I had a beautiful expensive wool dress from Tweeds, dating from the 1990s when I was 60 pounds heavier than I am today. I saved it just in case I ever got that fat again, then I saved it to sell "one of these days" on eBay. Then earlier this month, I dug it out of my storage unit to donate to Goodwill... and discovered that it was riddled with moth holes. They were really ancient holes, though, as there wasn't a live moth or cocoon to be found anywhere in that box. Fortunately, GW accepts scraps marked as "rags" so the dress went there anyway. Sad sad sad. Today I was planning to go back to my storage unit and dig out something else "vintage" to donate, but then decided I didn't have the stomach for it today. I'm sure I'll find more moth damage, and the thought makes me sick. I need to make peace with that thought, and go back and face it... one of these days. Papermoon, instead of being sad about the dress, maybe you can be happy for all of the moths who made good use of it. Onward

Had to add my own mouse story: when I was a kid, I was in the kitchen one Saturday morning and put something in the microwave. A few seconds after I pushed start there was an elecrtic buzzing sort of noise, the microwave shut off, and there was a bit of smoke wafting up from behind it. My dad went over to investigate, and there was a mouse--half in and half out of the uncovered electrical socket that the microwave was plugged into. Needless to say, the mouse had been in the wrong place at the wrong time and met his (her?) end being zapped.

Before my FIL house was torn down I used to spend the night there with my soon to be H. Apparently no one cared much about the mouse problem because I heard those litter suckers for 3 years before my FIL passed away. After he died my BIL decided to tear down the house and rebuild it for his family. My SIL decided that she wanted to keep the old cuckoo clock from the kitchen (that hadn't worked in 10+ years) and found, not only a huge nest of mice and babies but it rained down food and seed carcasses from the pantry. Needless to say that the mice had chewed a hole through the wall into the back of the clock....my SIL did not save the clock....

Def, that's funny! Sophie, I found a mouse skeleton once, cleaned right to the bone by bugs. I thought that was pretty cool, in a bizarre way. I found a mouse skeleton, too, many years ago. It was really cool, but I threw it away and didn't even show it to the kids because I was afraid they might mention it to someone. Last week I put a cookie sheet with bacon grease in the garage for outside barn cats. Today I finally picked it up, and the grease on the edge had mouse toothmarks in it. How gross!

My house is surrounded by cornfields and we used to have lots of mice. We now use electronic mouse repellers. We still get the occasional mouse, but no more crowds!

I haven't found it (them?) yet, but my house is beginning to smell of dead mouse, so the poison is obviously working...

I have been missing my reading glasses since sometime on Friday. I routinely misplace my reading glasses, so I have several back-up pairs. But these particular glasses were extra nice and fairly new, so I was getting pretty peeved that they had gone missing. Sometimes I put them on top of my head and they fall off. So I hunted all over the floors and bed. Sometimes I hook them on the neckline of my top, and they get pulled off when I get undressed and pull the top off. So I checked inside and all around the dirty laundry hamper. Then I remembered that I took out the trash and recycling bags Friday night and threw them down the garbage chute. I had a sick feeling that I had thrown away my glasses and they were gone forever. I just found them 5 minutes ago. They were in the litterbox.

Clearing out my parents house I found a platic bag. In it was a ponytail of hair that belonged to either me or my sister growing up. I'm 59 so it must be almost 50 years old. Its in good condition so I'm going to see if locks of love can use it. Jean!

Jean,
You probably know that hair jewelery was popular at one time. Much to my surprise, there is still a small group of crafters who do this sort of work. Odd, although I think wigs, hair extensions, hair pieces made of human hair are just fine and can be quite attractive, but the idea of jewelery made from human hair creeps me out. I don't understand why that bothers me so much. It's not like a person has to be killed or injured to get the hair, so what's the problem? Sometimes I really have no idea what is going on in my head!

Mouse poo on the dining room sofa. We never sit on this, but it does make an extra spare bed if needed. I did have boxes of already wrapped Christmas presents in there. Now the throws are in the wash / waiting to go in the wash. Still not found anything dead, must be under the floor I think, or inside the sofa?

Yep, the Victorians were a weird lot! Creeps me out too. I am not a fan of 'body products' jewellery, I don't care for breast milk pendants or things made from a loved ones' ashes either, the whole idea just makes me shudder.

Papermoon, uh...glad you found your glasses! Maybe we should have a "Weirdest place to find mouse poop" thread? Because I just found one hanging in my kitchen. Truly, dangling by a piece of web. Are they decorating for Christmas??? I told everyone, "Not until December!"

While digging out my DR this weekend I found Christmas cards and little pieces of Christmastree. From last year.
