hollyhock Thank you so much! I know you have moved in the recent months, so I bet you have been super busy. We can definitely do this!! dtesposito Thank you! I agree that I need to plan. I have trouble following strict plans, which is something I need to work on. Not even strict, but too structured. This is something I need to get over. What I have done so far with planning is to break each room down into tasks. My kitchen and living room each get a day of their own. My bedroom will only take a few hours if that, so I'm going to group that in with the bathroom (less than an hour), and this little storage area in the bathroom, which I just want organized enough so that it's orderly. I will be moving my stuff from storage soon, so I know family photos and some other boxes will live there eventually. There's also a built-in chest of drawers I need to decide how to use. So I think I will see how I feel tomorrow and which rooms I want to tackle. The kitchen is the worst, but the living room is bad too and I have to walk through it to get everywhere. So I may start with the living room. Tomorrow will be a full housework day, so I am curious as to how much I am capable of doing. I will know after tomorrow. Unswamping Thank you! Being in a smaller space has helped me as well. This is spacious for a 1BR but there are definite limits. I love the cheerleaders! needmorecoffee I love your username! And thanks! I'm so glad I got the laundry done. It really is a good time for reflection/writing. aquamarine I agree! It's a lot harder to make excuses when a tenant has their rent paid on time and keeps the place clean and nice to look at. It'll give me an upper hand in negotiating with him. I win all-around since I get a hapy home out of the deal. As for daily cleaning, I don't mind the idea so much anymore. There was a time when it was revolting to me. I don't feel like that anymore. Does microfiber make use of static electricity? Is that how it works? *** The laundry was a pretty big job. I forgot I had a couple of blankets in my trunk that needed to be washed. I was tempted to either toss them or leave them for another day, but I hauled them in with the other stuff. One Hello Kitty blanket will go to my cousins' little girl. She's going to love it! The other will get boxed with a comforter and set of sheets for when (not if!) I have a friend come stay with me. I hosted people when I lived in my townhouse. It was a mess but much bigger, so there was room. Not so much here. But I'm fixing it. After I got home, I unloaded the laundry from the car, a task in itself. Then I made my bed. I bought a fitted sheet to cover my boxspring. It was awful to get on and I managed to cut my hand, but it looks great! Worth it. I hung up clothes that needed to be hung up. I got rid of about 70 hangers. First, I pulled out all the green hangers, but realized I still had too many. So the light pink ones had to go too. Now I have about 50, all matching deep pink/magenta (same color as my hair ). My pants hangers are wood and all match. And I have 2 accessories hangers I need to see if I will use (since now I can get to them.) I'm going to use chat tomorrow to keep me going. Unless I wake up feeling differently, I am going to work on the living room as the first room to conquer.

Bottom sheet for the box spring - I love that idea! Yes it does sound painful but so was my "dust ruffle". We have a new bed with a decorative frame - that would definitely show it off better and the ruffle always looks wrinkled and who in the heck would want to iron that . Great job on the laundry. It is nice to get it all done at once. What is your laundry situation at the apartment? Just wondering if you need to add laundromat to a weekly or semi-weekly list PC

Kira, the sheet on the box springs is what I need to do so it looks better. I really don't want to tackle it by myself though. You are brave and I hope your hand heals quickly! I go to the laundry mat every other week unless it is an emergency like the night I fell in the mud.

I'm utterly exhausted today and have been spinning my wheels. I realized I was doing the anxiety thing of touching things without doing anything with them. Most of the clutter in the living room belongs somewhere else, and it feels bad to just move it into another room, 'double-handling' and all that. But since I've moved in, most of my stuff has not had a workable home. In a way, I'm starting from scratch. As long as I don't transfer garbage or unusable things to other rooms, I should just go with it, keeping in mind that I will have to deal with it sooner rather than later.
I hate feeling low energy like this. But I don't need to be enthusiastic about getting this done. I just need to do it. I can take breaks as needed.
I'm going to get into chat and do some challenges. More later!

OH. MY. GOODNESS.
So I was cleaning, making a bit of headway. On a chair, I found a dental bill. I made the mistake of disregarding earlier, thinking I had paid it in person. Nope, that was last month. It was 2 days overdue. I called and there was a grace period so I didn't get a late charge. Then I realized that after paying this that my bank account was dangerously low. I have only been keeping enough money in there for bills and have been using cash for daily expenses. So I walked quickly to the bank to make a deposit. I did that, and was on my way home, when an elderly man with a cane fell down at the street corner. I helped a few other people in getting him up. He lived locally, and someone was kind enough to take him home via car. That poor man. I did as much as I could. He was tall and couldn't support his weight standing. I'm not as strong as I once was. I realized part of my current tiredness and nausea is just hormonal so that is a relief at least. Still I feel like crap. I'm going to grab something to settle my stomach and then back to work. That living room is getting DONE. I will report back with progress.

