Oh the door's beautiful, I can just imagine how much brighter the room must be. You never did say what they did about the broken part--was it easy to fix? Or did they have to buy a new door?

They had to order a new door. So i spent several days with a hole that was boarded up with plywood. The room was pitchblack at noon!!
I will need to get vertical blinds,

Wow, ohblondie, the door is beautiful! And congratulation on getting out so many bags of clothes! I did the first step today: I painted the bathroom ceiling (just white). The paint was really good, no splashing. I used the remaining paint to paint the walls, too, so that I'll need only one coat of the final color. Now I'm committed! Of course I'll have to buy the paint first, but I have to wait anyway: I'll have to put masking tape on spots which I've painted today, and I can't do this too soon because then the new paint peels off (ask me how I know ). I see some backache coming ...

Yay, you've started! You are brave. (I'm still afraid of painting.)

I'm updating this list since I finished the pantry food and badly need to see something crossed off a list! I feel like I'm not getting anything done the last few days.
Stationery items are partly done, in fact, I'm more than half done with those. The paper files seem to be something I've worked on a little here and there all summer. That's not a category that will be completely finished this summer, but I will try to work some more on it. That leaves clothing and decorative items. I really don't have that many of each of these categories, but I also am not clear about what I do have/want to keep so they might not be as straightforward as the others.
I'm going to try to finish the office supplies at the beginning of next week.
1 Kitchen stuff 2 Files of paperwork
3 Holiday items
4 Pet supplies 5 Decorative items/gifts 6 Clothing
7 Hardware/household 8 Stationery & office supplies
9 Pantry-food
10 Books – Fiction Series
11 Books—Fiction Non-Series
12 Books—Non fiction

On my list:
I have cleared the clutter behind the island as the door is there and everyone can see the crap. So I had to deal. Some is in the LR. Some got tossed and some got put away. I am strategizing new home for recycle bins and dog food and such.
Daughter moved out. So I have her closet for my off season clothes. I am also taking out her full bed and putting in a day bed. THe room will be the sewing/craft and Partylite candle room. This will eliminate clutter in my room, the LR and DR and basement.
I have given up on the yard. hubby has so much stuff in the yard that my son cannot mow around it. And I cannot get back to the weeds to keep pulling them. He doesn't see the pile of lumber or the railing posts or the bucket of screws. He only sees the one umbrella I cannot carry and the tall greass. Hmmmm.. selective vision?

Hi I have a ton of stuff to get done this Summer too and thought I would stop by and help motivate others and getting working on my stuff. ellen I was looking at the pictures you just posted and that is a beautiful cat laying on the cat carrier. My cat has a carrier like that. I put a small litter box in the back (sideways) and a small bed in the front sideways and it makes a little cat hotel for him when we travel. Kitty cannot make it to the end of the drive way without having to visit the litter box (nervous car rider). My Summer goal - over arching to get my house ready for my adopted niece to come stay with me for a couple of days. My house is so so right now and nothing to write home about. This is how the clutter in my house makes me feel

I have cleared the clutter behind the island as the door is there and everyone can see the crapWell there you go, all we have to do is put some extra windows in, and we'll feel compelled to clean up! I'm sure you'll miss your daughter, but it's great that you'll have some extra space. TML, great to see you here! When will your niece be coming? Do you need to declutter or just clean? (JUST clean...this coming from the queen of cleaning avoidance.) You know what I mean. I'm just about done with my office supplies, I decided I needed to pull that box out of my closet to see what was in there, and I was able to get rid of almost half of it, the rest fit into the other designated office supply areas! So one fewer box in my closet. I really do have more space designated for office supplies than I should, but they ARE one of my favorite items. I think I'll be able to refine things a bit more in the future, but I'm okay with where I am with them for now. Diane

More work on the kitchen last night. Dealt with more clutter. Washed dishes. Steam cleaned the floor. Even the nasty area under the front of the stove and by the fridge. De-cluttered the fridge. THREE GARBAGE BAGS of declutter! My daughter was known for bringing home leftovers from eating out. Everytime I tried to toss something I would hear "THat's mine - I am going to eat it". I threw out two half subs, three large styrofoam containers, one small, 5-6 yougurts, etc..... What a waste of food! Island is piled with stuff - UGH. But most of it is there temporarily (dishes that were drying and will be put away today). Hubbys box is still in the middle of the floor. I thought if it was out in the open in the middle of the floor he would see it and deal with it. NOT..... Slowly chipping away at the piles.....

Ohblondie, I hope you're enjoying your trip this week!
Well, I tried to find an excess of decorative items/gifts, but I think I dealt with most of that while going through other categories (so many of my storage places had multiple categories in them). I've looked around a few times now and can't find anything else in this category. Although, while looking, I did discover some more office supplies--I got rid of about 2/3 of them and put the other 1/3 away with the other stuff.
I also have looked through my clothing again, my main reason for putting clothing on this list was to figure out a place to put things that I've worn once and can wear again, or the items I wear over and over again that are clean and I don't want to put away in a closet. I put a small stand near my bedroom door which has solved this problem. So, after getting rid of a few more things the other day, I don't think there's much more to do with my clothing.
That leaves only my paper files, which I've been working on a little at a time. Cleaning out the old work stuff was a major job that I hadn't planned to do, but that resulted in an additional 1/2 drawer being available for my other paper. I do have files that can be checked for out of date stuff to purge, I never seem to be able to do that for hours in a row though, so I think I'll continue working at that for 15 minutes at a time until the end of summer.
It feels weird to think I'm almost done, especially because I'm not sure I accomplished what I intended to at the beginning of the summer. I thought I would choose how much space I wanted to give to each category, and then purge to fit. The only categories I really did that with was my own books! The other stuff was purged and I did get rid of a lot, but I don't feel like I pared down the amount to fit somewhere.
Maybe this is the best I can do for now, when I look around, what is still cluttering up the place is books--but it's books to sell, and some books that I'm saving to trade. I'm working on increasing the number of hours I'm spending on my "book job", which involves looking up my books online to see if they're worth anything, judging what condition they're in, and then listing them. Not doing this is not an option, since any source of income right now is desperately needed. So...after all the books are listed (which won't happen quickly) they will still sit around waiting to see if they sell. But, all of the books I have left will not be able to be listed, so some will go.
While the sale books are still here, I don't know if I have a clear idea whether or not I still have too much stuff. As we've been talking about on this site, we're never "done", it's an ongoing process. So all categories will be revisited at some future time.

Gret job on your summer goals, dtesposito! You have done a lot even if it does not seem enough for you now. But decluttering is like an onion, you take off layers so you will see what happens when you do a next round.
