There are a few items in our house where it's just easier to have duplicates and multiple homes, because otherwise, they'll "wander".
We have one hair brush that "lives" in a basket on the side table in the living room, and another that "lives" in the bathroom in a basket on the toilet. One pair of scissors lives in a basket in a cabinet in the kitchen, and another lives in a basket in the cabinet in the bathroom. One hammer and some nails live in a kitchen "tools and misc items, like tape, birthday candles and matches" drawer, and another lives in my husband's shop out back.

OK, I haven't seen my vacuum attachment for cleaning crevasses in quite some time. Any of you guys have it? I really could use it!!!!!!If you can find it, I can return your salad tongs.

I do think things should live where they're used. If they're used often in various places, duplicates are good. We have a place to gather scissors in the kitchen, but one or two live in other places. The tools that we find in the garage and use are ending up in a drawer in the sideboard. At some point maybe I should just get rid of all the tools in the garage, because we don't put them back there after we use them.

An overdue library book - not the 1st time this has happened! Luckily DH was able to point me in the right direction - into the dining room (aka junk room) which is crammed with maybe 10 years of stuff that has been shoved in and never sorted.

A collection of eleven maps of the African country which I visited which I was sure I had put in a small pink carrier bag and then into a box file. This thread encouraged me to look for then and there they were with my other maps in my bookcase. Now who would think of looking for maps in the place in my bookcase where maps are stored? They are now back in their pink plastic bag and in the box file. Why? because they are almost impossible to buy in England and very expensive. Also I have found the correct name of a town which I've now corrected in the book I am writing so all is good. Mind you in the process I could not find my magnifying glass which I did find buried in my papers. So all is well and it is psst eleven and I'm for bed.

I too have tried looking for a black scarf. I should use the flash light as I don't see well inside darkish closets.

Ah yes, the missing black scarf - I have had a few of those. Currently looking for instructions for a home health test. However, I lost the instructions for the 1st test, and now I have lost the instructions for the replacement kit.

I wish it was just one thing! I misplace my things but I don't blame anyone else for it. Sweetie misplaces something and he is usually convinced that I moved it on purpose. I have learned to not touch his things without asking and I don't often need to ask. Then I know that I didn't move his stuff. He gets enraged if I suggest that hem not I misplaced it. So I keep quiet and help him look. Sometimes we find the object and sometimes we don't. Now understand that he get angrier and angrier as we look.
Lately it's been a drop light on a long cord, particular wood screws, putty knives, a favorite kitchen knife. "Eventually" all these items show up. When they do, then he remembers putting them there. He never apologizes for accusing me and turns it around to complain things wouldn't be misplaced at all if the house wasn't so cluttered. He's just as much a messie/hoarder as I am but it is always my fault. Honestly I don't see any point in fighting about this situation. Let's just continue to work on the problem and move forward. Anger, accusations, insults, yelling, triggering the fight or flight system only causes high stress. It does not accomplish anything positive. In fact, it is harmful to health.
Whoa, I didn't mean to get into all that, but I guess I needed to get it out. Thanks!

hiding - sounds just like my DH! He gets angry when he can't find something, and he's usually sure that I moved it, and my "tidying up" is to blame. And often *he* moved it somewhere and forgot that he did, but he always jumps to blaming me and my infernal "tidying." Never mind that everything has been easier to find since I uncluttered the house. I love how I can just look around a room and say, "well, it's not in here." These tantrums don't happen nearly as often now … but still somehow it's always my fault, and I'm supposed to know where everything is. I say, "well, I can tell you where it *should* be, but if it wasn't put back, I don't know …"

I frequently search for my glasses … which I just put down mindlessly and walk away. And then I can't see well enough to find them, and I frequently ask my family to help, if they're close by. The funny thing is--I almost always find them before they do, by thinking of what I was just doing and retracing my steps.

I think I lost my mind. It's very small, it could be anywhere.

Glasses! I can find them if they're where I left them, but occasionally they fall, or the dog gets hold of them... I just knew I left them on my desk one day but they had fallen off, into a tangle of cords (computer, other computer, chargers etc). The frames were black just like the cables and I looked right at them and couldn't see them.
I can't see black things, especially in dark places. My wallet inside my purse for instance. I have put garish bright colored tape on things like that. And a purple skin for my phone.

I've put neon bright tape on tons of things too. Even have a purple skin on my phone. Since it is what I lose, most of the time. I have a Maglite flashlight. The huge kind that police officers use. Helps me when im looking for a lost object among the mess.
