discarding. As for books, I don't count any that I acquire to sell or give away, just books that I had planned to keep/read myself. I'm also going to make myself a weekly reminder on my list software to post in this thread, that way I won't forget all about it at the end of the year when it's out of sight. Diane

Thank you for starting this thread. I threw out 50 wooden ornaments -I had for years but never got them painted. 9 cardboard boxes - some of them very old and heavy. 1 broken bucket 1 furnace filter 3 bags of garbage. I have 1,950 to go.

Thank you for the thread. I did not participate last year officially, but i got rid of loads of items. I will start this year by going to my storage unit and tossing things. Hopefully by the end of the year I will only have furniture left and will be able to find a better home for them. When I got the storage unit I planned on getting a new place and needing the items in storage. My daughter would like me to stay here with her, so I may not need these items again. The new year will give me the opportunity to decide what to do with all of my stuff. I may have 2014 items in the unit.

January 1, 2014 Count me in! Like dtesposito said, I won't count obvious trash or junk mail---just the stuff that takes thought and decisions. 2 old cassette tapes to trash 2012 to go

I'm going to list (not count) things that are different from normal.
I tossed half of my "edible christmas decorations" (oranges and apples with cloves stuck on them in a simple pattern - I say edible but they are not meant for eating) and finally used up and tossed what was left of a shower gel I didn't like. I tend to leave the very bottom of bottles unused if I don't pay attention.
Nice to see so many participating!

Okay, I'll give this a try. I'm moving at the end of the month, so I may only stick to this for the month of January, but since I have so much to get rid of before I move, maybe I'll make a decent amount of progress toward the 2014 items.
I have 80 books and what not packed up in my car right now to donate to the library! Woo-hoo!

I'm in. My New Year's Resolution is to reduce everything in my life by 20% (including me, ), so this fits right in with that theme. I'll start my count with 1 pair of black yoga pants. I was folding laundry this morning and realized that pair was worn out, and if I put it back in my drawer I would probably wind up wearing them out of the house, and I should have more self respect than that. 2013 to go!
