I finally have a nice long free period to be at home, so I'm going to work hard. I've started a load of laundry and am updating my to-do list. Please join in everyone, so that tonight you can be thrilled with everything that you got done! Diane

Thanks for starting this thread, Diane! I have a few things to remove from my bedroom. Now *there's* an understatement! I have 2 book cases filled, and another small one on top of my dresser, that I want to reorganize (incl. moving books to other room, which means parting with an equal amount so that they fit - or make a huge stack for my cat to knock over, hmm) plus 2 plant stands. Then I want to do something really weird: I want to clean the furniture. How bizarre! Too bad I can't use any products, but after my dog's seizure I'm afraid to use anything other than hot water and soap. Aww, no lemony Pledge...oh well...

Good morning Cyn! Books and book cases!! My nemesis. I wish you luck and want to hear a report on the wonderful books you're keeping! You can let some of them go--the ones you haven't looked at in a long time, the ones you can easily get at a library, the ones that have no emotional tug. Other than the emotional tug from the fact that it's a BOOK. Obviously I'm not helpful when it comes to book purging, so carry on and think of how nice it'll look when you're done! Diane

I'm in the middle of doing some paperwork right now, I've started washing the last of the bedding and when that's done I'll move on to washing the last of the sweaters from MIL's estate. Then I can start the regular laundry. I promised my husband I'd mop the kitchen floor today, so I'll do that too.

Hello perfectionist, good luck with all of your laundry. My one load of clothes have been through the dryer (such as it is) and is now hanging up to finish drying. I made my bed (wow--about the 3rd time in the last week--what's gotten into me?) washed cat food dishes and packaged 4 books to mail away.
I'm now going to finish PEEPing, which shouldn't take too long, and then I'm going to devote some time to paperwork and desk stuff.

Okay, everything is pretty much in its place. My second bedroom is kind of messy but it's a "work room" so I don't think it'll ever look neat. I'm "knock knock" ready! I also scooped litter pans, did another cat feeding, reorganized my reggae/soca/world music CD rack and started some veggies steaming for lunch. Now I'm going to sit down and do some dedicated desk/paperwork time. Diane

Now for the scary talk..... Guess how much mail and etc I got off the floor of my passenger seat in the car (# of full large grey garbage bags full). A hint is that with my back being so bad the last 2 months I have just been tossing it there and covering it up with a sweater since I could barely get from the car to the house just carrying my purse let along handfuls of anything else. I will post the answer later..... Though I did get it all cleaned out (I am starting to feel better and I have to go to the hospital and have the valet service park the car so there was no way I could leave all the mail in the car).

# of full large grey garbage bags fullI'm not going to guess, but congratulations on getting it all out! Is this just junk mail? Since I imagine if you had bills in there you would be in trouble by now...so hopefully it can all go directly to the recycle bin? How do people get so much mail anyway? I used to get a lot of catalogues, but since I stopped buying from them they've trickled off to almost nothing. And I'm unable to donate to charities anymore, so no longer get that kind of mail either. I look forward to hearing how much of it ends up in the recycle bin or trash bin. Diane

I'm pleased with my paperwork hour, I got a lot of little annoying things done, and was able to clear away a 2-inch stack of paper from my in basket. There's still 1-2 inches not sorted yet, and a 1-2 inch pile of "projects" still to do, but it looks so much better on my computer desk. I also dusted it and put away a few other messy looking things so I'm pleased.
I'm going to stop for lunch now.

Oh no Diane it was bills too. I pay everything online and I picked out a couple of things I needed before I tossed it there. So my bills are up to date. The total was 2 large bags of catalogs and junk with 1 large bag of real stuff I need to go through and shred. I just could not carry a darn thing (or even walk without holding on to something) for so long. Once they reset my back and my sacral bones and all the pulled muscles and tendons calmed down, I am doing pretty good. My problem was thinking it was just a pulled muscle or something and suffering for so long with it dislocated.
I will bring the bag in tonight and see what all I have and start shredding.

@tml, good work getting the mail in from the car. Diane, thanks for starting this thread. Wow, you are getting some great stuff done. Gosh, there is so much to do here, not sure where I should start. Maybe a cup of tea to help me get going? And unload the dishwasher?

TML, that is a lot of mail! I'm so glad you're feeling better--how awful not to be able to carry anything.
Good morning jendela, I was off work all day and it's such a good feeling to finally get things done.
I did a little more paperwork that I've been delaying, and then I worked on book listing--I finished the last box of books from in front of the book case, so now I'm down to just a half box of donation books there. I'm going to celebrate when I finally clear that last half box away--at one time I had not only about a dozen boxes of books in front of that book case, there were also stacks of them all around the boxes, creeping out into the room like tentacles!
I have to stop now and go do my one paid dog walk of the day, I hope I can keep up the momentum when I get home and get some more done. The next two days will be busy so I want everything in order before they start.

Diane, I estimate about 90-95% of my mail goes straight into the trash. Dish Network, Comcast, AARP, life insurance, store advertising circulars...not opened or looked at. I regard it all as no different than email spam - it's businesses trying to sell me stuff I have never expressed an interest in the first place. Straight into the trash it goes! That's a whole lot of wasted paper and energy and resources every day. I can't imagine how many tons daily, in this country alone, are wasted on advertising. Well I suppose it isn't totally wasted; if the return was too meager these companies wouldn't do it. So obviously enough people are buying this stuff to keep them bombarding millions of uninterested parties daily with crap.
</steps off soapbox> I loathe advertising and rampant consumerism generally.
Anyway. I had a rather nice and productive day but not much of that involved cleaned or decluttering or anything like that. Spent time with a couple of friends, ran some work errands. Home now with a California Kitchen pizza to cook because I forgot to eat today and I am really hungry. I did get some cleaning up done this morning before I left the house though not much.

Diane, it is great that you can see such visible progress, down from all of those boxes and stacks, to just 1/2 a box left to sort. Yes, I think there should be a celebration when you finish. I would love to come to that party. Hi stevie, good that you have had a fun and productive day. Enjoy that pizza! I agree about junk mail, just a waste of paper and energy. I am slowly trying to have my name taken off those types of mailing lists. OK, I have started. DW has been unloaded and recycles taken out to the bin.
