The leak is coming from a cracked ring on the right side sink, so hopefully by using the left sink instead, there won't be any more water down there - and we can patch it up with some silicone, DH says. Ok, sounds good! Cyn, you can get a set of plastic rings for the sink drain at a hardware or building supply store. The old rings will have to come off, the new ones slipped on, the pipes pushed back in place and the new rings tightened up. I bought one kit and it didn't have enough, so I bought another before I got my sink pipes to stop leaking. I did this myself, since at the time DH was not able to get down on the floor. He sat in a chair and gave me directions. I was proud of myself for doing the work myself.

I've twice had pin hole sized leaks in the mixer set under the sink, so water would drip out and I knew nothing. So I'm glad that wasn't a problem this time. I'd worried about the waste pipe, but that seems ok - what I've seen under/near it so far.
Today's ick was brought to me courtesy of cremating my breakfast. Mostly it has flaked off after a soak. It'll get another scrub in a while.

The other day, while tackling my sorting out my washing, I cut my finger on the laundry hamper. I guess I had better explain – a long time ago DH kindly helped me with my laundry, and tumble dried my Damart thermals – thereby shrinking & distorting them to unwearable proportions. Not long after this incident I took DH’s old laundry hamper for myself, (as a temporary solution) to keep my laundry separate so this wouldn’t happen again. I couldn’t find the ‘right’ laundry hamper, so many years later I am still using DH’s old hamper until I get the ‘perfect’ hamper.
At some stage the lid came off, leaving a sharp wire hinge in place and every so often I will catch my clothes on the hinge. Yesterday I cut my finger on the hinge, again – ouch. Not the first time I have cut my finger. So today I carefully extracted the wire and disposed of it. I can’t believe it has taken me so long to do this, and it was such an easy job once I had thought it through.
*and* I made a note on my master list to put new laundry hamper at the top of the list. I am sure it is bad feng shui to have a laundry hamper without a lid!

Aren't we 'funny' jendela, risking injury when something can be fixed. its fixed. I just use clothes baskets without lids, so I'm not sure that a lid makes it better. I have no idea on that. I took care of another ick. Not glamorous. Duct taped the bottom of kitchen baseboard which was shredding chipboard ... I could steam mop right to the edge now.

Totally agree wynken, yet it has taken me many years & this thread to realise this problem could be fixed. Well done on fixing your kitchen baseboard. I wonder what challenges tomorrow will bring us?

Iamamess, thank you for explaining how to fix the leak. For some reason, nothing around here ever gets fixed properly - it only gets patched until it's absolutely non-functioning. I'm going to try and replace the ring instead, because you make it sound pretty easy! Thanks! Jendela, sorry you cut your finger, ouch! But nice work removing the offending wire - that'll teach it, ha. (I use open laundry baskets too, instead of actual hampers) Today's ick should be unearthing the deep fryer, for the garbage tomorrow. That would be a *great* Last Toss for 2014! I'm going to run out of the extremely super gross, easily overlooked and avoided, oooh-scary-monster-filthy things soon, yay!

Wow, I did it. The fryer is in the garbage. That job was *so* gross! There was so much rat poop in there, it made cleaning mouse poop seem like fun. But it's over now, and I can stop worrying about when I'll do it. What a relief! Plus, now my paint cans are all sorted and I can do the touch-ups I wanted to get at. I only have 2 kitchen cupboards that haven't been cleaned now. Whoo hoo! But 4 icky untouched drawers...blah.

Great work cyn, getting the deep fryer out. Today's ick: I got the kitchen trash outside as soon as I noticed the smell, rather than leaving it for another day to get worse. Re laundry hampers vs baskets, the hamper is for dirty laundry, while I have assorted open laundry baskets for supposedly clean clothes (although I can't be certain any more) scattered throughout the house. I have nearly reached the bottom of the dirty washing hamper.....

Today's ick was the inside of the microwave. I don't know when it was cleaned last, but it was *disgusting* in there! I did the steaming lemon water, and at first I was pleased with the results: the door wiped right clean. Then, nada. Those blobs of chili stuck to the walls/roof just didn't want to budge! Oooh, the dark pieces of WTH all over the bottom...and it's still got a little grime in the bottom corners, even after I called it done. Tough.

thank you all for the kindness in my finally getting that refrigerator clean. It's still shiny.... and DD keeps going and reorganizing it and admiring its' shine, so I'm hopeful that she will keep me on task for keeping it nice.
I don't use sheets to cover my cat chairs... I actually was given a couple of fabric table cloths and use those! just a thought!

jendela - I hate those things that I only notice when it's not a good time to clean them. I need to make of list of them somehow … but often it's not a good time to write something down, either.

A little ick...when I had houseflies (which took ages to get rid of) they would congregate around the kitchen pendant light fixtures and poop their little hearts out all over the rim...so disgusting. The flies are gone but the lights need to be clean!
