I love tickers, one of these days I'll try one for something! I finished another "room", my computer desk. I have my two desks as separate rooms/areas on my decluttering list since they're such messy places. I went through everything on the desktop and the only things on there now are things I use regularly, or my current projects/things to do, which are neatly corralled in a desk tray. I love when my desk is neat, it seems I can think more clearly! I seem to be doing the easiest rooms, and the reason for it is that the harder rooms are messy because of books, which are the hardest. But, I do still have 7 weeks left. Diane

I'm going to join in if you don't mind. See if I can find my motivation somewhere. My goal by January is to be able to open my front door all the way when someone knocks. Not just enough for me to peek through. To accomplish my goal I'll have to clean the front door walkway, behind the front door, living room, (finish the) Dining room, under the long bartop, and on top of the bartop. If I get those done I'll be starting on the kitchen.

Hello dread--happy to see you here! Opening the front door without worrying about what people will see behind you is a great goal! My entryway is newly cleaned out and every time I come in the door I feel happy, just seeing the lack of STUFF there. You can do it!

Our front door opens directly into our sitting room, which then acts like a hall and has all the other downstairs rooms and the stairs leading off it. Does make it tricky sometimes to feel good about opening the door. Good goal though dreaded.
And Diane, woohoo, you are on fire!

Great work everybody! I'm going to jump right in (just like I've been here the whole time.) There is an underlying force for me to get things in order or reach a goal for the holidays or end of the year. I don't know if it is the impending cold weather (don't boo me too bad I'm in Pensacola,Fla.) or just get things as good as possible for the new year. At any rate, I'm definitely rolling up my sleeves. Today I'm going to clean out and organize my linen closet. The key thing for me is to really be straight with myself about what I am using and what is just bulk. The closet is stuffed and falling out of there. It is not good visually or functionally. Ps ..another good thing about this end of the year thing is that you can collect more receipts for donations and take it off of your taxes for 2014

Howdy def! Cleaning out my linen cabinet was the very first job that SOS inspired me to do, when I first joined!! Good luck purging those extra sheets!

Hello Diane Congrats for achieving so much through perseverance. I know you are on cloud 9. I "go through" this closet at least 2 times per year but it quickly becomes a unruly monster. That indicates to me that it needs less items to begin with. I have parted with 2 bags worth so far.

I want to clean out all of my food cabinets and closet tomorrow. Just take all of the food out and check expiration dates. I'll donate all food that we won't eat... yet not expired.

How is everyone doing? I've neglected my goal during the last few days but am ready to work on it today--I have three light days of paid work in a row now so have no excuse not to get back on track. Today I have to tackle the stray books that are where they don't belong. That will make the single biggest difference to a couple of rooms. Diane

I'm not even sure if I've posted here before … der. But my end-of-year goal is to have my basement cleared out and clean. Except for DBIL's corner … I try not to be too annoyed by that "exception" which I don't have a lot of control over. I have a bit more control over DH's corner. It's a good, spacious set-up now, with room for the things he needs, and space for making videos, so he doesn't have to bring photo stuff upstairs to make a video. He is still a bit resistant, but as long as I'm alive and kicking, I will not let his clutter get out of control again. And his resistance is not so strong now that he is living with the benefits. I have pretty free rein over the rest of the space. Some of it will be storage, but I keep paring things down to what I really, really, really want to keep, and I want a lot of clear, open space, too. The big freezer. The exercise bike and the TV to watch while riding it. Well-organized hobby stuff, and a table for working on hobbies. Dormitory for teen sleepovers. That will take up a lot of room, but some of the beds can move back to the sun room and addition when weather warms up again. And maybe they will stay. Next winter this may not be happening anymore. (mixed feelings).

Lara, you must have a huge basement to fit all of that down there! Iprocrastinate, be ruthless when getting rid of things. Keep a mental picture of how you want your rooms to look when they're done, and keep reminding yourself it will be the reward for getting rid of the stuff. If it's just sitting around and you're not using it, you don't need it, right? Wouldn't you rather have a remodeled area with new flooring and new furniture?? Diane

Trying to stay on task but I get distracted easy. So far I've gotten the couches usable. They will have to be replaced due to rips from dogs. But that will have to wait. Today I'm working on the front coat closet. Which currently has NO coats in it and the door won't close due to stuff.

Hi dread, sounds like you've come to the challenging part. My closets are mostly full of things that are not clothing too, but then, I have almost no clothing! It's the only area of my life where I'm a minimalist. (Unless you count things like jewelry and makeup, of which I have none...) What kind of things do you have in the closet?
My current phase of decluttering is stalling because the book decisions are so hard. I did all the easy ones, now I'm on the really difficult stuff. But I will persevere.
Diane
