I failed when I tried this on my blog, so now I'm working at it off-blog, since I don't like to post failure after failure, day after day. larataylor, I wish you all success. I'll check back after 30 days from now to see how you're doing, and I hope you make your goal and maintain it. Good health and

I have my clothes ready for tomorrow and most the other odds and ends wrapped up. I am planning to go to bed at 10, right after my son's bedtime, because I'm tired and seem to have already accepted I won't be up late tonight.

I will try. I am night owl and go to be around 11 or midnight. On the weekends I sleep in and take an afternoon nap for about 45 minutes. I would like to be in bed by 10 and up at 6. Then I could do some yoga and some chores before going to work. I'll give it a try, but I may not report in all the time. Night time is the only time to do computer work or perhaps at 6AM - ummmm, a thought.

"Night time is the only time to do computer work or perhaps at 6AM - ummmm, a thought."
I find that I feel alert at this time, and the Internet connection is much faster. I used to stay up very late but get much more done by using the early morning energy. I feel ahead of the game. I do sometimes leave a few things undone at the end of the day because I feel very slow. I know I will zip through them early the next morning.

papermoon you can do it to, maybe you can aim at 12 - 8 am sleep at first and then move to 11 - 7? It would be reasonable for you, when you do not need to get up at 6am.

Success the very first night! I turned off the lights at 10:36, actually fell asleep and stayed asleep, and I think I'm feeling better this morning for it. I mean, in addition to the normal morning routine, (that is, moving along without conscious awareness) I decided to apply BB cream, blush, and lipgloss, and I styled my hair. (My hair is emanating a distinctive eighties vibe. Perhaps it's well-rested enough to assert itself, too. That was a pretty good decade for me, so I'm going with it. It's not pathetic or anything.) Assuming it took me around 20 minutes to fall asleep (that's my guess--obviously I can't fall asleep and run a stopwatch at the same time) then according to this sleep cycle calculator, I was either an hour late or half an hour early. Maybe there is something to the sleep cycle timing, because I was actually dreaming hard when the alarm went off at 5:30, and I was a bit disoriented for a moment on waking. But I can say I honestly prefer that to the half-awake twilight I've been calling sleep in recent years. It's been more like skipping stones across a lake than sinking in; light sleep peppered with repeating moments of awareness. I remember absolutely nothing about my sleep time last night. So I'm willing to concede Mom and Ben Franklin may have been on to something with their "early to be, early to rise" shtick.

I succeeded, too! I was in bed before ten, and turned the light off at 10:30. I think I took about 20 minutes to fall asleep. I was a little worried because I wasn't as sleepy as I had been earlier, but I guess I was still inside my window. Yay!
And this morning, it was easy to get up, and I don't feel foggy and groggy like I did yesterday.

I sometimes get into the habit of working late at night because nobody bothers me then. I was doing that last winter and spring when I was writing. I found that if I were working on the computer during the day, everybody interrupted me, but if I were sleeping, they left me alone. But I don't think that schedule is really healthy.
DH also works long into the night, saying that it's the only time people don't interrupt him. But I really don't want him sleeping all morning in the bedroom when I'm up and doing maintenance on the house. If I take the lead, though, he'll probably follow to some extent. If we stay up late together watching TV, then he will stay up *even later* working in his office. But if I go to bed at 10:00, he may quit at 12:00. And he doesn't need as much sleep as I do.
This morning a friend came over at 8:00, and I showed off my house. She was super impressed. We've cleaned together in the past, alternating between our houses, but haven't done it for a long time. She just came off a night shift, so she went home to bed after I showed off. Next week I'll go over and help her. She has six kids, farm animals, depression, and now she's working, too. I think she needs help more than I do!

lostchild - I usually can't change my schedule without depriving myself of sleep for one night. I've tried to move my bedtime / wakeup time a bit earlier each day, and I always mess it up. The challenge tonight will be getting to be early *without* being sleep-deprived.

I'm going to join in on this challenge. I am normally an early riser, but for some reason lately I have been going to bed later, and the last 2 weeks have had trouble getting up.
With a new job on the horizon, I need to get myself into better routines. I may work start at 9 AM - or I could finish at 9 PM. With that in mind, my plan is to go to bed by 10:30, sleep (I hope) by 11, alarm set for 7 AM. The other thing I need to do to be able to do this, is to eat an earlier supper. Aiming for 6:30 supper.

hollyhock - it helps a lot if I plan dinner earlier in the day, and make sure we have food! DD comes home from school hungry, and dinner can be at 6:00 if I have my act together. Then I have a bit of time with DH before bed. But now it's Friday … and DD will probably stay up or out late. I actually feel like taking a nap right now, but I'd better not.

I need to do this too.
I have found that just before bedtime, soaking in a hot bath with a cup of Epsom Salts tends to relax me and help me sleep better.
I'm aiming for 10:30 as my bedtime,

Grrrr. Too much going on this evening, being Friday and all. Took kids to McDonalds. Tried to get to sleep at 11:30, but I think I missed "the window." I made some chamomile tea, and will try again pretty soon. Couldn't find the melatonin.
