The following study has been approved to be posted by the Admins.

You are invited to participate in a research study about hoarding, conducted by Brianna D. Mann, M.A., a graduate student, and Brian Vandenberg, Ph.D., a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Your answers will be completely confidential. The study will take between 30-60 minutes and will involve completing a series of short questionnaires and computer tasks assessing your demographic information, experiences with hoarding, creativity, and decision making. If you choose to participate, you will be entered into a raffle for an iPad.
You are eligible if you
Are 18 or older, AND
Can read and write in English, AND
Think (or know) you might be a “hoarder”, “pack rat”, “clutter bug”, or “clutterer”
You are NOT eligible if you:
Think (or know) you might have obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Hear voices or have ever been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder (e.g., schizophrenia).
Have had a traumatic brain injury (TBI)
Have dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease
If you would like to participate and are eligible, please send an email to brim2003@gmail.com, with the word, hoarding, in the subject line. Sorry, I'm not eligible, having had a TBI in 2001. But I was a harder before then.

To the group that designed this study, the format - trying to get to the survey - is way too complicated.
I will give it another attempt or two but I think the way this is set up may be discouraging to would-be participants.

Thanks for the heads-up, dayeanu. sparkle It may be because I am trying to do it on a mobile device and not a regular computer. I have emailed them, asking for help.

Ok, here's the update. "It works best on a PC, not a phone, tablet, or Mac."
So probably if you're using a PC, you will not have any problem.

Hi all! I noticed that quite a few have been having problems. It is complicated to get into the study. This is a result of requirements for copyright protection on questionnaires and the limitations of the technology available to collect data in such a complex way. The program developers were not forthcoming about its limitations and assured me that it would handle the study I proposed, and as a result, we've found out the hard way that it is problematic. Unfortunately, this is the only option right now for running the study and I apologize in advance for the frustration it might cause. I've been working for two years to get it fixed, and haven't gotten very far with the developers. If you do have problems, would you be willing to let me know specifically what the problem is and I will email the IT people to see if they are willing/able to fix the specific issue? Also, the developers tell me that it will only work on a PC, not a tablet, phone, or Mac product. At one point, we made changes so that it would run on a Mac, but it ended up causing other issues, so we had to change it back. Again, I'm really sorry. It's been really frustrating on my end too, because I am now in danger of not completing my dissertation in time for graduation. Thank you for your help and patience! -Brianna

It is my feeling that if someone is willing to dedicate years of their life studying hoarding in the interest of better understanding and helping us, as this person has, we could make an effort to help by completing the survey if possible.
To that end, I'd like to encourage those of us who don't have other computing options to go to our local libraries and use the computer and free Wi-Fi there.

To get the word out to more potential participants, you might want to contact Corey Chalmers at Steri-Clean in California, he helped develop the A&E show Hoarders. His company website is www.steri-clean.comCorey has an online hoarding support group live every Sunday night, that could help spread the word. Edited to add I did survey but at end it got stuck on one page, I finally did the control q think then it told me I was done? I never did see any demographic questions re age, gender. I can try it later at home, the computer at work has a blocking program that might have been triggered by something.

Brianna did already try on Cory's website. My hoarder could not participate due to his TBI.
