Sometimes, I just need to "ask a friend." It helps. A lot. I just opened a box full of ribbon. All of it is on spools. I cannot think of any current projects that I would need blue wired ribbon or red wired ribbon or silver wired ribbon. They range in width from 1 1/2" - 2" maybe smaller maybe bigger. I think I could donate these, right? I can't think of any projects to do with them. I don't think I should hold on to them for some imaginary project in the future that may or may not happen. But right now, I don't know. I really can't think. I start putting them in a bag, then think oh but what if I decide later... You all were so wonderful before, So, I thought, I know, I'll ask a friend. Keep for an imaginary project or donate?

If you keep it will you use it BY CHRISTMAS? Will you make bows and lavishly decorate gifts? Really? In actual time and space? or will you look at the pretty ribbon and "see" the lovely bows and put it back on a shelf and open the box again next year and think about the "lovely wreaths and bows" that you could potentially make?
If you are going to continue to "think" about it. DONATE the ribbon to someone who will actually use it. I know it's hard, because we "see" things as they could be, not as they are or will be for the foreseeable future. I am purging fabric and I am having the same issue. I keep seeing the potential in the fabric. I have packed up several boxes to go to assorted charities, but each piece is a decision and I don't like decisions.

Keep it one week, or what ever time limit you want. If you have not come up with a project to use it on by then, donate. Sometimes nursing homes need stuff like this for crafts residents do, or a church could use it for crafts, or just donate to goodwill.

Thanks! Yes, I will go ahead and donate it. I have had it for several years, perhaps even a decade. It has not been used yet. I highly doubt I will do anything with it. I have other projects I want to do that don't involve wired ribbon. It would be nice to actually have it be used, than sit in a box. Someone will be elated to find it. to Di and joyinvirginia for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

I keep a box of ribbon and other trim like that in the top of the hall closet for wrapping presents. I also used wire ribbon for inside home decoration at Christmas.
The ribbon I used last year was taken down and folded and put in zip lock bags and labeled where I used it because it was cut to that length. I bought several spools of gold wired ribbon and hung that from the center of the living room ceiling, sagging down outwards and pinned up to the moulding at the edges of the room. I hung a gold and silver fake mistletoe ball in the center. I did LOTS of particular stuff like that so I kept the ribbons for this years use.
If you wrap presents during the year for other occasions as elaborately as you do for Christmas the n I'd say keep it handy for that, but if you never use it then I'd throw it out.

Donate it! You don't need it.

I was into a number of arts and crafts years ago, and when I see that stuff, I think how much I would love to play with it. But it really isn't part of my life right now, and I don't know about the future. Maybe, maybe not.
My strategy is to keep the stuff together, organized, taking up as little space as possible. Get rid of things that are cheap or easily replaceable. Keep re-evaluating ... am I done with this forever, or do I still have a strong pull to get back to it? Is this stuff getting in the way of the life I'm living right now?
The phrase USE IT OR LOSE IT comes to mind.
