I'll see if that brand is available here or if I can find something similar and effective. @7sweestbabiesgranny: thank you! better: thank you for taking the time to copy a piece from a book! It sounds like a good idea - will see if I can find ammonia and borax here. (Pure chemicals are hard to find for private persons, but some hardware stores still have them.) Both my grandmothers regularly used ammonia and borax when they were young wives in the 40's and 50's, I am looking forward to trying it!

Ammonia is great for grease but I would save it for the worst messes. It really is a hazardous material. Dilute it well and make sure you have good ventilation. Use rubber gloves because it is really hard on your hands.

I agree with bobolink- save for worst messes. Just opening the lid is strong smell and open all doors and windows and use gloves. Whether it is diluted or not it still smells so I always use a good amount- and use it only for the worst messes, and do not mix with other chemicals, including the cloths you use.

Also ammonia and bleach are toxic mixed together. Never use together!!!!!!!!!
