Some of you may recall my story; I'm in my late 20s, my parents and I moved into my grandmother's (cluttered) house 10 years ago and we've made several attempts to declutter in the last few years. We've made a few big steps, some not so big. Today, we made the biggest step yet: WE GOT THE ENORMOUS OLD TV OUT. My grandparents bought this TV in the 80s, I don't know exactly when. It's wood, heavier than crap, and just massive. It hasn't worked for years. I honestly never ever thought we'd get it out. Today, WE GOT IT OUT. Tomorrow, some people from the neighborhood cleanup organization are coming to take it (and a bunch of broken microwaves and other appliances) away. FOREVER AND EVER AND EVER. It'll cost money (about $150) but I DON'T CARE I want to cry, I'm so happy that *** thing is finally gone. It was the bane of my existence for years.

Hurray Celly! I think that was a called console television in the 70's and early 80's. It went along with and matched the HiFi system in the wooden cabinet that everyone had to have. Good times.

on getting this stuff out. I'm sure it will make a huge difference in your home, and probably in your outlook. Here's hoping it's a new beginning for you!

Getting rid of such things is well worth the money. I used to be able to have a few big items collected free, but now my local council charges. Commercial companies cost a lot more than the council does, so really I am lucky. I had an old sofa bad that took up a lot of space, and I was so happy to see it finally go.
Those old TVs can be monsters: it is amazing how light they are now.

Good for getting that BIG console TV item out!!
I had a huge wall mirror, for a dining room, etc big and.very heavy took two or three people to carry it. ! I had this mirror leaning against - not attached to - the wall in my spare room for more than 5 years. In the way didn't want it on the wall. Good condition though. Called a lot of local charities in the area and NO ONE would take it. But finally I found one that did . St. Vincent DePaul. Two guys carried that big heavy mirror slowly out to the truck. GONE!! Hope you can get rid of the other things too [/font]

I hate huge, heavy things! I never had a TV like that, but I've had two sofa beds. Hard to move, hard to clean under, hard to get rid of. Ugh.
I'm so happy for you!

If you guys are looking to get rid of old appliances I have had a lot of luck on craigslist. Simply list your item that has metal and say free scrap. Scrap collectors will take almost anything that has metal in it, especially defunct fridges, microwaves, and lawn mowers. You may be able to get rid of an old sofa bed that way...worth a shot. Usually you would have to pay at the dump to get rid of these things. Scrap people save you the trip and the cost.

So happy for you! On a similar note, all my old TVs and computer parts are now in a dumpster in my driveway. They're coming tomorrow to haul everything away! It's like having a thousand pound weight removed from my chest!

My friend's mother is a hoarder in a small home. Her console tv was broken. The family bought a new smaller nicer model. The mother put the new tv on top of the old tv. And wouldn't let the family throw out the huge ugly console.
Congratulations on your big triumph.
