Anyhow - did two 8 minute sessions this morning! Swept bathroom, kitchen, mud room and living room floors, did dishes, wiped down random surfaces, put laundry away, stripped bed and turned the mattress, did a little tidying up in the bathroom. You did all that in 16 minutes!!? You must work at the speed of light! Or the timer got stuck! !

Heh. Well actually I have a very small house, so a superficial sweep of four rooms takes maybe four minutes. Wasn't much laundry, nor many dishes, so, yeah. It got done, was the main thing! Mainly it's amazing how much one can get done in eight very focused minutes.

Hello Stevie, I've been here a good while... but I have never heard of a superficial sweep. It sounds like what we southerners call swept with a lick and a promise ( not where you move everything and get every speck of dirt) If so…I think I'll try it. 2 minute sweep of the entrance way, 5 minute sweep of the kitchen, 1 minute sweep in both bathrooms

I really need to do something. My house is a disaster. We just got home from holidays and there are suitcases, laundry and crap everywhere. It is so bad it almost looks like I'm back to square one. But I know I'm not. If I could just start I know I could get it under some sort of control. But I just don't know how. I spent all day yesterday staring at it and getting depressed and then eating junk food (because that's so helpful). Today I still don't know where to start and I am just wasting the day. I don't know if I can even do 8 minutes right now, but in the spirit of the original post I am going to make myself do 4 minutes and see what happens...

dirtbee - I'm sorry you feel overwhelmed. I hate unpacking. Did you do the four minutes? I think starting very small is a good idea.

I did it! The floor is now much clearer and one suitcase is empty. Washing is on and one load is out to dry.
There is a huge mound of clothes I now need to sort that is a tangled mess from when we packed in a hurry and then dumped more stuff on to it when we got home. I am dreading it because I have no idea what's clean or dirty. And some of it is minibee's clothing and I'm not sure if it's too small, which leads to that whole domino anxiety of realising I need to do more sorting on his clothes. I think I can only commit to a small session on this one.
8 minutes....

dirtbee, def6, yup a lick and a promise! . Mainly just rounding up dog hair - no carpet in my house. When I get serious about floors I vacuum, but with three dogs, I try to sweep some on a daily basis.

I'm going to do at least 2 20/10's ufyh app before going to bed. I need to make some real progress before I end up staying up for 24 hours and panic cleaning. That leads to burn out and then I don't clean again for months. :sigh:

WOW! Y'ALL are tearing it up in my absence! Woo-Hoo!
Dirtbee, you have discovered why deciding to work for only a few minutes is so magical - it jump-starts you into action (usually). And even if it doesn't, doing a few minutes is better than nothing.
I've been gone most of the day, but now it's crowding midnight, so I'm going to do 1 8 minute sessiom.before.bed.

I use baby wipes for areas that don't need to be 100% sanitised, like benchtops, walls and sticky spots of shelving. They're very cheap and really great for cleaning your shoes too! Another 8 minutes today PEEPing
