angela Remembering that I already have enough is a sure way for me to calm my acquisitiveness. << this
I have so many bins of cute stuff from a lifetime of travel and gifts and such that I just try to ROTATE them seasonally..a good friend taught me to just swap out things I love, to give the eye time to enjoy them again, and it works!

good work, angela, with the non acquiring and remembering to shop your stash for seasonal enjoyments. peaceandfreedom, that lady's kitchen cabinet remodel is inspiring - it's amazing what just paint can do! i don't know why more people don't use it. i did some acquiring today on the mainland. went thrifting at 3 different stores: two small picture frames and two cds for $2 +tax- one frame is an odd size you never find anymore. perfect for a small print i've wanted to frame for a couple years! two blue willow saucers - i broke one recently - $2 +tax clothing: 1 black turtleneck, 1 pr black knit elastic waist pants, 1 gorgeous blended yellows into white fine cotton scarf, and one deep purply blue soft comfy Pendelton merino wool pull on sweater, and a bundle of modern/vintage pastel colored fat quarters - all for $18 incl tax i'm so pleased with all those purchases and i didn't go too wild. but then i went to another thrift and got 3 not-needed items for $7 incl tax. all in all pretty good for me;and i will use everything except maybe the last 3 items - which were bought for their sheer beauty. none of this takes up too much space; a box of stuff will need to go out to make up for it.

I have been shopping a lot on Saturday. Bought some presents, some artificial tulips for my living room, a table runner, a coffee can, a pair of running shoes and a pair of exercise trousers.

My shopping has been for kitchen remodel. A new sink, 5 sheets of bead board for walls, tract & clips for cabinet shelves and new knobs and pulls for new kitchen cabinets.
For my shed room I bought an electric kettle, a hotplate and a dustpan. The electric kettle and hotplate may come in handy here at home during the kitchen remodel.

nice job on getting kitchen remodel stuff, imamess - sounds fun and practical, all you bought - including the hotplate, dustpan, and electric kettle. way to "shop your stash," H2H! - and the beret, gloves, and sequin cuffs! i love the bling-bling!.! the feather duster tool sounds like a need - i hope you get just what you want. you too, lucie - wtg on the exercise pants and running shoes! i've been helping my 75 yr old neighbor pack for moving. she even paid me some today! she keeps trying to give me things. i took 2 gorgeous sparkly blue iridescent plastic beaded curtains with stars and moons - very pretty! i was going to take the 3rd curtain that was hanging out on her back balcony , (she's on the ground floor) but i needed a step-stool. turns out, last night, some JERK came along with a knife and cut half of the curtain completely off - the part with the pretty scallopy bottom! what nerve! they left me enough that i can hang that one just on the top of the south facing window, so in a way, they actually did me a favor 'cause my cat likes to use that windowsill. i was mad as hades that they did that before the lady even moved out! what's wrong with people nowadays? the other two long beaded curtains, i'm still playing with ideas. i had one in front of front door and it may go back there. i may hang both in front of my double sliding doors, or they may go out on the back balcony as sort of a visual "screen"- no one is gonna climb to the 2nd story to mess with them. they will afford me a little "buffer" from the nosey upstairs neighbors in the building perpendicular to ours; they stare right into my living room from their balconies - and i'm scared of what they will see in the hoarded mess of a LR - so i usually keep the curtains shut tight against prying eyes. i also took a copper bottom pot in the larger size - if it doesn't fit in my narrow cabinets i will donate it.

