Thanks for the links mouseanne, and good work getting donations out--that frees up space to start collecting more things to donate! I did finally send that note to my ex-clients, and last night I had a nice dream about them! So that was a plus. Still need something for this week. Diane

Dunno many weeks ago, quilter friend asked me to machine applique some Minnie mouse ovals on the quilt she is making for her great granddaughter. I have the machine for it. She refused to borrow it. (I understand that wise choice). Orig she was going to do it, but the granddaughter and g-g-dau live with her and the baby is wearing them out.
Over lunch yesterday, got out the right machine, set it up, selected thread, wound bobbin, threaded machine.
This morning before work, outlined two of the 18 Minnie blocks.

This past weekend: finished the Minnies & returned quilt top to my friend. I had made a quilt top for the same baby, my friend's great-granddaughter. I made a back for that quilt. May I share a sad story about a tin of buttons. I will delete if anyone considers it to "downer" My mom always had a tin of buttons, too. A round tin. I expect it had originally held candy. Mom was an accomplished knitter, to the tune of making gorgeous sweaters. She had made herself a pale rose sweater. I bought her a rose quartz necklace & earrings. the necklace was beads, with a carved leaf pendant, about 1" long. The earrings were also each a carved leaf. The carvings were of the same rose quartz. Mother didn't have pierced ears, and clip-on earrings were challenging to find. After mom died, I found the necklace & earrings in the button tin. All three leaves were broken. One or two might happen accidentally, but three? no. She broke them on purpose. I thought about just tossing the jewelry set, but realized that if I did that, every time I opened the button tin, I would remember the necklace & earrings. So I gave the button tin away. I wanted a better relationship with my mother. Her hostility and animosity to me still mystifies me. She died in 1991, I was 35. sparkle, may your button tin bring you many happy reminders of your own mother.

Oh Mouseanne, I'm so sorry about your relationship with your mother. I had problems with mine when I was a teenager, but it was me not her and we got over that rough patch. I'm so so sorry that anyone has to have bad memories of their parents.

imamess, thank you. A few weeks ago, working in my bedroom, I discovered my copy of Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way. Yesterday, I discovered my Morning Pages journal in my living room side table paper stack. This notebook has entries for 2/1/14, 2/2/14, 2/6/14, 2/9/15. Yup, that's a gap of a year. Last night, I read a bit. This morning, I read a bit, and did 3 MPs. Anti-Procrastination List(1-Cut fabric, 2-sew blocks, 3-assemble quilt top, 4-fray check short seams, 5-prepare a backing, 6-sandwich, 7-quilt, 8-make & 9-attach binding, 10-wrap gift, 11-give gift) #A-Finish baby gift quilt (2 mo old baby) 6-7-9-10-11 #B-Finish baby gift quilt (7 mo old baby) 4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11 #C-Finish baby gift quilt (10 mo old baby) 6-7-9-10-11 #D-My granddaughter's baby quilt 1...11, inclusive Incoming ordered product boxes & un-dealt-with returns 1. QVC-sandals, poorly designed, arrived last summer. Probably too late to return, but do something, get rid of sandals & box 2. JoAnn's Fabric, containers, some are smelly plastic, some were rigid and broke during shipping, February 2015 3. ordered fabric for DD's baby delivery hospital robe, take rest of fabric purchase out of box, deal with box, 4 weeks ago 4. Kohl's-Return/exchange 2 shirts that do not fit. Unpackage the 3 that do, and put in laundry. Decide if I'm returning or exhchanging the 2 pr men's sandals which I use for slippers and yardwork. They changed the makeup, these do not have the "core technology" in the heel which help me so much. At any rate, they are too big, need size down. There are many more procrastinations, but this list is enough for now.

Quilt D's pattern "floats" on a background of white. That is, the primary pattern does not go all the way to the edges. Tues 8/11, after work #D - 2 & 3 I had prepared some blocks which I hadn't noticed were on the outer edge, I had 3 sets of color blocks I had to remove (technical sewing term: "rip out"-means removing the stitching, not tearing/pulling the fabric), did that ripping. drew on paper, a tentative free-motion quilting design. Maybe I'll make a "doll quilt" and test the free-motion, see how it goes. I am new to free motion quilting. Usually, I just cross-hatch with the walking foot (using my DSM-Domestic Sewing Machine). (I would dearly love to have a quilting machine, oh, wouldn't I) Wed 8/12, before work #D 2 & 3, including replacing the ripped out blocks with white It's 35 blocks, 7 x 5 14 are all white, so no sewing 21 are pieced blocks, only one remaining to piece, it's already in rows, just need to sew the rows together 13 pieced blocks are together in rows The reason this quilt is in Anti-Procrastination: When DD told me she was pregnant, I bought fabric, brights, circus animals in hot-air balloons & the complementary fabrics to go with. I think this (link) is the fabric - but I didn't buy it from etsyBefore I started that quilt, DD sent me pinterest pix of the baby's room. o. dear. nothing like. So, I bought new fabric, neutrals, with yellow, because there were yellow stars in the pinterest pix. Then DD sends me pictures of the ACTUAL baby room. The neutrals are the same, but the main deco color is not yellow, it is PINK. Mind you, small town, america does not have a sewing/fabric store. I have to go to city, or online purchase. I kept the same pattern I had designed, but then, ordered pink fabric to switch it out for the yellow. The procrastination part, is me suspending planning/working on it due to annoyance. My DD tells me, quit buying fabric, mom, I just have to go thru it all when you die. I'm 58. Seriously. I have been known, a couple of times, at a fabric store, to fill a cart UP, overfull, take a picture of it and send it to her. mmmhmmm. That's mama bear. Then I put most of it back. But, when it's something SHE wants, it's "buy me exactly what I want." THAT, plus the fabric & color changes, thus the annoyance.

Wow! I can't imagine having that many quilting project going at once. I haven't sewn any since February or March and probably won't for another month or so. I just can't sew in my tiny room with no a/c in the summer. I am looking forward to getting back to the braid quilt top that I started last winter.

imamess teehee! Scatter brained/scatter worker me! Those other 3 baby quilts have been flimsies (quilt tops) for a while now. They're not really what I call "in process". I have a stack of not-in-the-list-sbove flimsies pending being quilted. I am trying to make myself practice free motion quilting on my domestic (home)sewing machine. The in process quilts are: *6-1/2" crumb *12-1/2" crumb *wonky log cabin *one of bonnie hunter's-a 64 patch (8x8) *Another bonnie hunter, double delight *DD's wedding gift, 2 Judith Martin blocks that together form s secondary pattern I'm pretty sure there's more... And in the REALLY old camp (over 5 yrs abandoned) *grad gift *get out of jail over 10 years *wedding gift AND TADA over 40 years the one I started at 18 & mom MADE me piece it by hand *

Between my father and my EX, I was taught that I was not allowed to finish anything.
It did not matter on what I started or where, I was ALWAYS told i should have done some else or done it a different way.
Thus, my procrastination issues.
For example, MONTHS ago, I emptied my closet to customize it. My clothes are all in cardboard wardrobe boxes.
So, I'm working in this thread.
Quilt to-do's My neighbor parks his car next to my garage. I asked him to move it Sunday.
I will hang a sheet on the side of the garage, and spray-baste my quilts for quilting tomorrow.
