People are making progress! I've been missing my bedtime goal *most* of the time, but I keep getting up at 6:00 or 7:00 most of the time, too. I wonder if the dose of light in the morning helps me stay up. My general pattern is much, much better than it was. I still think I'm not getting quite enough sleep, and should get to bed earlier at least some nights.

Slept at 1 something after doing inside of refrigerator, rinsing dishes, loading dishwasher, cleaning containers that held old food, packaging food properly, taking out the trash. Still awoke at 7:40 a.m.
My body is used to a certain wake up time. I am still somewhat tired but I will stay up and nap later.

Crawled back to bed at 8:45 and dozed. I couldn't go to sleep so rested, kids watched TV with very little squabbling. In bed after doing homework till 11:45 or so got up and moving...took kids to party, bought gift partied. Came home studies, swept, loaded dishwasher, fed cats and cleaned litter. Cleared dining room table. In bed 12:34 p.m.

great thread larataylor. I've been reading it for a while. My aim continues 8 hours in bed. A new criterion :- to count 8 hrs from lights out to feet on the floor. If I fall asleep with the light on, then I'll attempt at a guess. I can't control how long I sleep, but its up to me to be allowing sleep to happen as if it could. That's the part I could have self control over. I want to guess at my sleeping hours, though there can be a some dipping in and out of sleep as well. 6 hours sleep is a great night for me - but I really need more. I aim for 12am lights out, 8am rise, to eventually tweak to consistently 11 pm - 7am. I'll clock time of rising like others here do. Some days I need to be somewhere at 8.30 so there is a push on those days. The date will be the morning's. Nov: 10 - : in bed = 8 hrs; from lights out = 6 hrs; sleep guess estimate = 4 hrs; rise = 8am.

If you struggle with falling asleep that way of thinking will create less pressure/stress to fall sleep on nights you can't. I also calculate my sleep from when I put my feet on the floor in the morning, so that I avoid snoozing too long. I'll cross my fingers for you! ME: Here are my results from the last 4 days...I've taken a few steps back+ stagnated a bit, but I'm NOT even disapointed at myself, in fact I'm pleased beacause it could be soooo much worse, because I was sick this weekend... - Friday, November 7th: 09.20 am ( Amnesty due to illeness/needing beautysleep for an important event, I deliberately put my alarm on 09.15 am. ) - Saturday, November 8th: 08.50 am 30 minutes improvement ) - Sunday, November 9th: 08.50 am same time, so neither improvement or deterioration) - Monday, November 10th: 08.38 am 12 minutes improvement )

I need to join Lara. I been doing research to break my insomnia because I too want a 6 to 10 life. I read about resetting my circadian rhythm with a 16 hour fast based on clinical studies, just figure out when you want to get up and do not eat 16 hours before that time then eat the moment you get up. They say it resets our internal clock. I am going to give it a try tomorrow, I will let you know how it went.

Got up at 7:00 … DD brought me coffee. DH is taking the car again today.
DD was in a panic trying to find her smiley-face leggings, which must be part of a dance costume, because she wears a uniform to school. We rummaged through Mount Washedmore, which has piled up since I've been concentrating on the basement. Finally I just took her to school. Came back and found the pants between the bed and the wall. Took them to school along with her lunch. Went to Wawa for a small half&half to get me through the day.
I was fully intending to go back to bed, but all this excitement has me wide awake now. Back to the basement!

Nov: 10 - : in bed = 8 hrs; from lights out = 6 hrs; sleep guess estimate = 4 hrs; rise = 8am. larataylor love the thread. wynken I like your plan to be in bed 8 hrs, whether you are sleeping the entire time or not. I rarely get 8 hrs actual sleep anymore since I hit my mid 40s a few yrs ago (hormones??). Rarely nap well anymore, either. Like you, 6 hrs sleep is a good nite for me, and with that I feel like I've had enough sleep, but I still like I need more like 8 hrs of horizontal In bed to feel RESTED. So I try to get in bed 2 hrs before I usually fall asleep and if I do that I'm good. The extra hrs have to be before I fall asleep because as soon as I wake up it's like the bed spits me out. I don't know what happened but when I was younger I could lounge and fall back asleep easily but not anymore. As soon as I wake up I am up. Most stuff I read about sleep hygiene has to do with setting things up so that you can fall asleep easily. My sleep hygiene practices are geared more towards making sure I don't wake up middle of the nite / very early morning because then it's near Impossible for me to get back to sleep Weird thing is I like getting up early these days, I don't even mind getting up at 4 am! I've has some amazing cleaning sessions lately before the sun is up. To sum it up as long as I'min bed for 8 hrs, with 6 hrs plus or minus of it sleeping, I'm pretty happy. But I've definitely struggled getting to this point of acceptance that 8 hr of actual sleep just ain't happening for me anymore.
