The goal: to get 2015 items out of our homes by the end of 2015 The method: that is up to you!
Past participants have counted every little thing or by the bag or not at all. Some of us count papers by the sheet or inch or bundle etc... we've counted trash, donations, regifts, and the release of old habits, pounds lost, even a person!
Jump in when and how you like, or just drop in to cheer us on.
Everything we get rid of is a great accomplishment, even if we miss the mark. You really can't lose!

Thank you for starting us off Papergrace! I decided to get rid of a few books today, but I'll count them at the end of the month since I'm keeping track for my one in, one out thread. Let's see now, what else can I get rid of.... Diane

This is a great way to begin this new year! I cleaned up out side yard today, where we put our container garden. I threw out dead plants, pieces of brick, and wood. I also started a compost bin for my kitchen scraps. That's 15 items down….2000 to go. Good luck to everyone.

My first thought is, That's an overwhelming number! But it's five or six things a day. Maybe I could do that ….

Sounds great! That is a big number but I'll give it a shot.

So I made a chart … I like making charts. It comes out to approximately 5 things a day for five months and six things a day for seven months. Although I don't really think I have that many things to get rid of, I want to try it and see …

Thanks, Papergrace - yay, I'm going to join you! I saw the 2014 thread, but it was too late by then. Now I can do it properly, and thanks to lara, I know where I need to be, day by day. Or, I could toss 10 books of 200+ pages, and call it done...NO, JK! This is a cool project, and one I need desperately. I hope by posting (being accountable) about getting rid of stuff, that'll help shake me out of the clingy attachment I have to all my stuff.
Every year, I tell myself I'm going to give a ton of donations to a yard sale drive in our area, that supports the animal shelter. I've only gotten myself together enough to do it once. But now, this is attainable. They should receive 150 items by the end of May! I'm not very good at tossing my things, unless I think someone else can appreciate them. Thanks again for the gentle push I needed!

YAY PaperGrace! Thank you so much for starting this for 2015! I was remiss at keeping up with my counter for 2014, but I'm striving to remember to count my tossing because I need all the encouragement I can get. HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I'm off to update my counter for 2015.

It occurred to me when I was going through and gathering the names of all who participated for that final push that if I did that every season I might get to the goal faster, and suck people back in to the game.

I definitely need to join in here since I have a bunch of things I seriously need to get rid of but am debating how to count papers since that is my problem area. I am debating if I should count each paper or go by the bag at this point. I will probably decide what to do once I see how much paper I actually have to get rid of. I will not count items until they are actually out of the house and either donated, trashed or recycled. Jan.1 - 1 bag of papers, 2 bags of trash Jan.2 - 38 pieces of clothing, 10 books and 1 bag of trash

Andrea, last summer I needed a big push to get a filing cabinet emptied, so I counted each paper as an item--although when I got rid of large chunks of them I estimated by the inch! It seems counterintuitive to spend time counting papers when you should be cleaning, but it was just the incentive I needed, to see how much I was getting rid of--I don't know if I would have accomplished the purge if I hadn't done something to make it fun. But, if counting each paper slows you down, and you spend more time worrying about if you counted those last ones you just threw away--then count by the bag, or the inch, or the bunch. Do whatever works best for you, since it's not a competition, but a way to challenge yourself.
I just recently got rid of another whole bin of paper, so I don't have that much left to throw away. So, this year, coming up with 2015 will be a bit more challenging. I'm sure I can do it though, especially if I ever get around to cleaning out my main filing cabinet.

Whoo hoo, 4 things gone already! I'm down to 2011. I think I'll grab 11 books and shove them into a donation box, to make it an even 2000 for the day. Thanks again PaperGrace, this is just what I needed!

I have a box of knick-knacks here in the LR, waiting to be packed up for donation … and a lot of donations right by the front door, not out yet. I think I'll count them when they get into the car. School is starting up again soon, so I'll be able to do my drop-offs after taking DD to school. I'm actually getting ready for *GUESTS*!! I've been sooooo sluggish today, and the house was cold, and I just called them to say we have heat, so we're on. So now I have to clean up a little bit, put away all the veggies I just bought, and maybe cook some, before 6:00. But I could pack up the knick-knacks and count them while I hang out with people. How does the ticker thing work? I have no idea how to do a ticker.
