Are dishes ever "done" ? For a week now I have been trying to "finish" Every time I think I have, a bowl or a cup or a plate materializes in my clean sink!!!! They are transporting in!!!!!!

wtg everyone.
I washed up this morning, and kept up though the day. Which would be more impressive if I'd eaten better and generated more dishes..

Cooking and washing and loading as I go right now reb for coming up with a system that works for you!!! It takes me forever to realize that there may be an easier way. Problem solving is not my strong point! But yesterday I put my dish drainer in a cabinet , it was forever sliding into the sink and driving me nuts for years, and replaced it with a drying mat. So far I'm happy with the change but the new system needs a little tweaking, like a drainer just for the silverware.

cleanbeeThe right gear can help a lot, I agree A few years ago I replaced all the cheap drainers I had been buying with an expensive bigger one that was far better laid out than the cheaper ones I was buying. I've been using it for years and it's still in great shape. Never bends, or twists and is fairly easy to clean up. It's really too big for this tiny kitchen but it's still so much better that I get around that just because it really does make a difference when your equipment makes the job easier!

I'm reading a book by Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh titled "Peace Is Every Breath: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life" with little bits of wisdom just 1 or 2 pages long. The entry for "Washing Dishes" is so sweet... he really sums it up for me in just the first two sentences: "To my mind, the idea that doing dishes is unpleasant can only occur when you aren't doing them. Once you are standing in front of the sink with your sleeves rolled up and your hands in the warm water, it is really quite pleasant."
So true! It's mid-afternoon and I have not yet put even one minute into washing the breakfast dishes, but I've sure spent plenty of time with them unpleasantly nagging at the back of my mind. He continues: "I enjoy taking my time with each dish, being fully aware of the dish, the water, and each movement of my hands. I know that if I hurry in order to eat dessert sooner, the time of washing dishes will be unpleasant and not worth living....
If I am incapable of washing dishes joyfully, if I want to finish them quickly so I can go and have dessert, I will be equally incapable of enjoying my dessert. With the fork in my hand, I will be thinking about what to do next, and the texture and the flavor of the dessert, together with the pleasure of eating it, will be lost. I will always be dragged into the future, never able to live in the present moment."I'm getting offline right now to go spend some quality time in the present moment with my dishes!

I love that quote papermoon. My sister once said washing up the dishes was easier when you could still remember the taste of the food. It sits right in there with Thich Nhat Hanh's verse. To be in the moment, and to complete the task while in the moment. WTG everyone. Its great to hear your progress. When I was doing the FL method I used a wash up size bowl off to the side for the dirty things. she had advised putting them in a bucket under the sink but that felt to out of sight and forgotten to me. Besides - what room under the sink? When I have a mind too I stand the dish drainer on its end against the window sill to clear off the space some more.

i've been doing ok with the dishes. improved, not perfect. WTG everyone else on keeping your commitments to the dishes! i'm finding a weird phenomenon concerning the dishes: it's now actually comforting when i do them. this is because i use dish washing as a place to start when i don't know what else to do. i feel a lot of anxiety around sorting and decisions, so doing some dishes helps me get in gear even if all i do is maintain my gains without letting them slide back into how bad things were. i am thankful to just be feeling less resistance to dish washing, and enjoying rolling up my sleeves and the soapy water. the other missing piece was that i was not putting the clean things away, just piling more clean dishes on top, which got water droplets on the already clean stuff and made them look "not clean." i still don't put all away, but am working on this more - and ridding myself of the things that i so easily can hoard up - plastic to go food containers, jars, lids, etc.