Drove all the way to town to get the "feather duster" at BB&B..my ONLY planned acquisition! .....then got sidetracked when the assertive clerk pressured to 'help' me... I said I was looking for hand held steamer for cleaning tile/toilets..no one makes them anymore.
insistent clerk said they had "them", looked online, came back, wanted me to just order NOW and free delivery......but had no info on price, wattage, heat of steam.. I walked her back the store system computer to "show me".
she had ONE on last page (not 'MANY') and had no idea it was $149.!! I looked at her and said "please don't fake info you give to customers" I would have been really upset if they had ordered it and I'd have to turn it down.
Then I walked by the thermoses..and the ones I got there are 24 oz. but only 8 hr heat at best this 24 oz take away thermos, also allowing drinking spout keeps hot for 18 hr.. a REAL "Thermos" like my old beat up one, so I got it. On sale $24.99 vs $29.99..and I used my $5 coupon ..yea..too bad sales tax in CA is 10%, wipes out value!
Forgot the feather duster!!!

Bought some special easter eggs for my parents and I. The metal cases are inspired by Faberge eggs, they were quite expensive for me, but I had to get them.

I've been quite restrained with acquisitions lately I see. I'm not compelled to go to the thrifts as a special trip though if I'm in close I'll take the time to go in and look around. I haven't been going to just escape the house though I would like to escape the house. I've given up on our local Goodwill and Value Village for now. Prices too high, stock quality too low. The two smaller local independent thrifts are reasonably priced and their inventory is higher quality. When I have gone, I haven't gotten too many "someday" acquisitions, though I will admit to still being drawn to, and usually willing to buy good craft materials when I see them. I am also willing to buy things that would replace something that is getting worn out. Or things that I know are rare at the thrifts, like good shoes in my size. I have to say, part of my lack of acquisition is that there hasn't been a lot of good stuff at the thrifts lately too. Not good by my standards anyway, which are actually fairly high. So maybe I'm giving myself too much credit for restraint. Would I be so moderate if presented with a larger selection of things that are both nice and cheap? Hmm. _________________ Went into the larger of the local thrifts yesterday on my endless quest for shoes and pants. I have added underwear to this category, since I found two brand new with tags bras and 3 brand new with tags underwear earlier this year. So, good finds today: A pair of newish dark warm gray corduroy pants. Good, high waist, deep pockets, just the right length, etc. My favorite pair of taupe cords is starting to show some wear and sag in the seat and I fear they won't make it through another winter in good shape. They may be downgraded to barn wear next year. So sad. Anyway, this new pair was $4.99. 1 pair new underwear. Hanes all cotton. .99. A pull-over cowl neck top. Hmm, how to describe...it's made out of the micro-fiber fleece with the plush side inside. Quite thick and cushy. Not a cowl, not a turtleneck, somewhere in between. Good long sleeves. Sage green. Looks like it was never, or rarely worn. It was half off yesterday for $2. It can be a nice after-shower, before bed sweater and on cold nights, could wear it as my bed sweater. The sweater I've been wearing to bed needs mending, it's a formerly nice cashmere sweater that I picked up cheap because of a couple of those little pin holes created by broken threads. It's a v-neck and I've noticed as the winter has worn on, that I have often wanted something up around my neck. So this new purchase should be fine for that. I can keep the v-neck as an undershirt for my outdoor work.

I think this is my first comment in this thread, but I want to publicly confess. I had an appointment this am and drove right by a big store that sells everything CHEAP. Some knock-offs, seconds, and last season's items (stuff that makes me feel SO superior when I snag a deal.) It's huge and has such wonderful variety.
I had to make two u-turns to finally get to the entry driveway and thought that probably showed a little desperation, but I ignored that warning feeling. I was too excited.
It so rare that I have any extra money - the stars were aligned - I had cash. So, I wandered through the store for almost 2 hours. (My Dh can't believe that I can spend that much time in one store.) I looked at every single little thing. I dreamed and checked prices on dozens of items I would love to have.
This is what happened:
So many items cried out for me to take them home. New towels and sheets. I have enough towels and sheets but they are getting old. So many new items I could get for my kitchen (of which I have two already at home). A beautiful colored glass pie plate for $2.99. That's only THREE DOLLARS. I have at least 5 glass pie plates. The store had so many lovely cups and glasses. But, we only use two cups and two glasses. A huge fancy crockpot I wanted so desperately because my crockpot handle broke off and it's hard to use. But, it works.
They had colored bowls and cookwear pans. All of a sudden my stuff at home felt shabby and old. Still useful, but I needed NEW. It was a real battle not to get them all. I even put some in my basket and had to tell myself I could come back tomorrow if I still wanted them. It really made me sad to leave them behind.
I DID find - wire tomato cages that were 70% less than the greenhouse's. I got some of those. Some cheap pink and white glad bulbs because I just couldn't part with them. Two very cheap throw rugs for the back porch because the rugs in there are ruined. Two new hand towels and two bamboo cutting boards because my new kitchen deserves to have something new. (That's not my fault. haha)
Now that I am home, I still have that stinging feeling of missing out. But, I also still have some extra money in my account and it's already the 29th. That feels really good - for a change.

