Word for the day is [glow=red,2,300]Smell[/glow] Anything particularly smelly that you need to get rid of? Does your fridge smell funky? Litter box smellin up the room? Does your toilet... um..... stink? Maybe you want to wear some lovely perfume? Or have a relaxing smelly bubble bath? Or just spray some nice air freshener around?

I won't have any trouble figuring this one out! I'll report back later in the day regarding the word "SMELL."

I don't have anything stinky to get rid of (I don't think, anyway!), so I'll cook something that smells good.

Normally when I get home from work I go right to bed (I work nights) but today I came home and took a shower! I had been so hot and sweaty at work I just had to. Then today I went out to the grocery store and bought fish. Does that count?

I don't know when you started this thread, but I have just come back from the dentist. :oMAJOR work again, $2000 today alone. Over the last 4 years, I will have spent approx. $20,000 on dental work. BECAUSE OF THE NEGLECT OF MY OLD DENTIST! I knew that my appointment today would be a killer. :'(SO...beforehand I went to a nearby drug mart where there was a special 'points promotion' on toiletries, perfumes, beauty products. I bought some nice perfume which I like: Emporio Armani 'diamonds'. The salesgirls cheered me up no end...gave me samples and free stuff (I'll share with my mother) I have to say that the SMELL from the drilling was pretty awful. There was decay UNDER the old fillings; plus a crack in a tooth. This is the sort of not-my-fault-situation that really STINKS. I visited my old dentist religiously twice a year..... Also I had a call from my credit card company: card compromised fraudulently. Another STINKY situation. >:(My card is now cancelled, and I will have to fill out papers etc and file a formal complaint etc. I will now go and spray some NICE perfume on me. ps: I luv these challenges

I don't even want to contemplate what was in that baggie from the back of the vegetable drawer. *shudder* Yes it was stinky. I am lighting a vanilla candle because my house smells like the pork chops I made for dinner. Yummy smell during dinner, now not so much.
I think I like this challenge.

We have been keeping our dirty linens hamper (3 compartment) in the master closet since we moved here. I have never liked this as a place to keep the dirty clothes because I cannot control the odor. I have tried all kinds of things:
Charcoal packets which I replace monthly. Spraying the inside of the hamper with Lysol (sometimes daily) Deordorizing/smell adding thingies (a variety of these items over the past 3 years) Doing laundry daily.
Still the room smells like dirty clothes.
Of course the shoes most likely contribute to the odor in the closet, also. So I spray Lysol into shoes periodically. At the end of a workday, I spray it into my athletic shoes if that's what I wore. Sometimes I spray all of Hubby's shoes, too. I don't notice the smelly shoe odor as much as I notice the dirty clothes odor.
We have plans to renovate the master bathroom, but that seems to be on hold indefinitely. Way too long to wait for a better solution.
I have come up with a plan, which I will implement first and explain later. I don't want my plan thwarted by naysaying. Hubby doesn't like the idea of moving the hamper to the master bathroom, which is where it was before we moved here. That is my long-term plan.
But the new interim plan (which may turn out to be long-term as long as the reno plans are on hold indefinitely) is to move it to the master bedroom on the wall near the master bathroom. I plan to purchase a standing screen behind whick to 'hide' the 3 compartment hamper. It can be used as a disrobing area before a shower, then 3 steps to the master bathroom and there's the shower. It'll make my walk to the laundry room a little longer than it is now, but it'll get the dirty clothes smell out of the closet.
I'd rather have the closet smell a bit more like clean clothes than dirty clothes, anyway.
I told Hubby, what I'd really like to do with the renovation of the master bathroom is to put a hole in the wall to create a 'shute' to the laundry room into which we could push our dirty clothes. They could fall into a hamper below the shute and that would control the odor issue, decrease the feared space issue (his fear, not mine - I think there is plenty of space in the master bathroom). And it would decrease my walking distance bringing clothes from the hamper to the washer. I think he is actually considering this as a good & viable option.
Anyway, no action taken yet, other than to begin the nagging in the back of my mind to start this project. I have to purchase a standing screen & move some stuff around in a few rooms in order to implement this plan. But I'm really liking this plan, so I think I'll be doing it soon.

Those all sound like good ideas to me, eagle!
I know EXACTLY what you mean about having to put reno plans on hold, too.

- I was born with almost no sense of smell, so this challenge is difficult for me.
However, I am aware that some things smell good -- or bad -- to everyone except me.
Today I will phone the lady that I hire to scoop the dog poop out of my yard and make an appointment for her to come. It's been a while, so I would imagine it smells bad out there.
I bought some crystal gel type things that are in jars -- you open the jar and the crystals absorb odors from a room. I'm going to set the jars out (in places where my pets won't be able to reach/eat them). It should help remove any odors from my home that I am unaware of.
I just brewed a fresh batch of Bolivian free trade organic coffee. Coffee is one of the few things I can smell. It's lovely.

just to let y'all know: I finally took courage in hand and bought a Lampe Bergere for the house. It is a special catalytic burner that purifies the air; the lovely scent is a by-product of the process. I am afraid of candles, fires, smoke, matches, oil etc. I have looked at these at least twice in stores near here; plus I read up on the web. On Sunday, I went to a fund-raising event at a fancy mall, open after hours. Many of the shops had special promotions for the guests. I bought a nice lampe with rose-scented oil, on sale. Not too pricey, and MUCH CHEAPER than the same items on-line. Yesterday and today, I figured out how to use this item. Today I kept it going for about 20 minutes while I was dusting/deep cleaning our lower hall (plaster dust etc etc). The scent was extremely soothing to me. www.mulberryhall.co.uk/Item/LampeBerger/ClassicalSpiritCollection/ButinagePeche.aspx?id=32798&fr=wpg&fid=91This is the lampe I bought (pink) with rose oil. thanks to all who have encouraged me. Yesterday I was ILL with pain; level 8 (out of 10). I was able to be a bit productive today thanks to this smell of roses throughout my house.

Ah, Script. So sorry to hear that you are still having so much pain and also, for the dental nightmare... In my eating area... I stepped on something and heard a faint hiss & then the smell of spray paint. Yep, stepped on a can at just the right spot... There were 2 cans of spray paint that my DH had bought & said belonged to the Boy Scout troop. I tried returning them months ago, but no response about them. So, I had to get rid of that smell, so put that bag with the spray paint cans into another bag & put it with the giveaway stuff. I'm not tellin' DH.... CD
