I'll be using a hybrid of ideas from Diane's Summer Goals Thread, BetsyMarie's Weekly Commitment Thread, Clearance's 365 Thread (Modified), & Eliminator's 55-Day Push (now 50) thru to Labor Day.
Here's my 'homogenized' version of the above threads:
I will make a concerted effort to accomplish 80 hours by Labor Day. That's ~ 8 weeks away (55 days). I will aim to hit ~ 10 hrs/week for the next 8 weeks for a total of at least 80 hrs. & will track my progress.
Feel free to jump in & join me for the next ~ 55 day (8 week) push 'til Labor Day!
You may make your own 8 week goal, just List Your Goal & Go For It!
Let's make this a 'host yourself' thread so please try to acknowledge the person who posted above you, thanks!
Now Let's Go!
This challenge ends Labor Day 9/1!

Yes & no, when I went thru the Buried in Treasures self-quiz, it identified me as a severe emotional hoarder.
That is why I have postponed this duty, but like Di's thread, sadly the effects of the elements will have helped make up many of the decisions for me.
This was on my list a few years ago, but even then it made me far too sad. Perhaps now enuff time has elapsed-- we'll see . . .

I apologize. I did assume it was emotionally-charged - so I thought you'd feel great getting it finalized? ....you won't feel good DOING it, but you'll feel relief after it's done. Still sad; but refief. It's not making you feel so good sitting out there. But, I do understand-- I've got my own to conquer. You know what to do and you'll do it when you can. I'm really sorry.

It's okay The Eliminator. I know to approach it slowly & carefully & monitor my anxiety so that it doesn't drag me down into another multi-month down & out SOS avoiding depression. Tics, stutter, hyperventilation & crying 'til I gag aren't pretty! It's obviously not the 1st project I'll be trying to tackle! Kitchen tiles mean there are only 4 - 13x13 kitchen tiles that are clearly visible. The others are suffering from 'severe encroachment' as a goat trail! I want to be able to use my Floor Mate in there again!

so that it doesn't drag me down into another multi-month down & out SOS avoiding depression. Sounds very familiar! .... today has been one month straight that I've actually gotten out of bed each day. It's a 10-year record! I keep wondering why, and how long will it last? But I'm going with it, and doing as much as I can, while I can before the next bummed-out funk takes me under! I'm hoping to see more of my kitchen floor tomorrow, too -- I think you're already ahead of me!

Exactly, The Eliminator! That has been my SOS history too, but the best part is we keep coming back & trying what works & changing things up if it doesn't to make forward progress while we can! SOS Sisyphus Sistahs who will eventually emerge VICTORIOUS!

Sidestep, I love this. I'm going to join you here doing a certain number of hours on my book job between now and Labor Day. I haven't been working at all on it so I need a push. I'll decide how many hours, it won't be anywhere near 80, but it'll be at least 20. I have a suggestion (don't I always have a suggestion?) about your dad's stuff. If a lot of time goes by and you can't bring yourself to tackle it, how about getting another storage item (like a plastic bin) and transfer the items inside the dresser into it, so you can get rid of the dresser. I know it sounds counter-intuitive to suggest just replacing one storage item with another, but maybe if you handled what's in it once, without the need to get rid of it right now, you won't be dealing with all of the intensity at once. You might find things that you can let go of immediately, and then later have to deal with a smaller number of items. Or, this first step is the first "pass" and each one will get easier. Or, if you feel that would just prolong the emotional aspect, then ignore this altogether! I've found that when I just can't get started on a category, it helps to just commit to neaten up the pile by going through it--that breaks the barrier I have because it helps me look at the project as a series of steps, not something I have to do all at once. Once I start neatening up, some things are easy to get rid of, and at the very least, I have a neater pile! Diane

The dresser is shot-- the tarp rotted off it long ago, & it crumbled/rotted. I'm willing to bet the contents of the fallen in drawers are beyond salvagable. So, as mentioned, that part will make this easier. Why did this happen-- 'cuz of my SQUALOR back then when I was still deep in grief & I didn't get around to getting my garage door pulleys fixed in time to store it in my garage! I'm happy to report that is one of the 1st things I had fixed after I found this place in '09. Part of that was 'cuz that made easy access for ratties into my garage. Now I suspect the odd one gets in thru the exterior dryer duct. If one does, he will see what happened to his unfortunate brutha! ~~~ See Diane, that one is still there only to serve as a lesson to his siblings!

I have lots of boxes/bins/bags of misc junk throughout my house. I just set a goal this morning to go through and eliminate 2 boxes per week. I hope to have 50 boxes gone by Christmas/New Years. That's 16 boxes by labor day.
