angela ~ David Copperfield is the loveliest book, so insightful and deeply moving and funny too. ohblondie ~ I had that same trouble in high school from being force-fed Jane Austen before I was mature enough to understand her relevance to my own life. Only decades later did I finally read her again and come to love her. As for Dickens... somehow I only saw movies of a few (Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist), without ever reading them. Then just 3 years ago I started reading his contemporaries, especially Wilkie Collins and Elizabeth Gaskell (LOVE them both). And I went to the Dickens Fair... that was a major eye-opener! Now I understand! Also recommended: a fascinating film directed by and starring Ralph Fiennes as Dickens... "The Invisible Woman"... about his tragic secret love affair with Ellen Tynan. It clearly shows how important, influential, and beloved a figure he was, the pre-eminent writer and social activist of his era.

ohblondie, I have no idea if those pants are still available. I bought them new at least 5 or 6 years ago. You might try looking online. My body shape is stick insect, so I also have trouble finding a good fit. My pants are always falling down & I'm always hiking them up - unless I wear a belt.

sue5000..I checked the label of my pants last night. 64% cotton 30% rayon 6% spandex or something like that. So comfy I wore them again today! angela it is important that time in the day is allotted for creating beauty. Knitting, crocheting, crafting, whatever. This brings a sense of peace and acomplishment to my day as I am sure it does to others as well. Last night I doscovered a sweater that I had knit years ago. I dont know if I could ever wear it but i remember such pride in completing it!!

One pre-owned pair of bluish green ostrich skin POINTY toe STILETTO boots. HOT! On sale for very good price.
Now these probably count as a one of those "for the life I don't lead" things but they are a work of art, I am in awe how fabulous they are, and it's rare something makes me feel that way these days. So I decided I need them in my life.
I do have plans to wear them out on my friend's birthday later this month, and then on my birthday next April. I can't imagine where I'd wear them in between now and then.
I'll put them on display for the 363 days a year I'm not wearing them.
Sorry no pics. They didn't fit. I decided since they didn't fit ( too tight in the instep) I couldn't keep them, as I'm trying to keep only things that I will use, even if only once or twice a year. Boo hoo. It was hard sending them back. They were pretty and oh so cool and I was planning to keep them on exhibit on the stairs.
I did get a pair of expensive Red Engine Jeans for $20 that fit perfectly and look almost like new.

I'm now the proud owner of matching service for 6! Hubby and dd asked what I wanted for mother's day and I picked dishes, found a few patterns I liked, narrowed it down to 2 and said surprise me. They came yesterday and I feel like such a big girl, all my dishes match and I have a pattern, country cottage by corelle! This was a total replacement purchase, bu-bye ugly mismatch plates and plastic bowls. Next up real glass glasses or matching silverware All part of my quest to get rid of my "it'll do for now" things and replace them with ones I truly like because I deserve to like what I own.

I bought a storage building today, some tools, some smaller oven proof casserole dishes and a hand quilted quilt. The storage building will be installed at the farm, where I intend on making it into a little room to stay overnight if I feel like it. I'm planning on putting insulation and some kind of wall board and some cheap vinyl flooring to make it warmer in winter.

Visited a coleague at her new flat and brought home a beautiful tin box and a thyme plant which I have already put it in a pot.
She also gave me another tea caddy and a little wooden owl I will use as presents.

omg ohblondie!! HOW do you lose a pair of pants?? Anyway, I just came here to tell you.... I just got another pair of black slacks. More of a summer weight fabric. I LOVE them even more than the first pair! The tag says 'Dockers' and if you look more closely it also says Levi Strauss in small print. I didn't know anyone made pants this comfy!!! They have some polyester in them and mine are a flare leg. My other ones were too warm, but these are nice and cool! I hope you can find a pair of these!

lucie, you're not going to believe this, but I collect teapots, tin boxes, and owls. And some of the seeds I planted a few weeks ago are thyme! I want them to grow between the stones in my stone path.

Nice find on the pants sue5000. I have some owl things I was thinking of releasing. For a little while there I was being gifted these things since I'd had owls come down my chimney. People thought I was the owl whisperer. My recent acquisitions: A pair of light weight fabric pants for barn and outside work. Only $3 at VV. REALLY deep pockets. They are a touch large at the waist so I might move the button so I don't have to hike them as much. But I am glad they are high waisted. No gap-o-sis in the back. In the same shopping trip, another pashmina style shawl. I have quite the collection of these. I wear them all the time in the fall, winter, and spring and I have a whole wardrobe of colors. I find them to be wonderful for warmth and to show off bold necklaces. The one I bought is a spring-y green. Very pretty and in perfect condition. I wore the peachy-pink one I got a couple of days ago and it looked great. I love the color. Also paid retail for Pam Young's (Slob Sister) newest book. I love her writing about SHE's and her very creative, loving, and positive ideas about how to live a clean and organized life while still allowing yourself to be spontaneous, creative, and resourceful. To me, buying her book retail helps her continue her work. And I've gotten so much benefit from what she does.

"People thought I was the owl whisperer." Cool! angela, what kind of owls came down your chimney? Saw whets? How did you discover them? What did you do to get them back outside? I love owls! All your new clothes sound very nice. I like your color palette. I'll have to look up "pashmina style shawl."

I want them to grow between the stones in my stone path. Of course I believe you! I try not to collect things, but I have my favourite owl statue on my bookshelffor more than 20 years - this one is for my distant niece, she loves owls very much. And I love all sorts of boxes, but try to limit the number I have, but the one I got is a must have. No teapot collection for me - I own just one. I love the taste of thyme in my cooking. Ok, ok, I do colect something - there are some books I would always bought again If I lost them. And I have just added one book to my collection - another book of Rangers Apprentice series. For free from the library discards.
