Good morning calypso! I would love to hear more about your dogs--what kind, when did you adopt them and how are they adjusting, and how did you choose them? Diane I adopt senior black labs. The latest two are numbers 9 and 10 that I've adopted since retiring. I'm old so I want old dogs who are easy keepers. My super wonderful heart dog was a black lab mix and he's the one who inspired me. You probably know that old dogs, big dogs, black dogs are very hard to adopt out and on any given day there are thousands of labs listed on Petfinder. I know lab can tend to be a catch all for mixed breeds so the numbers are high. These two came from a breed specific rescue near DC. They had to be adopted as a pair since they are bonded sisters. Of the current dogs the one who has been with me the longest came to me at age 12 and he will turn 15 in late August and I do believe he will make it to that birthday. The other guy is really more a greyhound/lab mix but when a friend called me last autumn I went to see him and he was miserable in the little shelter that my former group has. He was originally adopted out by the group as a puppy and returned 7.5 years later because he has some issues - mainly moderate separation anxiety but he's also thunder phobic. I call him my honorary lab - he is black with a fair amount of white and just turned 8, which is about as young as I will take them. _______________ What I got done today: I headed in to town about 10 am and did the following: 1. Dropped off a little garbage and the small cardboard recycling. 2. Stop at the library where I borrowed 3 books and bought 3 others. 3. Dropped off two boxes of household goods at the thrift store donation center. They have a small shed that you can just leave stuff in. Had to make space. 4. Swung by the post office and dropped off some outgoing mail. 5. Popped in to the dollar store for a few snack type items and a few light bulbs. 6. Headed back to the center of town and went to the farmers market. Ran in to a few folks that I know and chatted for a short while. Bought some potatoes and some strawberries. I got there too late for the asparagus, which had sold out quickly. I also bought two different heirloom tomato plants. 7. Then on to the grocery store where I got 10 bags of frozen green beans for the girls, and other things for me. 8. Thought I was done and headed toward home but realized that I wanted cigs so I stopped in the market that has the best prices and got 2 cartons. 9. Really thought I was done and continued down the road but made one more stop at an annual yard sale and bought a few plants, half a dozen johnny jump ups to put in some hanging baskets and one wisteria that she had trimmed up to grow as a standard (tree) rather than a sprawling vine. 10. Home and got it all unloaded from the car and into the freezer in the garage or brought in to the house. It was 2:30 and I took a short break, then fixed myself a tasty sandwich and ate a late lunch. Now I'm going to plop down in my recliner and read for a bit and hope not doze off. In an hour or so when the temps start to drop I'll go out and do a bit of yard work, rake and bag up the long grass that was mowed a few days ago and is now dry and not so heavy.

Hello everyone, lucie, you're getting to know me pretty well, yes--when you said you got 3 books I immediately thought "which ones"? JD Robb is very popular here, I never read anything written by her under that name, but I did read a book by Nora Roberts (her alter-ego) many years ago and didn't like the writing. I have a friend who loves the series under the Robb name though, she says they're totally different than her other books.
Calypso, how wonderful that you adopted a bonded pair of dogs--you're right, it's hard enough to adopt out one older, large, dog, let alone a pair together. They are very lucky to have found you. One of my pet care clients takes old dogs from a lab rescue too, officially she fosters them at the beginning but usually ends up adopting them for their last few years.
I came home from my mid-day work and didn't get much done until about 4:00, when I realized I'd better get a move on or I would have wasted the entire afternoon. So I ended up washing the half set of blinds left over from the other day. I finished in time to go out for my last dog walk, and now I'm home for the evening and have had dinner already. I need to package a couple of books to go out, and then I'll figure out what else I can get done tonight. This day is going by really fast.

Good morning everyone , well, at least it is morning for me. calypso - great work with shopping and donations. How lovely you are able to give your rescue pets a safe and happy home. Diane - you seem to be making steady progress towards finishing your blind cleaning project? I have started with some of my usual chores - washing dishes and dealing with laundry. Also I have been reviewing my lists of all the things that I would like to get done - I need to get back to consolidating them in the one book. OK, I need to step away from the computer and *do* something, not just *think* about doing something.

