Times I had very little cash and there was no Dollar Store close by I would put in a small amount of any type of liquid soap that I had (usually it was dish detergent) and with food stamps I could buy baking soda so I would add baking soda. Everything still came out clean. I'm not recommending it just saying it worked in a pinch.

I'm curious if anyone with a large family has tried this. I have a huge backlog of laundry and I plan to do 4 loads a day to catch up, but I know that's going to feel like a big grind after not very long.

Hello @unbearablelightness,
Four loads a day...it can be done...I've done it, just to catch up. I had to make room in closets and drawers just to get everything put away. I also started a donation bag and gave away stuff because everything wouldn't fit.

I did that once rather recently - tookk everything in large black garbage bags and ran them through. It ended up being 20 loads and I still wasn't caught up. That was such a ridiculous ordeal that I'm not really keen on repeating it. I started out with the mini-load thing by putting just our king-size sheets in the wash with nothing else. That is perfect for a small load (our washer fills to the half-way mark on a small load). I need to get the previous load out of the dryer and then I will continue with small loads and see how it goes.

That's great, outfromundah! It sounds like a perfect solution for you, saves money and time.
How do you dry your laundry? Thinking you don't have an exterior clothes line in an apartment, and I love to hear how people handle situations. We are a crafty, wily bunch.
