Day One is in the books. I kinda let that day get away from me after my break and didn't do anymore cleaning. I really only cleaned for 2 hours and 15 minutes, maybe a bit more, so say 2:30, which isn't that much time and my apartment looks loads better. It gives me encouragement that if I actually cleaned all day, I can do this. Obviously I need to take breaks and such, but if I clean a bunch today and tomorrow I can totally have this done by my deadline. It's just after 7 here and I've been up since about 4:30, but I'm just getting out of bed. I was trying to go back to sleep but no such luck. I went to bed early yesterday, and my body refuses to stay asleep for more than 6 hours. I'll probably need a short nap at some point today. I have a few things I need to do today, that aren't cleaning related. - Gym class
- Run to work to finish project
- Fill out report and send to M.
- Send CC info to auto place

All of my lurking reading on here today--topped off by your posts, shellsncheese and def6--has finally worked to get me motivated to start something in that horror formerly known as my kitchen. Doesn't look like my son and/or his friends are gonna get to it, long after they made that beef-a-roni mess, so I'm now off to find a BIG pan to fill with water and boil, so when I "find" the bottom of the sink, I can melt the greasy residue on all the dishes in there. (Yes, I have hot running water, but this'll be more efficient.) Then I can start a regular, though huge, load.

Wow, congrats on getting so much done already!
Dishes do pile up quickly. I always keep heavy duty paper plates on hand and use them more often than real plates since I can just toss them in the garbage. Not the most ecofriendly habit, but it has really helped me to stay on top of the dishes in the sink. I give myself amnesty to use paper plates and throw them away.

I wasted most of yesterday, but I'm back at things today. Did 15 minutes of washing dishes and started a load of laundry.

Crisis Cleaning Day 4
I don't have to work until 5:30 today, so the crisis cleaning continues.
I did another 45 minutes. 15 minutes in bedroom and putting away laundry, 15 minutes switching laundry over, putting away clean clothes, and clearing off fireplace mantle, 15 minutes scrubbing in bathtub. The bathtub is now "good enough"
I'm not were I wanted to be by today, but things are worlds better. I've gotten a bunch of trash out, I have clean clothes that are put away, I've started to wash my bedclothes so I can make my bed and start sleeping in it again. I've been sleep on the couch, in part because my bed is cluttered but also because the living room stays warmer than the bedroom in the winter. It's warm now, so I don't have the it's too cold excuse.
I'm going to continue working today and then see where I am to plan out the rest of the week and hopefully get myself to presentable ASAP.

I see you have made great progress in the time you had, I hope this has taken a mental load off, and that it will help you reboot your cleaning habits and make the improvements you want to see, and have seen in these few days of focusing on your cleaning.

Thanks boyswillbeboys! These past few days have definitely been good for my mental health. The nice thing about having had things done to zero at one time, is it seems be be easier to get back there each time and you remember how to do things as you go. I'm still plodding along today and I'm prepared to continue to commit to so hard core cleaning over the next week or so, to get my apartment back to company ready. I did another 45 minutes in 15 minute blocks. I washed up some dishes, and soaked some, put some vinegar in the microwave to loosen up the crime, rebooted the laundry, cleaning the microwave, cleaned the bathroom sink and toilet bowl, headed back to the kitchen and washed up some more dishes. I think the end is near on the dishes. I can see light at the end of the tunnel (and the bottom of my sink). I'm taking a break now and then try to get 1 more cleaning block in before I head to work.

Did another 45 minutes in 15 minute blocks. Cleaned off stove top, cleaned one portion of countertop, wiped down the top of the fridge, clear top of cabinet in dining area, cleared one shelf, threw away a couple of things in the drawers, and a couple of things from kitchen cabinets. walked dog, changed over laundry.

You've done soooo well Shells…I know you are "over the moon" now and what you have accomplished so far will just bring more; energy, clarity, bravado. You can be yourself now without the mess chipping away at you. This is the good stuff!

Shells, I am lucky because I have not needed to use any heating over the winter as the weather has been quite mild and warm clothes are good enough I have been using hot water bottles since October. I have a thin piece of memory foam as a mattress, and this is warming too (not so good for the hot months though).
It is very true that once you have been close to level zero, it is much easier to return there that it was to get there in the first place. I dislike hard core, marathon cleaning sessions so much that I try to stay between level zero and level 0.5 all the time. This does mean doing a little every day, and it does take time to establish the habits.
