Scooped and cleaned poop off floor. DH misunderstood, and bought the same darn litter that she hates. Crap.

Bought some new litter to cover up the bad stuff. This is an unscented, clumping litter like I'd wanted. I also bought an old slotted spoon to lift the big clumps out, so they don't break apart, or the lightweight pooper scooper I'm using.

desireelafleur - you're right … you need *at least* three … and maybe more. I just scooped for the second time today. Leaving the boxes uncovered is working well for me … I see it and I scoop it. I have five boxes for four cats, but I'd like a few more, actually. Like one in the garage, one in the basement, and one in the sun room. The cats are not supposed to be in the garage or basement, but sometimes they go there and I can't catch them, and I'll just wait until they're ready to come back. And sometimes I forget … and someone pooped in a clutter box in the garage. I wouldn't check those boxes every day, but it would be good to have them there. And two cats kept peeing in a cubbyhole at the bottom of the bathroom closet. I put a litter box there, and now we're okay. It's not always up to the humans to decide how many is enough and where they should be! Remember, we're servants, not owners! Someone just peed over the back of the shallowest box onto the wall. Argh. I sprayed it with vinegar and wiped it up, and I'll douse the area with pet odor spray after that dries. At least I *notice* accidents these days.

Scooped, and cleaned up daily poop on tiles. WTH!?! New litter, so clean, so deep...I'm going to put a kitty diaper on her if this keeps up. I don't understand what she's try to tell me: she's peeing in it, her poop is healthy, why why why is she messing outside the box *now* when I've just started treating it with respect? She used to poop on top of poop without a problem, and now she won't use the box at all! Whaaaa!!!

Hey cyn. Have you tried setting up a second box, placed next to the first one? I've read that some cats are particular and like to pee in one, poop in another. If that doesn't work you might want to take her to the vet, and take a stool sample in a baggy, to rule out any medical condition.

I think I have to put the ugly shelf back over her litterbox. That's when she started pooping on the floor, and this is a lose/lose situation right now. She's obviously not going to poop in the box no matter how clean it is...I hate that shelf there...I hate cat poop greeting me every morning too. Crap, cat crap, crapola crap party crap.

My cats tend to poop in one box and pee in another … at least some of them do. Also, could the litter be *too* deep? Some cats, apparently, don't like it too deep. I hope you can figure it out soon! It's a rough life, being a slave to a cat. Edit: Almost forgot!! I scooped all the boxes.

Changed litter (phew - needed doing, poor kitty), swept and refreshed water bowl.
DH bought a new litter tray not so long ago, with a specially designed clip on rim that says it reduces scatter. (It also works to secure a plastic litter liner.) I was pretty dismissive of the anti-scatter rim to start with - I couldn't see how it would make any difference.
Since joining this thread and sweeping on a much more regular basis, I've noticed that there is very little litter that gets kicked out of the tray. Guess I had better fess up to DH and say he was right.

I came home to poop in the litter box! So, was my cat protesting the rat/dog urine in the carpet? Why else would she pick *now* to use her box? I moved the ugly shelf at the beginning of Oct when I had the dryer fixed. Every day since then, she's pooped on the floor beside the box. Today, I cleaned the carpet, and she pooped in the box. WTH???

Maybe she was giving you incentive to clean the carpet? You do realize cats own us not the other way around?!?

Yup, she's definitely the queen - she pooped me into cleaning the carpet, ha! <---that's no whip, it's a cat's tail! Now that makes sense

I swept and scooped again but didn't find anything, which is unusual because my cat usually poops after she eats breakfast, and she ate a lot this morning. I had cut back on her laxative to every other day but will start giving it daily again because I don't remember finding anything yesterday, either.