Hi Everyone I am joining late. Thanks for starting the thread dtesposito Diane!!! I just picked up first mate kitty from the vet hospital. He had to go in for another dose of chemo. They also gave him a bath which I am willing to bet he did not appreciate. He got car sick on the way up so he needed to be cleaned up a bit. I usually use kitty wipes. So now we are back home and trying to figure out the plan of attack for the rest of the holiday weekend. I am just exhausted so I am going to have to do baby steps.

Good morning jendela, that's been my problem today--I keep THINKING hard about doing something, but not actually doing much. The half set of blinds that I finished makes 4 out of 5 sets done in the sunporch. I must admit they look nice so far.
Hi TML, baby steps are fine, and there are two more days left of the holiday weekend so you have plenty of time!
Ohblondie, you had an amazing day today! When is your daughter having her company over?
I just spent about an hour on the phone with my friend because I remembered she had a medical procedure yesterday and I wanted to check on her. So now it's time to finish up with pet care and decluttering.

Good morning everyone, I have been busy so far. Did all my ironing, changed my bedsheets, changed hand towells, washing the second load of laudry, the first one is hanging to dry. I took two flower pots and a flower box outside and watered them, and watered my only patch too. Also sorted through my empty pots and threw away all the soft plastic ones you buy the plants in, as I never reuse those. Now I have finished listening to my audiobook - Sarah Addison Allen's The Sugar Queen (I so wish I had her Peach Keeper too. I love that one.) and finished reading Nora Robert's Face the Fire. I like most of her books, dtesposito, there is only one I did not finished reading. Which one did you try to read? I made a back up copy of some of my audiobooks I have listened to recently - I always wait till I can fill the CD. I am about done for today.

Good Morning, Afternoon or Evening to all my Weekend Work-Along Warriors. You are all inspiring me to keep on going. I had another good nights sleep and feel well rested and eager to get going.
Today and tomorrow need to be focused on getting as much outside work done as possible because after that the Weather Underground website shows we've got some rain coming every day for 8 days. Those rainy days I'll have plenty of indoor work that I can tackle. I'm having dinner with friends this evening at their place, something done on their Big Green Egg. That's always yummy.
Time for me to get the pooches fed and myself dressed to work boots.
Keep up all the good work.

Good night jendelaGood morning tnmimi and calypso. It's almost 8, I'm waiting for the coffee to get done. Allergies feel a little better this morning. Today's plan is to work some more on the craft closet, I think I'll be able to finish it up today. I spent about 4hrs working on it yesterday, got my storage system moved in and started sorting. Discovered I need another deep drawer, hopefully it will fit, I have 12 in to work with. Got 2 loads of laundry washed, 1 dried and 1 folded yesterday. Once I fold the load in the dryer I'll be on to backlog until current accumulates again. Hope everyone has a wonderfully productive day

Good morning everyone. I thought I'd join you all today to get some things done. I normally try to take Sundays 'off' but I'm behind on several things. Since ds put in the air conditioners 2 weeks ago and I got the budgies into their flight cage last week, it seems like all of the rooms have little messes or reorganizing that need to be done. Like Friday I moved the small bird cages down to my storage locker - so now I am revamping my closets where they had been stored etc. (Although I will need to keep room for air conditioners to go away in the fall.) And I'm still dealing with figuring out window treatments.
Also tomorrow the water is going to be shut off in the building, for repairs in someone's apt., so I need to do some 'wet' things today. It says it will be off 10-4, but the last 2 times I barely noticed it off, but I think I might just work ahead and then try to be out for part of tomorrow.
Also I have delayed cleaning the bird cage. I wanted to try giving them a mist bath this AM - their first, so I don't know if they will like it. But so far they are still covered and quiet, but will be up any minute. I try to keep them quiet early morning, especially weekends.
So I have had my breakfast - and for now I will start with my dailies of dishes, bed, and self-care.