purpleangel, a saying I ran across a long time ago helped me when I started examining my excessive acquisitions. I don't remember the original author; this is how I remember it: "You can never get enough of what you don't really want." All those cute and new home things will only be a poor substitute for what you want now: a new, functioning kitchen, a clean, clear, functioning home..etc. They might satisfy for a little while, but like a band-aid, will wear off. You were good and brave to leave them in the store for now.

Acquisitions update:
Have been wearing the cushy pullover after shower while I sit up in bed listening to music or some such. What a useful top! I love it.
Wore the new-to-me corduroy pants yesterday. Fit great, comfortable, high waist so no gap. The pockets are deep and also wide, the type that go all the way from side seam to zipper seam so the contents are secure.
Also wore the new underwear yesterday, will have to throw out an older pair today.
Hooray!
My nice yarn acquisitions of last month..have patterns chosen for those skeins now. I think I will start with the turquoise skein first.

Aiming for a getting a magic feather duster FOR SURE this time at BB&B..little thrills, eh?
Bizarre limited choices in our remote coastal town, several tourist 'spendy' type old town "Irish Linen shop" and other unaffordable stuff, and 37 thrift stores for the dead broke among us.
I AM going to get the SHARK Rotator vac soon!!! even taped a 30 min infomercial hahahaah so I am dang serious.... will use a Kohl's sale for that, usually a 30% off deal or just wait til I can order a 'spending card" from my CC points (since I rarely fly I use them for everything else) I will get 2, value $100 each..real money..so I can get a $250. item for ZERO.
One year I got all my clothes there- from undies to slippers, gloves, plus, popcorn popper, toaster, spatulas, tea towels and such for nothing. but it took a long time to build up that value being retired now.
PurpleAngel... getting FRESH NEW unstained tea towels and kitchen linens, tossing pot holders with burn holes..makes me FEEL like a better housekeeper..so they are worth the $$$ for psych value.
_______________ I have been so frustrated at times in stores that I will abandon a loaded cart, and an hour+ of time and leave... Once JCP screwed up royally, sent everyone a big discount card, I actually PRE-shopped!!! the day before, plotting my haul, then spent 2 solid hours in the store, and was TURNED DOWN FLAT at the register after being in line with 95 others with loaded carts....because our zip code should NOT have gotten them!!! our JCP was already an end of line outlet...a lot of angry women ranting that day!!!
I walked away from good deals..and that was stupid. I could have chosen at least some of the items.

went to the goodwill (salvation army?) Saturday in search of jeans for my son. I found jeans and a pretty pyrex casserole dish (and lid) no chips. It is the 60's/70's green with little white flowers/design. $3 or $4.
that was all. I was impressed I did not leave with more.

ohblondie- pretty pyrex casserole dish (and lid)
I have a white square one, blue flowers, simple, and find I use this thing constantly when steaming veggies in the microwave..... if I make several cups at once I have something to reach for that is cooked already..NO PREP. Almost gave it away, but better than the pyrex pie baking dishes I never used and donated.
