I'm thinking about towel racks that would stay behind when we leave, and then hanging slim baskets from them to stand up bottles in. "Rail Storage" being all the rage in kitchens I bet I could find exactly the hanging bins/baskets that we need.

There are a lot of caddies on sale now advertised towards beginning college students. Those might work for some things. Clear shoeboxes could work in the closet for first aid and otc medicines. I have a wire shelf for shampoos and soap with two hooks for wash clothes hanging over my shower stem. There are also small caddies that have suction cups that might work in the shower for small things. You are a smart cookie and I know you will find solutions.

They have shower curtains with built in pockets. www.overstock.com/Bedding-Bath/Maytex-Mesh-Pockets-PEVA-Shower-Curtain/5612196/product.htmlI suppose that you could also attach hanging storage off the curtain rings on the outside of the shower curtain rod for something similar. We had to pay rent and mortgage for four months while we prepared the house for move in and packed up 21 years at a rental house. There was no other way to handle it. And, realistically - in a landlord's market - you almost have to snatch places up immediately while giving 30 days notice to the other one. Paying double is extremely common for practicality and for not losing your mind Glad your brother was all right with the gas leak - scary!! PC

Thanks gang! Yes! Yes! Yes to kitchen storage ideas in the bathroom! I love the showercurtain with pockets too! Some low for the boys stuff, and some high for things I don't want them getting into.
There are a lot of shelves in my shower, but only one very small medicine cabinet, I think first aid supplies will indeed end up in a clear tote/shoebox in the closet next to the bathroom.
New adventure: Husband's last two paychecks were each missing a whole week of pay, didn't pay electric bill at the old place in time, now there is no power there. We're camping in the nearly empty apartment. So much for my leisurely move where I get to unpack one load at a time and put it where it goes. So much for my quiet haven to finish my homework in uninterrupted. Moving is already stressful enough without this extra crap. I went back over last night with an oil lamp to find essentials. I'm sleeping in a recliner. I'm so tired.

Ouch Paper Grace. I hope the pay mixup is fixed up soon. DH might need to be proactive on that. Sending good vibes to help you deal with everything.

Move is going... ...going... Well... We've gotten almost all of the big things over here: beds, dressers, tables, shelving, etc... Gotten almost nothing else done. There are still dirty dishes over there. None of the boxes of stuff sorted yet. Only a week left. Damage to fix.

Yay, papergrace! You're doing great! Bring the dirty dishes with you. Just box 'em up. It's never easy and Never pretty but it will be worth it in the end.

I don't know why but I like the idea of living in a small, efficient house which makes no sense considering all my stuff. I think that is why though. I am tired of too much stuff. Don't think I could live in one of those tiny houses or live in a motor home though. Even with purging, I can't imagine where you put your stuff.

jeweltea I don;t think tiny house living is a matter of where you put your stuff. You just don't have stuff.

My house is 700 sq ft. It is wall to wall furniture and one closet. Ohblondie has it right, in one of the truly tiny houses that I look at from time to time on line, you don't have stuff, you can't have stuff and almost no furniture. I guess I could live in one if I had to, but I don't think I would like it very much if it were a long term thing. Even my hobbies require stuff or generate stuff. What in the world would you do with yourself in one of those teeny tiny houses?

Move is going better than I thought, but the emotional cost of having my family for helpers feels too high today. Yesterday I fielded unhelpful, belittling, or otherwise negative comments from both of my parents via phone--neither of them has seen the apartment in weeks. I was planning to leave them out of it entirely, but the helpers of the family I was donating an apartment's worth of furniture for fell through and so I called to see if they'd be willing to bring things to them. A simple 'no' would have sufficed. Instead they've decided that they 'have to' come 'rescue' me even though that isn't what I asked for at all. Letting go... letting go... Today: I've got a ton of furniture out in the yard with no one slated to pick it up, I've posted a curb alert, and we'll see if it vanishes in time or not. I have only a couple of things that need a truck to move them, but since my other helpers have vanished with lots of "I offered earlier, you're too late now..." type BS (as though I can just leave the kids home by themselves whenever someone 'feels like' moving stuff for me on short notice) I am accepting family helpers at great cost. It would be cheaper in a way to hire someone for the afternoon. All for keeping calm and that my folks somehow magically have learned to keep their negative comments to themselves appreciated. (It's not for nothing that we call them "The Bickersons")
