Has anyone else been suffering with bad dreams? Not nightmares where you are freaked out but just bad dreams. Last night I had a dream where I was being attacked in a restaurant by a dog and no one would help me. They tisked and muttered "poor girl" but no one helped me. I wasn't terrified, like CUJO or anything, in fact I was more upset with being surrounded by people not helping. I killed the dog in a grisly way (which wasn't frightening either for some reason as I am usually squeamish about those things) and everyone felt bad for THE DOG!
I still wake and sleep at the same times but these dreams have been persistent for the last few weeks, waking me up multiple times through the night. I am so exhausted.

Dit - I've never heard of anyone *using* niacin for the heat flush - That's a side effect that people complain about! I'm actually not a cold person now … when I was very thin in my 20s I got cold so easily, I wouldn't even eat ice cream. But now I'm often warmer than other people. No hot flashes, thank goodness … just overall warmer than I used to be. Mostly the problem is that it's really cold out, and there's no money to do various things I'd like to do about it. There are a few things I could do, though. DD has the electric heater in her room. I want to bubble wrap the big windows (cheap) and hang blankets over them with nails. We could bring in the kerosene heaters and use them to warm up one room at a time. I could hang blankets in doorways … the LR/DR area is the hardest/biggest to heat … it has the big windows. My bedroom is easiest to keep warm, but I'll get depressed if I hang out there all the time. I brought some blankets out to the LR, for when I'm sitting at the computer. Also, heat from the dryer is now going into the basement instead of outside … we have pantyhose over the pipe inside, but I need to seal up the hole in the wall better. When I use the oven, I leave it open afterwards to let that heat into the house. Anyway, maybe the cold will get me into bed earlier at night. There is a box that you can get at home depot that you can put on your dryer that you can direct the heat from your dryer in or out of your home. We have one and I love it mostly because it makes my house smell like a laundromat (I know..weird). The added benefit is that if you direct the heat from your dryer it actually adds moisture to your house (cold air is really dry) from your wet clothes while they are drying. We also do the open oven trick but we have to be careful with the little guy around. I also invested in hot water bottles for the beds. www.shtfblog.com/diy-window-quilt/sustainablog.org/2010/03/energy-saving-cheap-thermal-curtains/

desireelafleur - I found that box online, but didn't find it at the store. So we're using pantyhose for now! Yes, the box would look more tidy … eventually. The heat & humidity now vents into the basement, which I'm usually working to keep more *dry.* But the humidity may be good through the winter. I just have to keep an eye on it, and keep the balance right. Our oven is up on the wall, and I just leave it open a few inches. But I would be more careful with a little one in the house … I might not do that at all … or just while I was actually in the kitchen. I have a smooth, electric cooktop, and I always put a pan of water or the tea kettle on top of a hot burner while it cools down. This is mostly for the cats, who will jump onto any nice, clear surface, and wouldn't know it was hot until they landed on it. Thanks for the links! I plan to do something like this, soon. I've covered old comforters with thrift shop sheets or fabric before.

desireelafleur - weird dream. I hope it stops. I had two persistent, recurrent dreams until I moved out of my old house to here … then both stopped. I haven't remembered a dream for ages, and usually I only remember the ones that happen in the morning when I fall back to sleep.

Oh, dear. I got in bed with my book, but it was too exciting, and I was just finishing it when my 6:00 alarm went off. I'm not sleepy at all now. Maybe I'll take a nap around noon, and hopefully get to bed early tonight. And I'll have to find a new book.

I've done that a times Lara. I need a different sort of book to go to sleep with.

wynken - it's tough, though. It has to be good enough that I want to go to bed and read it … a good book is okay for a while, until it gets to that point where I can't put it down. Depends how sleepy I am, too. I did have some coffee at dinner last night. Many times I want to keep reading, but can't keep my eyes open, and last night that just wasn't happening.

The dryer box is a good idea, I have a humidifier on my furnace for the same reason. I am trying to keep my laundry room on the cool side so stopped any heat from going into it. As its also my pantry for my fermented food.
Woke at 8:30 bed at 3 am.

desireelafleur, I haven't had too many disturbing dreams lately though I am having vivid dreams. This is often due to a couple things for me. When I am getting truly rested I sleep lighter in the early morning and remember my dreams. Also when I am in a good, feet on the ground, daily routine, my dreams become more vivid. It seems I need a daily dose of flights of fancy and if I'm not spending my day escaping into TV or daydreaming or wandering around aimlessly, then my brain will get what it needs by vivid dreaming. Last night for me, turned off the TV at 10:00 even though The Wizard of Oz was on, went to bed and laid down flat, found a podcast about meditation, and promptly fell asleep. Slept straight through until 7:00 and got out of bed at 7:30, can you believe it? I've been noticing for myself how satisfying or not my evening activities are. And telling myself, if I'm too tired to do anything but mindlessly watch the TV, well just go lay down! If I'm really enjoying some recreation like a craft project or doing some good activity like decluttering or paperwork then fine, stay up a bit more, but if I'm tired by 9:00 and barely have gumption to get up from the couch, well then sleep is the priority. I can go to bed at 9:00 if I need to!

Lara - I don't know if its the differences in me or the book that sometimes lets me read 10 min, then sleep (Hopefully without the book hitting me in the face, or waking confused with light and glasses still on hours later.), or the content grabs my mind and I have a need to read it to the end if I could overnight. It has me realise I also need to read in the daytime, and not, and whether its a book I can put down, or not.
If I don't sleep for long enough I have awake dreams, also known as weird fantasies, or there is the other name for them I prefer not to use.
Yesterday I napped, then read a while. Last night - bed at 12.30, read, sort of woke at 12.05 to switch off light. I'd been awake a while when I looked at the clock at 5. rose ?before 7. counting yesterdays rest as part of the days rest.

I read with a flashlight … actually I found some little book lights in the hoard, and I want to check them out and see if they work. I also read without glasses … my up-close vision is good without glasses. I try to keep the rest of the house dark so I get sleepy, and then just flick off the flashlight and leave flashlight and book in my bed.

Woke easily this morning at 7-ish. Slept through but woke with numb arms, tells me I've got impingement again in my neck and shoulders. Have new pillows now in addition to my golden yellow sheets. Much better than my flat, hard old pillows. I still have them on the bed and will use them for holding up my arms when I lay on my side. 9:35 now. Will finish posts here then lay down.