Please don't push yourself too hard. Basic maintenance while not feeling too good is one thing; major clear up exercises is something else. Slow and steady is best. You also need to think of the stages: rubbish, recycling, donating, selling... before trying to find a place for everything. Perhaps you could work on your paperwork for a while, and have a short break from the living room. There is a danger of crashing and burning when people try to do too much in a short time.
What a chain of events: it is lucky that you found that bill just in time to avoid a penalty. It was very good of you to help that man.
Congratulations for getting all that washing done.

Microfibre cloths are a wonderful invention. They last a long time: mine are years old and still working.
I remember how after dusting the screen on my laptop with an ordinary duster, millions of tiny dust motes would swarm in and cling! Now the screen stays clear. My window sills used to get covered with dust, but now they stay clear. My windows seem to repel dirt too. Either the invisible man is coming in and cleaning while I am asleep, or the microfibre cloths are responsible. They must have anti-static properties - or they are magic!

I'll reply to everyone tomorrow! Thank you so much for the support! I'm beyond tired now, but I wanted to check in with what I've gotten done. After I got home, I started cleaning again and it struck me how much more work I have to do than I thought I did. I didn't take into consideration how many surfaces were covered in stuff, that the couch needed to be scrubbed down, etc. Broken down into small jobs, it's not overwhelming stuff but it all takes time. I started to feel really bad about things, thinking it wouldn't get done. I decided to try out chat. So glad I did! I did over an hours' worth of 10-minute challenges that got me on the right track and feeling productive. Thanks again, Owl! List of things accomplished today, random order: scrubbed couch and cushions packed away spare comforter and sheets wiped down back of refrigerator hung up clothes threw away pair of shoes that were broken (mentioning separately because I really liked them) made my bed when I got up cleaned entertainment center and organized it hung up coats organized 4/6 dresser drawers in bedrooom put shoes away wiped off dining room table vacuumed one rug and couch sorted out old towels for rags bagged garbage bagged up stuff for little cousin (nice stuffed animals I had displayed, blanket, towel, etc.) I feel so ashamed living like this. I wish I could move faster. I just have to keep faith it'll get done if I keep working at it. I guess that's it. The living room still isn't done. I'd say it's at 60%. I feel like I tricked myself into working on it by saying it wouldn't be so hard. Whatever. . Tomorrow, I will clean out the fridge/freezer (quick wipe down, I keep it clean), take out garbage, and continue working. I feel a little disappointed I didn't get the entire room done like I said I would, but I got more done today than I would've otherwise. I still have 3 days! On Friday, I must do my smog check/registration for my car. I already missed the cheaper early rate, really time to get it done. That will cut into cleaning time, but it'll provide time out of the house which is probably a good thing. Time to get some rest.

kirakira - that is a LOT you got done! You should be pleased with yourself. You had a very busy day too - needing to go out, and helping the older gentleman, etc. Anything you do is moving ahead, progress is progress, whether it is fast or slow. I'd like to make a suggestion. Concentrate on your living room - or a place you go to that is your comfy/ safety zone. Clean it. If things need to go to another area - to be dealt with when you get there - do that. Just create a sanctuary area for you. Keep that 1 area up every day. Then work on another one - maybe your kitchen or bedroom. Eventually you will get there - but the main thing is to do it for you.

hollyhock Thank you so much for the support! That's very sound advice. I tend to get distracted or see things that need doing in another room. Focus is key. needmorecoffee Thank you! ohblondie I agree! Haha. cyn Thanks! The closet will be cuter when the rod is straight. Whoever put it in didn't have a leveler, apparently! phoenixcat The fitted sheet would probably work great for you too! My bed frame doesn't allow for a dust ruffle either. The frame is dark wood, so I chose a black sheet, and it looks very 'built-in'. Since it's not actually used, I shouldn't have to wash it often. Maybe once or twice a year just to freshen up. I do need to start scheduling laundry in. I have a washer and dryer in my apartment complex but I don't like using it and it's often in use anyhow. But there is a laundromat down the street I could wheel my basket to. I could do that once a week or every other week, and then drive my laundry to the other place once a month for things like comforters and such. imamess I bet the fitted sheet is protective of the box spring too, so that's another bonus. I usually let my laundry pile up and then it's a huge job to do. Every other week would make my life easier. aquamarine Thank you! I never know when I'm pushing myself too hard. I got more done than I thought. Sometimes I come across things that baffle me, but most things I have an idea where they will go. I have gone to put things away, and there are five identical things waiting! That's when I know. This is only after years of paring down. I know I have more to get rid of. The microfiber clothes will really come in handy. I live near the beach (a few blocks away) and it gets dusty. I have to admit, I've never dusted daily. Even though I've needed to. So anything that makes that easier sounds great! scrapsz Thanks so much for the support!
