Lucie, so you'll have a new niece or nephew for the new year!
Good morning Cyn--what are these meetings about? It seems like you have a lot of them.
I just made a list of important, large repairs that should be done in this apartment. Repairs that other people would consider essential to living here. There are 8 things on the list, and right now I can afford to do NONE of them. BUT, having the list is a start, right?

I am happy to see everyone working right along. My week has been crazy.
Last night I brought my son to work and sat and waited for him. He only had to work an hour and it made sense to wait. I took the time to calm and relax. I did not sleep - but I shut my eyes.
He works for UPS - and I could hear the hum of trucks (18 wheelers and the regular delivery vans) pulling in and out and a steady pace. It was a comforting sound in a weird way.
Everyone can rest assured that if you ordered something that is being shipped UPS - the men and women of UPS are working day and night to get it to you in a timely manner!
I came home and went straight to bed as I knew my day would start early.
Office party today. So far I have recieved three dunkin donuts gift cards (woohoo - clutter free and I can regift if I need a small gift)and a pretty bowl and plate that one of my employees made. Hmmmm....already thinking about that.....
Keep it up everyone! I am enjoying reading about everyone's progress!

Diane, it's all work related crap. This last one, I need to see my boss regarding my winter schedule. Blah. It's the last one though, so after this one I can stop worrying about it. Finally!
And hey, not only do you have the list started, but you have an apartment you can show off! That's huge! I was just thinking about that - I've been chipping away at the remaining build-up in the deep recess of the toilet (got another inch off the other day, yeah!) because DH wants a plumber to snake it out, it sometimes clogs. DH said this was normal maintenance, not a true problem. I was overjoyed to know that if I do have to call in for help, I won't *die of embarrassment* when they see the condition of the bowl. Yay!!!

Well, thank you Cyn, but I don't know if I can actually show my apartment off--more like I'm no longer terribly embarrassed by it. But, this is a huge change from before, so yes, it's good. Fixing the radiators makes me think other fixes are possible now, so I have to figure out how to get the money. Before it was not just the money, but not being able to let anyone in.
I also want to make a list of cleaning projects still to do, the number one item on that is my dirty blinds on every window. As in, NEVER been cleaned in 18 years. Seriously.

Hi ohblondie, I know UPS people work hard--I love the drivers we get at my building. They're always moving fast, they're pleasant, and they accommodate special requests like calling me because my doorbell doesn't work!

, Diane - I consider my place show-off worthy, simply because I'll answer the door now! ROTFL! Never cleaned your blinds in 18 years...the only reason I can't top that is because I've never lived anywhere that long. But, I've rarely cleaned *anything* anywhere! Time for a change, huh? ETA: Brinnnnnngggg, my social hour's up and my coffee pot's dry - it's time to get at it. Have a great day, everyone! I'll report back after I do some cleaning.

Y'all we have the most interesting conversations on here! dtesposito -- Yes, having my parents live close to me would be nice, but most the rest of the family is still in Memphis. Also, my oldest brother (doctor in FL) always said that he would take care of them when they were older & needed it. We all agree at this time, though, to keep them together no matter what is our main goal. Also, since they really want to stay in their home & not move yet, we are going to do the best we can to manage that. I'm so happy that Mom likes the Caregiver ("R") that I re-hired for them. This time she is getting to know her & learning that she is capable of more than just "Elder sitting"... She has been very calming now and helpful to my Mom now that I finally was able to convince my Mom to TRY to get to know her. Yesterday, was just a really bad day! I was so thankful that "R" was there to help out, too. It is hard to describe their situation.. They are very capable in many ways, yet my Dad has Dementia and forgets all recent things. Yet, he is not the type that wanders away from the house. Also, at 85 years of age and with the Dementia... he still walks well, knows my name & just my voice, is able to feed himself, can cook for himself (if he remembers to turn the burner off), etc. He is actually still very smart... but kind of hard to have conversations with him due to his inability to remember recent things. He processes well if he can remember enough. His long term memory is pretty good. My Mom is startng to forget things, loses things, gets confused... but in May when I took her to the Neurologist... which nearly took an act of congress,-- she had a VERY GOOD day! She "proved me wrong". So, I will be unable to get her there, again. It will have to be my oldest bro (the dr) to get her back in. He said that he will. Mom is still driving and according to my youngest brother (who I had drive with her while she drove last week) she is driving fine. As I said... it is very confusing. Monday "R" thought that Mom seemed perfectly fine, but yesterday, she saw things quite a bit differently. My poor Mama... I miss her. She is NOT the same person she used to be and I miss her soo much!!! I'm glad your radiators are repaired! That's great! And, especially that you can have people come in now!!! Huge! I look forward to having people over, again. I am hoping that I will be ready for this Sunday. I am waay behind.. ohblondie -- Sounds like you're having some fun! So glad! cyn -- on having less toilet anxiety due to all that cleaning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH, and about the blinds!!! Mine are at least 18 years old, too. I had the cleaning service clean them a couple times recently & they still look terrible! They just need to replaced & I'm hoping that I can do it by Sunday! The one in the front bathroom is broken and hanging by a thread. My update: med to Puppy fed dogs made my bed
folded load of laundry moved load to dryer Put another load in washer folded/hung load of laundry put that load away moved load to dryer Put 2nd load in washer
washed sinkful of dishes
Emptied 2 boxes that were in Dining Room in front of Buffet -- Had to find a place for beautiful crystal vase that is still in original box that was a wedding gift 30 years ago. No room in the Buffet. Finally was able to move things around in the bottom part of the China Cabinet. Filed a bunch of papers from that same box. Put new pair of sunglasses in giveaway stack in Office 11 papers into recycle bag Broke down 1 box & put in garage to be recycled.
Gathered 39 hangers to either donate or drop off at a cleaners
Emptied a box from DD's room that was in there temporarily (actually had been in the Office for a few months) Filed 2 papers. The rest is trash. Packed up 2 boxes to send to my parents. Things they left here & that load of laundry that I folded earlier was theirs. (One box is the one that I got out of DD's room & the other was one of the ones from the Dining room.

I realized while I was out walking today that I didn't put my stove on my list of major repairs--nothing works on the stove, not the oven or any of the four burners. So that's 9 things, not 8. Although I might be able to try to clean the burners, I'm pretty sure they're just clogged.
Since I've been home all I've done is start a load of laundry. I'm going to try to do a little paperwork.

A for you, cando - what a day you've had! WTG! Good stuff everyone else too, everything counts! What a day: I had to clean my turtle tank, so I could get the hose out of the tub, for the blinds - I had to clean the rat cage, because they get first dibs on any new garbage bag - I had to vacuum the living room, after getting rat poop on the carpet - I had to clean the bathroom sink and toilet, after getting turtle poop on them - I had to clean the kitchen sink, 'just in case' of any germs from all the upheaval - then I got to clean the bathroom window. Man oh man, I'm so tired! That was 4 hours straight of non-stop working! I need to clean my shower stall again, because I did a deep clean with the rat cage flooring. I was going to do that last, but I have to leave soon. Oh well, that window looks nice, and I got my pets taken care of, after having my free time stolen by work last week and preventing them from getting done then, like I'd planned.

well done everyone for making such progress. I am trying to get enough motivation to start on the dishes. I think I need to apply the Ten-Minute Rule.
so far I have: - soaked oats for tomorrow - unloaded dish drainer - recycles out - made phone call

Went to post office & mailed the bill payments & Hanukah cards. Also, shipped the 2 boxes to my parents.
